I am of the fairly conventional view that the ultimate goal of climate policy should be a global carbon price that is discovered through cap and trade. Obviously we can’t get there in one go, so the question is do we approach it region by region or sector by sector?
Take the current argument between the [...]

I am at last headed for Bengal. North Bengal, where I was born. Where I spent my growing up years. In Delhi, the plane sits on the runway, delaying our departure for almost an hour. Who cares about the North East? Backward, dilapidated, a laggard in the economic growth seizing the whole [...]

I travel up north, to Delhi. Crowded city bursting at its seams. An excess of traffic and humans jostling for space in roads frequently interrupted with construction work. New roads, wider roads, flyovers, hotels. To accommodate more and more. People, motors, business. To claim more and more. Open spaces, green vistas to gray. [...]
Last night I was hanging out with Rich from Kill Ugly Radio and Daniel Flessas during Daniel's KBOO radio show, "The Outside World", when I came to the realization that I need to start doing podcasts on Eclectic Grooves. Around three a.m., I dragged myself home in that state somewhere between the realm of awareness and sleep. When I arrived at the apartment, I compiled this mix that I am featuring today. This mix features a wide variety of styles that seem to coalesce into a psychedelic space-rock contingent. Even though this is not a podcast, I plan on featuring podcasts here in the near future. I hope you enjoy the mix, and would love to hear what you guys think. Night Trippers From Distant Galaxies1) D. Charles Speer & the Helix- Sit Right There- 4:182) Boredoms- Relerer- 7:093) Su
More than four years later. Closer to five than four. The very words I use to describe the gap after which I return to India, for a vacation.
It is a long journey, from where I reside, nestled in the temperate forests of the Pacific Northwest of America, to the subcontinent. How many thousand miles? I [...]
The whistle blew! The first, the second and the third, slowly the train started moving on and everything seemed rushing back. She was walking slowly towards her door. A big smile carved out of his lips. She seemed darker than her actual complexion, her mascara and kohl had smudged and she appeared as a dark, petite figure. All of a sudden, he felt glorious. She felt cheated and lost. To him it seemed like his brain was emptied of all thoughts, the blood rushing in his veins had evaporated like water and not a drop was left, and his heart had stopped the regular lullaby of lub-dub. She walked like a directionless figure, gripped by her thoughts, chained by love, her heart squeaking for care and her tired body screaming for rest. For many others, this emptying feeling might have roused
I’m not usually one to tear up at every chick flick that someone tricks me into watching, so I never really expected I’d ever catch myself crying to an anime, but this immensely beautiful piece of modern art proved me wrong. The power of the loneliness I felt in the characters was so strong that I actually felt sad enough to cry for them. This short movie that started Makoto Shinkai’s prospering anime career is well deserving of my praise. I was seriously awestruck after watching this. I had a few episodes of other shows after this in my media player playlist, but after this ended I had to pause for a few minutes just to pull myself back to reality from the intense emotions it invoked.
Voices Of A Distant Star is a story of a teenage couple, separated by the vast expanse of outer space with only emails sent from a cellphone to tie the two together. As the girl is dragged light year upon light year further from Earth the messages take longer and longer to transmit unt

~by numbsainT. Interesting... fascinating... very unusual... I think you had better come look at this, Moron"M. What is it now, Tampax?T. No, not now, 4000 years in the past. I'm not sure exactly but it appears to be a document recorded using crude binary code and transmitted electronically.M. Can you make out what it says?T. It will take me 2.7 minutes to decipher and another 4.3 nanoseconds to transcribe. Shall I proceed?M. Very well, but hurry.T. Working on it. This animate blob has a very disturbing appearance, it seems to be a life form. Corporeal carbon based. Extremely primitive.M. Is it aware of our presence?T. Unlikely. Even if it did have the mental capacity to perceive us, it would have no way of understanding what it was sensing.M. What is it doing?T. It seems to be activating an electron manipulating device with its appendages by closing circuits which produce small changes in the radiated output of this light emitting substrate as well as changes to the electronic docum

Hi all,As an artist I’m always on the lookout for ideas. (Aren’t we all?) Influences coming in all manner of guises, be it the work of someone I admire (the list is endless) a scene I see whilst out for a walk, a movie, or perhaps quite often a photograph. I’ve always been fascinated by ariel photos where landscapes take on that patchwork quilt effect, or those satellite images where entire coast lines are reduced to abstract shapes…ready material for the painter to capture, conjure and metamorphosize into something with a distinct ShirleyBod spin! What I love about Distant Shores is that it can work both as a purely abstract piece, free of deliberate form or subject matter, as well as working as an interesting interpretation of one of those ‘on high’ views of some shoreline (red sea aside!) However, in order to reduce that ‘ariel photo look (that ordinance survey feel) I’ve deliberately chosen the triptych format which splits the composition serving to emphasize i
Distant Boats Off the Belle Isle. (seascapes 4)It is such a beautiful day, the beach is empty, the kids are all back at school now and summer has put in a late appearance. The sky towers above, perfect blue going on forever. It is on days such as these that the worries and woes of the world are lost in the enormous beauty of that blue space. We are but grains of sand, very happy, very relaxed grains of sand…smile into the blue and listen to the waves and wish that we can kiss it all better because it is surely worth it.25.5cm x 20.5cm. 10in x 8in.Oil. After 2 years of marriage and 2 years of living apart from each other,we finally have settled and lived together as husband and wife and now a family. It was summer of 2004 when I met my husband. He married me and left me there in my country waiting for my visa to be approved.3 months of waiting, the devastating result came.It was denied.I know GOD has the purpose for me,I mean for us all.I think he doesn't permit me that time becuase I felt not ready yet to leave my country and my family.I still have lot of catching to do with my siblings.I will surely miss them especially the youngest who is attached to me.Everyone of them is my favorite but we all know it's the youngest who will surely be the "center of attraction".There are other reasons of course.I want my parents to be proud. It's because I am the first daughter and they need me to have my married blessed at the altar. We only wed via civil court.I want them to escort me walking on the isle, can u picture that?So then, never mind.If

At tens of millions of dollars a pop, wells drilled in the ocean's unforgiving deep waters are an investment oil companies consider worth watching around the clock. And watch they do. Increasingly risky exploration in recent years has prompted companies to create "real-time operation centers" that are to remote operations what Mission Control is to space exploration. Finding oil and gas in such harsh environments "really is like exploring in outer space," said Dean Malouta, technology manager at Royal Dutch Shell's real-time operations center — or RTOC — in Houston. In years past, problematic wells or equipment failures on platforms and rigs sometimes forced operations to shut down or slow down to await a troubleshooting team's arrival. Such idle time is costly. On average, it costs $1 million a day to operate a deep-water well, including expenses for the drilling rig, materials, services and logistics. If work is shut down, companies still pay. "We like not to have that happen

7 Loadings on the mechanism of accommodation (the adaptation of an eye to vision on various distances) 3. The verifying table is attached to a back cover of this book. Correct carrying out means, that should not be brought to an eye closer, than on six foots www.offshelf.net hoodia weight loss Thus the left (best) eye had 3 dioptries. Thus, despite of atropine, the right eye not only has overcome 2,5 dioptries , but also has added 6 dioptries of accommodation, having made in the sum of 8,5 dioptries.
Here's another watercolour. Unfortunately, I made a bit of a mess of trying to add some texture to the otherwise rather empty hillside in the middle ground. But the main point of this was to try mixing lots of different greens and getting the distant trees to be interesting. I'm not sure about their interest, but mixing the greens was useful. I'm starting to get very fed up with Payne's grey, as it lightens so much when it dries; I'll have to try some alternatives for mixing dark greens. Any suggestions gratefully received!
On my last post I gave some detailed information on recruiting close friends and family. But what about the friends and family you're not so close with? The ones who you just talk to every now and then, see them every once in a while, but don't really have any deep conversation with? In this post I'm going to give some ideas on how to get them to join your network, and build your downline. I'm

In the distant land of Suburbton,There were once more happy times. When children played on jungle gymsAnd ice cream cost just several dimes. But things, well, now they’re different,The place, it sure has changed. The problem crept up so slowly,People noticed nothing strange. At first, the accidents were small,A smash-up here and there,Soon the bodies were piling up,There was carnage in the air.The reason became obvious,Yet nothing could be done.Elderly drivers learned to use their cell phones. The menace had just begun. Now people refuse to leave their homes. There’s danger down every street. The weak and aged drive and chat mindlessly.Getting anywhere safely is quite a feat. Will the world learn the lesson of Suburbton,Or will their numbers continue to grow?If the yapping fossils aren’t stopped soon,It will be mankind’s biggest woe.
by: Brent Atwater The New Medicine: Integrative, Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM), - Medical Intuition & Distant Energy Healing: the Mind Body Connection In the Bravewell Collaborative's PBS special on the New Medicine Dana Reeves expressed that traditional medicine is now examining and addressing the entire mind body connection. One of the physicians interviewed stated "It is dumb" to not look at the entire person in order to determine the complete patient diagnosis. PBS previews state: "A burgeoning movement is taking place in hospitals and clinics across this country - integrating the best of high-tech medicine with a new attitude that recognizes that treating the patient as a whole person is essential to the healing process. As scientific findings reveal that the mind plays a critical role in the body's capacity to heal, the medical community is beginning to embrace a new range of treatment options, including many once considered fringe. if you're really interested in upcoming technology, you have to watch this one. It demonstrates an all new multi-touch sensing touch-screen technology that was showcased at TED 2006. Remember Minority Report (the movie) ? This will distinctly remind you of that.. In this video Jeff Han and Phil Davidson demonstrate how a multi-touch driven computer screen might change the way we work and play..
