Bin Laden Reiterates Al Qaeda Doctrine Tying Victory in Iraq to Victory Over Israel
In my opinion, the most important point in the second tape in two days by Osama Bin Laden is his reiteration of long-held Al Qaeda doctrine that victory in Iraq is critical to the long-term success of the jihad throughout the Middle East, ending in victory over and the destruction of the State of Israel. Bin Laden issues a renewed call for jihadists to win in Iraq in order to support the Palestinian cause: "The nearest Jihad (holy war) battlefield to support our people in Palestine is the battlefield...(read more)

The latest offering from Naomi Klein, The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism, promises to be a good read. From Publishers Weekly:The neo-liberal economic policies—privatization, free trade, slashed social spending—that the Chicago School and the economist Milton Friedman have foisted on the world are catastrophic in two senses, argues this vigorous polemic. Because their results are disastrous—depressions, mass poverty, private corporations looting public wealth, by the author's accounting—their means must be cataclysmic, dependent on political upheavals and natural disasters as coercive pretexts for free-market reforms the public would normally reject. Journalist Klein (No Logo) chronicles decades of such disasters, including the Chicago School makeovers launched by South American coups; the corrupt sale of Russia's state economy to oligarchs following the collapse of the Soviet Union; the privatization of New Orleans's public schools after Katrina; and the se

      The Importance of Sound Doctrine
More and more God has been showing me the importance of sound biblical doctrine; Christian teaching free from any mixture of error or worldly influence and interpretation. Titus 1:9He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.Within the church today there is a lack of teaching about the importance of sound doctrine. In fact, in many instances, doctrine has become a thing to try to avoid. I have heard many statements in the past few years that attest to this.Comments such as:I don't send my children to church to learn doctrine, I send them to learn the Bible. We don't need to get bogged down with boring stuff like doctrine, all we need is Jesus. Those who study and get caught up in doctrine are caught up in head knowledge rather than heart knowledge. It doesn't matter if we disagree on doctrine, we just need to get people saved.Without sound biblical doctrine we are at risk of

The Drama of Doctrine and a Life Infused with Urgency
In the beginning, an empty space. A word breaks the silence, bespeaks a universe; the world dawns. More words; nondescript space acquires shape, becomes a place for forms emerging from the dust. The stage is set. Action! To be or not to be is not the question, nor our choice. We are "thrown into existence" . . . We simply find ourselves in a world. We are here, onstage, with many others. . . . We have mapped the galaxy, but we are still trying to get our bearings. We have mapped the human genome, but we are still trying to determine what we are. We need guidance as we seek to play our parts, prompting as we grope for our next lines. Thus begins, The Drama of Doctrine. In a recent interview, Vanhoozer defends his use of the drama metaphor in his theology:The driving force of Christian theology is the God of the gospel. The subject matter of theology is intrinsically dramatic: God in his missionary movements (viz., Son and Spirit). It's a matter of God saying and God doing the good for the

Exposing the thinking, the money trail and the puppet strings behind the world-changing crises and wars of the last four decades, The Shock Doctrine is the gripping story of how America’s “free market” policies have come to dominate the world-- through the exploitation of disaster-shocked people and countries. At the most chaotic juncture in Iraq’s civil war, a new law is unveiled that would allow Shell and BP to claim the country’s vast oil reserves…. Immediately following September 11, the Bush Administration quietly out-sources the running of the “War on Terror” to Halliburton and Blackwater…. The Fairness Doctrine: Democrat’s Attack on the Freedom of the Press
Durbin said the government has the right to regulate talk radio, because the airwaves belong to the American people.   Does that statement make any sense to you? The airways belong to the people, so we must regulate it? If the airways belong to the people, shouldn’t the government stay away? I think so, but I am not smart enough to make my own decisions, so the government will tell me what to listen to.   The free market has determined that talk radio should be dominated by conservative talk. Conservative talk is what makes money, so conservative talk is what many stations offer. There is NPR and Air America trying to promote liberal talk, but liberal talk has not been successful so now the Democrats want to force it on the American people. The liberals already own all the other outlets of the media, but it is noy good enough for them, they need to conquer talk radio also. They want to eliminate opposing views instead of debating them. Senate Democrats Support the Fairness Doctrine by Blocking a Crucial Amendment
In an act of pure arrogance and stupidity, Senate Democrats on Friday blocked an amendment that would have prevented the return of the Fairness Doctrine, a federal rule that gives the government, not only the ability to license and regulate the public airways, but allows government control of political content as well. South Dakota Sen. John Thune, Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman and other Republicans have been attempting to mirror the actions of Mike Pence (R-IN). Pence effectively thwarted the reimplementation of the Fairness Doctrine in the House of Representatives. We should all be proud to have politicians working for the American people as diligently at him. Sadly, however, when Coleman (R-Minn.), tried to bring up his amendment Friday to a defense authorization bill, Democrat Senator Carl Levin objected. More frightening, Senator Levin is not the only communist who supports the Fairness Doctrine. For example, Senator John Kerry, Senator Dick Durbin, and Dianne Feinstein supp

Friday, July 06, 2007 In a recent fly-around tour across Missouri, NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. SB 62, Missouri's "Castle Doctrine" bill, removes the "duty to retreat" for victims of criminal attack; while SB 225, the "Hunting Heritage Protection Areas Act," preserves important wildlife habitat and hunting opportunities for future Missouri generations. "Missouri now joins a group of 18 other 'Castle Doctrine' states, guaranteeing victims' right to protect themselves against a criminal attack," said Cox. The Unfairness Doctrine
We've heard a lot of rumbling this week about bringing back the Fairness Doctrine and I'd like to take some time to dicuss it.First of all, the original intent of these rulings was to ensure that both sides of any controversial issue be represented in the media...in 1949.  When the policy went into place, we didn't exactly have the massive amount of media coverage that we have today. This week, members of Congress began rumbling about the need for a reinstating of the Doctrine.  What sense does this make?  The reasoning in my eyes is simple, but on quite a few different levels.  We'll run these down one step at a time. The past week, the whole country has been in an uprise over the proposed Amnesty Bill that was on the Senate floor.  Now of course, conservative talk radio was up in arms over the whole.  And frankly, the whole think stunk to high heaven, but it's over and done with so we'll leave that one be.  At any rate, every major conservative host was urging pe

The “Fairness Doctrine” Temporarily Thwarted by Mike Pence, Indiana Representative
In an effort to combat reimplementation of the archaic “Fairness Doctrine,” Congressman Mike Pence, together with Congressman Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and RSC Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) introduced an amendment to the Financial Services Appropriations Bill (H.R. 2829) yesterday. Thankfully the Amendment passed 309-115. The next question is, “Who are the 115 Stalinists?” Here is what Mike Pence’s Amendment will do: It will prohibit funds in the Bill from being used by the Federal Communications Commission to impose the Fairness Doctrine on broadcasters. This is no small feat. It is a monumental victory for free speech and Pence should be commended for protecting the 1st Amendment. Moreover, the fear of the “Fairness Doctrine” is certainly warranted. It is one of the most dangerous laws ever conceived over the last hundred years. It gives the government, not only the ability to license and regulate the public airways, but it would allow government control of politica

What is the Purpose of your Corporation? – A Brief Look at the Doctrine of Ultra Vires
Many states have created a standardized document for forming a legal entity. These standardized forms were created partly to prevent lawyers from drafting and submitting extremely long incorporation documents and partly as a way to create ease of use for the general public. Most standardized forms contain a section for the name of the entity, the name of the resident agent, the name of the officers and/or directors, and a section for the corporate purpose. We are going to take a closer look at the “purpose” section of an entity formation document. Today, lawyers generally use broad language such as, “any lawful purpose” in the purpose section of these documents. However, such was not the case many years ago. Incorporation documents used to be drafted with a very specific corporate purpose. As such, the doctrine of ultra vires was created by the courts. The doctrine of ultra vires was the cause of much litigation and judicial interpretation. The dictionary definition of

Note this is in a city that is deeply blue. There's a new push on by the Democrats to re-institute the Fairness Doctrine , a regulation that would require stations to air equal content from both left and right. Talk radio comments by Lott and Feinstein: will Fairness Doctrine be revived?
What will our leaders in Washington think of next? We all know they’re up there in Washington, alternating between adrenalin and Zen, zooming around to meetings and trying to think of good things to do for all U.S. citizens. One of those good things relates to an issue many politicians get a little squeamish over. Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-Calif.) appeared on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace. And so did Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.). I read the transcript of the two senators’ remarks at the Fox News Web site. Lott had already said, earlier this week, “Talk radio is running America.” He followed that statement with, “We have to deal with that problem.” Wallace quizzed Lott about those statements. Lott dodged the quiz. He explained he’d been on a radio program and tried to explain the proposed immigration bill. It’s a complicated bill. “A lot of moving parts.” And it’s hard to get that across on talk radio—“It’s not that they’re maliciously trying to, you

The Fairness Doctrine Isn't Fair Enough
The Fairness Doctrine is receiving new life these days even from the likes of a Trent Lott who recently said that Talk Radio needs to be looked into. The Fairness Doctrine is a political doctrine with the usual emotional name that implies something in the realm of Talk Radio is not fair. Emotion does not belong in the debate but makes its way into it when one needs to fight logic. Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity and others are railing against the “doctrine” as a tool to silence debate and the free marketplace, which it is when one stops to think about it and one does not have to stop and think about it long to come to that conclusion. Radio stations are in the business for money and it falls that if something doesn’t make money through ad revenue that something won’t remain on the air long. Yesterday Hannity made remarks about being called a “shill for the Republican party,” and pointed out that when he doesn’t agree or think something is bad for Conservatism he speak

Rush Limbaugh explains it this way: Bring it on! Pelosi and the Democrats are resurrecting The Fairness Doctrine to shut up Rush. The left saw their liberal radio network go down in flames, but they won't accept that they cannot compete in the marketplace of ideas. No, they're going to require local radio stations to "balance" Rush's commentary, knowing it will create hassles so thick that radio stations will drop the show. Revival. False Christian Doctrine Has Got To Go
In the coming revival, we are not only going to see signs and wonders but I believe we will also see a revival of doctrine. All kinds false christian teaching is presently floating around out there. I believe Jesus is abruptly bringing it all to an end. Just in case you thought Jesus isn't concerned with this you may want to consider some of the discussions he had with the Pharisees when he said " you whitewashed tombstones" or " you brood of vipers" when they tried to promote their own religion and put words in God's mouth.Ever wonder why we have all these different denominations that have different beliefs about the scripture. It's because we have drifted away from the teacher. THE HOLY SPIRIT! The Holy Spirit always backs up Jesus and everything he did. There aren't 52 different ways to interpret any given scripture there is only one. God's interpretation. After all there is one God, one baptism, one saviour and one divine truth. The Holy Spirit is not confused about what the

The End Of The Bush Doctrine
George W. Bush's bright idea of staging preemptive wars may see it's endSenator Jim Webb (D-Virginia) has introduced a bill that would bar the President from taking military action against Iran without Congressional approval. Basically the bill explains that the President can only stage a war against Iran (or any other country) with a declaration of war from Congress...kinda like what it says in Article 1, Section 8, Clause 11 of the United States Constitution. It's a complete repudiation of the Bush Doctrine, which advocates preemptive wars (or as I call it, Wars of Paranoia)No more "police action" crap. The President has the power to regulate a war as Commander-in-Chief, but only after Congress gives him the authority to do it, only after Congress does their Constitutionally mandated function of declaring war.The chances of this passing are good, but the chances of it becoming law are not. The Republicans will argue it gives Iran reason to agitate the United States, knowing the Pr

How does one defend the fairness doctrine?
I've heard it proposed and my policy is to take every argument seriously, but how does one defend this? Here's what I've come up with so far: 1. People who listen to AM radio but have never attended college, read a newspaper, or watched television might get the impression that everybody's conservative. 2. ummm....I don't know. I'm all tapped out. Can anybody help? http://www.gameaccount.com/img/mail/GAinsider25062004/fairness-guaranteed.gif

      "Fairness Doctrine"
The Fairness Doctrine is not fair at all. It is only a way to get Liberal ideas on the airwaves, because they ca not hack it themselves. This in no way will be fair for anybody. It will only stiffle...

McCain Doctrine: Draw Play on 4th and Long
[Cross-posted at The Right’s Field] Arizona Senator John McCain is going balls to the wall on Iraq. In a speech to, of all places, neocon central, the American Enterprise Institute, Senator McCain called for a “substantial and sustained” escalation of U.S. forces in Iraq. Joined by Independent Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman, McCain “called for a minimum of six additional Army brigades — roughly 25,000 soldiers — to be sent to Iraq, especially translators, Special Forces and civil affairs officers,” reported MSNBC’s Tom Curry. McCain said, "The worst of all worlds would be a small, short surge of US forces. We've tried small surges in the past and they've been ineffective" CBS recently reported that the U.S. military says only 9,000 forces are available for a surge, with 10,000 more “on alert in Kuwait and the U.S.” The “McCain Doctrine,” as former Democratic Senator John Edwards recently labeled it, is

(debate) First withdraw from... the Bush doctrine
(debate on "our way out of Iraq")No sane decision can be made before setting the house in order (the house beyond the House, that is - congrats for the Elections !). I suggest 3 steps :First, America must clearly formulate some apologies to the Iraqi people and the international community for forgetting its own values. America will be respected again when America will be respectful again.Second, quickly formulate the positions from all key players through a commission with a mandate to meet with all parties willing to talk (including Iranians). Iraqis should be open to new faces and ending the black / white talk should help hitting common ground / common sense. From America's point of view, that could also be a way of putting a friendly pressure : the US won't be the black sheep anymore, the scapegoat responsible for all trouble.Once America repositions itself as a neutral force instead of an invasion / occupation force, the next steps will appear much easier. But the US cannot leave

Sound Doctrine & Orthodox Christians - Back to Basics...
THERE IS, I BELIEVE, A BASIC INGREDIENT which is largely lacking in Christianity today, and the lack of it is the source of most of our problems... It is my absolute conviction that most of us miss this most obvious and most repeated message, even while laying great emphasis on "sound doctrine." Well, I would like to ask you, "What is sound doctrine?" We have long discussions on the Second Coming, on the Atoning Work of Christ, on the Church, the Holy Spirit, etc., etc. But what about love and humility and brokenness? These usually go into a separate category, but I want to tell you that if your doctrine does not include love and humility and brokenness, then your doctrine is not sound. There are thousands, even millions, of people who claim to be "orthodox Christians" because they cling to a certain set of beliefs in accord with the Bible. They are aware that they do not practice much humility, but they do not think that makes them any les

Red blogules to hypocrisy - what Bush doctrine ?
North Korea back to the 6 party talks ? Thank the very official US-NK meeting, a total renouncement to the Bush dogma : we don't talk to dictators (er... make that "this kind of dictators").Iran and Irak restoring diplomatic links ? Thank the US-backed Iraqi government for initiating a meeting the US wouldn't want to be known as the actual initiator.$500M for Iraq from the World Bank ? Thank the same US-backed Iraqi government for asking a favor which had been denied to the country since 1973. Thank also Paul Wolfowitz for making a priority of what we expected from him (outsourcing the US deficit created by the Iraqi quagmire) instead of what he said he would do (fighting against poverty in Africa). The World is better when the US don't follow the Bush doctrine . And the World would definitely be even a better place if the US didn't follow it in the first place.

Sign the petition - keep religious doctrine out of school
The Brights have organized an online petition with the following wording:We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to ban within government-funded schools the promotion or practice of any particular faith or religion.Faith-based or sect schools encourage and propagate divisions within our society.Schools should be places where our children are taught to think about the world around them and come to their own conclusions. In short, they should be taught, not only about the profusion of religions and faiths but also about how moral and socially responsible lives can be led without them; rather than, at a time before they have sufficiently developed critical faculties, being indoctrinated.I would urge you to sign this petition (only available to UK citizens). There is nothing wrong with the presentation of religious information, and teaching about the cultural significance of religions. However, having one particular stance presented as irrefutable, established fact in the sort of au

the problems with the standard evangelical doctrine of "sin."
from my understanding the evangelical doctrine of sin is:all sin leads to deathit is our nature to sinwe will continue to sin no matter whatwe can not stop our sin nature.so, no matter what we sin - and we keep sinning according to the evangelical doctrine - but, what do we do with things like this:1 john 5:16-17 "If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that does not lead to death, he should pray and God will give him life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that he should pray about that. All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death."1 john 1:6-7 "If we claim that we experience a shared life with him and continue to stumble around in the dark, we're obviously lying through our teethÂ?we're not living what we claim. But if we walk in the light, God himself being the light, we also experience a shared life with one another, as the sacrificed blood of Jesus, God's Son, purges all our sin."1 joh

Maggi Dawn on love "vs." doctrine
Great stuff from Maggi: our doctrine is love. If you feel that doctrine compells you to violate Jesus' new commandment, then you need to wonder if your doctrine is in error. Love - especially for sisters and brothers in Christ - is as central a Christian doctrine as just about anything else you might name: the trinity, the incarnation, the atonement - heck, the existence of God, since God is love. If you think the most effective way to express love for your brother or sister is to spew venom in his or her direction, then brother, you have issues. If you admit that your venom-spewing betrays a lack of love for the person you're aiming at, then you've got doctrinal issues. Or so it seems to me.Thanks, Maggi!
