      Case Dismissed
Received word late this afternoon that our court case concerning Ebony has been dismissed. We are both thrilled and relieved. Everything pretty much went just the way they said it would. In order to receive services a case must be filed against the parents to access the funds for residential care. Then after everything is reviewed and proof is given that the child does indeed need to be out of the family home and in residential or therapeutic group facilities then they dismiss the case. In our case everything went according to plan but I have heard of cases where it doesn't play out this way and the parents actually do end up with charges of abandonment. In an ideal world a family who is already traumatized by everyday life with a mentally ill child should in no way have to add additional stress into their lives by having to move through the family court system to get specialized care for their child. Mental illness needs to treated like any other serious illness and limits to th

Extradition Appeal Against Seven Bahamian Men Facing Drug Charges In The United States - Dismissed By The Judicial Committee Of The Privy Council
Extradition Appeal Dismissed: By Quincy Parker - Nassau, Bahamas: The Judicial Committee of the Privy Council has laid out the reasons underpinning the high court’s decision to dismiss the appeal against extradition for seven Bahamian men facing drug charges in the United States. The dismissal of the appeal on July 24, 2007 cleared the way for committal proceedings of the men to proceed without further delay. Trevor Thomas Roberts, Devroy Moss, Sheldon Athelston Moore, Lionel and Linden Deal, Shanto Curry and Gordon Newbold were arrested in 2004 following an extradition request by the United States. The men were suspected of having committed drug trafficking offences. After laying out the arguments presented by Maurice Glinton, the law lords dismissed them quite bluntly. "Their lordships are of the opinion that there is no merit in any of Mr. Glinton’s arguments," the ruling said. "There has already been an inordinate delay in these cases, due to the time that disposing of th

US teacher dismissed for urging pupils not to take Bible literally
The thought police are alive and well and living in Iowa.Steve Bitterman, a teacher at Southwestern Community College, Red Oak, Iowa, was fired yesterday after he urged his pupils not to take the story of Adam and Eve too literally. Bitterman was teaching a western civilisation course and often used extracts from the Old Testament as part of his lessons, but urged students to look beyond a literal interpretation of what he views as an "extremely meaningful story", believing such a reading would miss much of the poetic, metaphoric and symbolic content. After class, he also made the mistake of referring to the story as a "fairy tale" during a conversation with a student. The class was being broadcast to a second college in Osceola, Iowa, and it was a group of students from this class that reported Bitterman for "denigrating their religion". Bitterman's college has refused to comment on his dismissal, which it described as a "personnel matter".Speaking to Iowa newspaper the Des Moines Reg

U.S. District Judge John D. Bates dismissed the case on jurisdictional grounds and said he would not express an opinion on the constitutional arguments. Bates dismissed the case against all defendants: Cheney, White House political adviser Karl Rove, former White House aide I. Politics is full of rumors, half-truths and innuendo.  I have heard the rumor regarding Sam Hoyt circulating for quite a while now.  As an elected official public servant, I think Sam owes an answer to the voters. The rumor is that if Sam Hoyt is re-elected and Eliot Spitzer is elected Governor, Spitzer will be appointing Hoyt to a desirable position within New York State government.  Part 2 of the rumor is a bit murky.  I originally heard that Marc Coppola would be given Sam’s seat if he won his race with Antoine Thompson.  Another variation was that Marc needed to capture at least 40% of the vote. Regardless of the second part of the rumor, inquiring voters still want to know - “Sam, if you win, and Eliot wins, will you serve out your term?” We know that Sam Hoyt was an early member of the Spitzer Bandwagon. “Eliot Spitzer has what it
