Recently my six-year-old daughter began playing that wonderful childhood game of ringing on doorbells and running away before the person answers the door. Some of you may know this game as “Ding Dong Ditch.” To our knowledge, she has only done this to our house and my parents’ house. So obviously, before this game extended outside the [...]

For those of you who really don’t want McCain on the ticket, there’s one way to replace the Arizona Senator as our Republican nominee. From The Palestinian Information Center : Palestinian leaders and Christian peace activists as well as representatives of human rights organizations operating in the occupied Palestinian territories on Thursday made an impassioned appeal to "all men and women of conscience all over the world" to help stop Israeli army plans to close down and take over several orphanages and boarding schools sheltering thousands of orphans and impoverished students. Many of the orphans' parents had been killed by the Israeli army and paramilitary Jewish terrorists, also known as "settlers." The appeal was made during a press conference at the main Girl Orphanage in downtown Hebron. The Israeli army has repeatedly raided the orphanages, boarding schools and affiliated institutions, vandalizing pr
"By contrast, many of today's laptops are a step backward. Sure, they can play some video games, surf the Web and handle modern e-mail and calendar software. But they're big, they're heavy and they're easy to break. Rather than making their users more mobile, some laptops are merely weighing them down--and causing traffic jams in airport security. How to Ditch Dedicated GTD Apps [Getting Things Done] Mac user Dennis Best says that using David Allen's Getting Things Done productivity system on your Mac doesn't mean you need to find the ultimate GTD application—that the tools you already have in Mail.app, iCal and Finder get the job done fine. After trying out shiny GTD-specific applications (like Things, which dazzled us too), he's settled on using those built-in tools instead. I'm with Dennis on this—instead of using a special GTD app, I stick to a calendar, email inbox, and a few text files to stay organized. Not to be all finger-waggy, but ultimately it's up to you, not your software, to work the system. Getting things done (simply) in Leopard [Dennis Best via MicroPersuasion] Link - Gina Tr
Tomorrow, 43 of John McCain’s closest friends will be holding a high-dollar fundraiser at the Willard Hotel in Washington, DC - just steps from the White House. Of those 43 organizers, 35 are well-connected DC lobbyists.
John McCain’s lobbyists connections are well documented and people should be concerned. It is doubtful these Washington insiders are raising money for McCain for their health. After they help put McCain into the White House with their millions of dollars, they will come calling for executive favors.
The Public Campaign Action Fund is going to deliver a petition to John McCain tomorrow night at his lobbyist fundraiser asking him to make good on his public financing pledge:

This isn't a rant so much as it is an observation.
My husband, Mark, is a truck driver and ever since he got a new route which would enable him to be home every day, we both thought it would be nice to get healthy TOGETHER. (his idea btw) That means eat the same foods and do the same (or nearly the same) types of workouts. Now, he's not overweight at all. He's just needs to tone his tummy a little because he says it really bothers him and he wants to lose it. Fine. (he's been saying this for the past 3 years btw)
At first it was fine - when it was time to exercise, he was on board. (day 1 for him)
Then he would only do SOME of the exercises, claiming that they didn't do anything for him. But after observing him, it turns out he's not doing them properly and taking the easy way out. Afte

UPDATE: earlier than expected, the government have opted to split Cheshire into two administrative areas of governance. Cheshire County Councillors are appalled (see here). More to follow... .We've covered the on-off saga of whether Cheshire will change to a single unitary, two unitary or remain/emerge as an improved two-tier council a few times over recent months. I'm not convinced that too many people actually care, but the issue remains fascinating to some. On the back the government deferring their decision on December 5th 2007, CNBC Chief Executive Paul Ancell has written to Rt Hon John Healey MP hoping to influence the outcome. .Basically, with a decision delayed, Paul Ancell suggests that now is perhaps the time for those in power to fully appreciate the benefits of two-tier working. Mr Ancell believes that two-tier will, amongst other things: deliver savings, be in line with a broad cross section of support, be relatively risk-free in terms of ongoing challenges to the decisi
In sum, at this juncture probably little more precision in theory is required other than to urge biblical scholars to be more systematic, and systematic theologians to be more biblical, and to get on with the task. The ultimate test of the success of co-operation between the two fields lies in the degree to which the biblical text and its subject matter are illumined. Neither Biblical Theology nor [Systematic] theology is an end in itself, but rather they remain useful tools by which to enable a fresh access to the living voice of God in sacred Scripture.Brevard Childs, Biblical Theology: A Proposal, p. 74.I hope to be able to do my part in "getting on" with this task.
Due to China’s fuel crisis a crematorium was dumping half-burned corpses in a nearby ditch in order to save on diesel fuel costs, according to a Hong Kong newspaper on Friday. The residents in Hengyang County noticed a bad smell coming from the crematorium and had people go and investigate.
The South China Morning Post said that what they found was “crematorium workers putting half-burnt human remains and organs in plastic bags and throwing them into a nearby ditch.” One of the village representatives, Xiao Gaoyi, said, “As the price of diesel rose, we saw more and more bags thrown out from the crematorium.”
The reason is because China is suffering its worst fuel crisis in four years, resulting in about a 10% price increase in domestic gasoline and diesel fuel. In many parts of China the fuel was rationed and resulted in long queues at some petrol stations.
I am not sure what, if any, actions have been taken towards the crematorium. Some of the vil

I am cutting down one of my money maker used on Wayne Liew Dot Com again. This time, it will be the turn for inline contextual advertising platform, Kontera, which is also known as ContentLink by some.
Some readers of mine might have noticed that I have dumped local ad network, Advertlets because of some common reasons which most of the people out there have voiced out. This time round will be Kontera. I guess Kontera has violated my guide, 5 Considerations Before Placing An Ad Panel but specific reasons which helped me in making this decision are as follows.
Irrelevant ads
I am starting to find Kontera ads becoming more and more irrelevant. Although they boast contextual ad display, I am starting to find that their technology highlights my keyword but giving me the wrong ads, which most of them are by consumer goods sellers such as Shopping.com. “Windows Live Messenger” has been highlighted but the ads popping out clearly showing that it will bring me to a site selling

Dating is hard and establishing a basis for a lasting relationship is no easy feat. There are so many things to look at and many hurdles to overcome. Just when you think you may have landed a prince, you wake up and realize you have kissed a frog. YUCK!!!Hard decisions are a part of life. Here are 7 more in my list of behaviors and attitudes you should never ever tolerate in any man. You know in your heart you should drop him. There is always that nagging sense of doubt. With this list that follows my previous seven signs, again I am going to reference a song that covers the sentiments of dealing with and breaking off a relationship with a loser. Paul Simon sang it best in his hit song from the mid 1970 era called 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover. If the guy you are involved does any of this, it is time to re-evaluate fast!1. Does he listen to you? Does your opinion matter? Does he respect what you think? If not, let the relationship go.2. Is he one to humiliate you? Does he think it is funn
Hilary and her boyfriend had dinner in NYC on Tuesday night. Hilary looks adorable as always but unfortunately I can’t say the same about her boyfriend. Hilary must have some very strange taste in men if she finds this guy attractive. He looks top heavy to me and for godsakes, he is wearing a cardigan.
It was just a couple of days ago I posted about a bonehead statement by Barack Obama where he referred to the President of Canada. And now he has already stepped in it again by saying that our military is doing nothing in Afghanistan but air raids on villages and killing innocent civilians. Maybe he has been taking lessons from John Kerry. This is the sort of stupid off the cuff comment you would hear from some minor staffer, not the candidate themself. At this rate, I doubt he will even swing an invite from the Clinton camp for the VP slot. ~RJH NRO Campaign Spot article link Mark It: Barack Obama's Campaign Steered Into the Ditch TodayWhen I first saw the comment on Instapundit, I thought it was an Obama aide who made an astoundingly boneheaded assessement of U.S. efforts in Afghanistan. But no, it turns out it was the candidate himself: Asked whether he would move U.S. troops out of Iraq to better fight terrorism elsewhere, he brought up Afghanistan and said, "We've got
Still using Internet Explorer to browse the web? You’re missing out! If you have your own blog, you read other blogs, you’re a traveler, or any combination of the three, you should be using Firefox. Here are twelve great reasons why:
The Resizable Textarea plugin makes blogger’s and blog reader’s lives a hell of a lot easier. Once you’ve installed this, you’ll wonder how you ever browsed and blogged the web without it! You know how you can grab and resize application windows on your Windows desktop? This nifty plug-in allows you to do the same thing with text boxes in your browser window. Now, when you’re typing a new blog post or commenting on someone else’s blog, you don’t have to preview your own words four text lines at a time.
Automatic, real-time spell-checking. I type pretty quickly and sometimes (okay, most of the time) that means making mistakes. Instead of looking like a boob by leaving a trail of misspelled com

But, for those within walking distance of town, why not leave the car at home today, enjoy the gorgeous weather, save the planet and improve you health? Humans weren’t meant for cubicles…they were meant for adventure.
You know who you are, sitting there in your cubicle with one eye on the “to do” pile and the other on Kayak.com. The desk is littered with trinkets from exotic locations and your computer wallpaper is a photo of your favorite beach or monument.
When a co-worker returns from vacation, you’re the first to start the Q&A session. Sound familiar? You may be suffering from Travel Separation Anxiety.
Being chained to a desk is tough when you want to trade the suit for a suitcase. It seems everyone is out traversing the globe while you languish in corporate prison.
But whether it’s financial or personal commitments that keep you grounded, your inner adventurer doesn’t have to become a casualty of the cube. Keep the dream alive by planning your E.S.C.A.P.E.

There are all kinds of fluffy criteria to apply to picking a trainer. I will not be addressing those here. There are a lot of “nice,” “fun,” and “likable” personal trainers out there who can not train. In fact, many of the most likable celebrity trainers are, in my opinion not, the greatest trainers for actually affecting change in their clients. As a client, you must realize that you are purchasing a GOOD, not a SERVICE. The “good” you are purchasing is your results and it just doesn’t really matter if the guy or gal you hire is the nicest person on earth if they never deliver the goods. So, here is my advice for choosing a trainer who will make a difference in your health and in your life:1) Of course, they must be certified.Certifications are becoming easier to obtain than a driver’s license so you have to be careful. My personal favorites are ACSM, NASM,NSCA, ACE. Of course, for the best of the best (and yes, I am completely biased here, CHEK). A CHEK practition
Ok guys, we have noticed that many of you are still using Internet Explorer 6. Our site will function in IE 6, but it does not look its best nor do the majority of sites out there. So please do yourself a favor and either get the new Internet Explorer 7 or use our affiliate link below (the Firefox Icon) to download Firefox. If you have not heard of Firefox it is (in my opinion) the best browser out there for a plethora of reasons, but mainly because of its versatility and ability to render pages so beautifully. Not to mention that it is completely FREE.
Firefox also offers a ton of add ons for your browser, I am currently able to go down to the status bar and completely control itunes, see how many of you Techies are on Teching Me Out, the current Page Rank and Alexa rank, my email in box, and the current weather just to name a few. The Florida House and Senate are moving fast to remove gifted education funding from high schools. Votes are slated for this week. So the Florida Gifted Network is making one last stab at preserving the funding. They've sent out another alert asking supporters to educate lawmakers on talking points, like how there will not be double dipping on the system. To read their report, click here. The Senate vote on SB 1046 is schedule for Wednesday. The House is taking amendments on HB 7081 until 5 p.m. today.
7:15 p.m. UPDATE: The Florida Gifted Network is reporting that amendments to these bills are floating that might divide the once identical approaches of the Senate and House. The group's leaders are supporting anything that would postpone action. They plan to send out more alerts as they gather more information.
A committee brought together to consider whether Pasco County's teachers dress appropriately says they do. After six months of research and three meetings, the committee recommended today that the district doesn't need to boost the dress code for employees, as superintendent Heather Fiorentino suggested last summer. It was another thing all together when it comes to piercings, though. Teachers need to be role models, committee members said, and visible piercings - including tongue studs - don't always set a good example. So the committee is proposing restrictions on piercings (except for earrings) and maybe even tattoos. Its suggestions will go to the School Board on Tuesday.

The Des Moines Register reported recently that Loras Schlute and Ed Failor were stepping down as advisers to New York Republican Governor George Pataki's 21st Century Freedom PAC over Pataki's support for abortion rights. Schulte is described as a "social conservative activist" and Failor is a board member of Iowa Right to Life. "I've never made any secret of my intense pro-life views," said Schulte (intensely, we presume). "In order to be true to myself, where I stood and what I believed, it was time to step away."
To the best of my knowledge, Pataki has never made any secret of his pro-choice views - although their intensity may be subject to further scrutiny. This doesn't sound to me like it was a relationship that was likely to work in the first place.

When I bought my Janome in Feb. they offered an orientation. Having already sewn for several years, I didn't think I would learn much, (sounds arrogant, but we get set in our ways) Boy was I wrong. There are some pretty cool accessories and tools available now! One of the most awesome tools I invested in, was the "ditch foot". This neat thing's got a little blade-like guide in front, that you set in the ditch. It separates the joined fabrics on a quilt top, and then stitches right behind, as you go. This makes for a very accurate stitch line right in the ditch, no more going over the top of one edge. The only problem is...it's not a walking foot, which I'm used to guiding the layers along. I can adjust my foot pressure, which helps not slide things, but I'm a bit worried about tryi
