Well, I finally took the plunge today. After months of reading about the wonderful world of dividend investing I decided to join the ranks and purchased my first individual dividend paying stock today (all my other investment money is in index funds in my RRSP.)With the recent market downturn there are a plethora of quality Canadian companies that have seen their share price drop, and subsequently their dividend yield increase. There are no shortage of tempting buying opportunities out there right now. However, since this is my first purchase I decided that I wanted to buy in a sector that has been a backbone of the Canadian economy, and a steady dividend payer: Canadian banks. With the subprime mortgage crisis in the US, bank stocks here in Canada have taken a beating in the last while. A

McDonald's Sweet and Sour Dipping Sauce.
This recipe clones one of those sauces you get with your order of McNuggets at the world's largest hamburger outlet. Now, instead of shoving a fistful of the little green packs into your backpack, you can make up a batch of your own to use as a dip for store bought nuggets, chicken fingers, fried shrimp, and tempura. Or you can even use this as a sauce for the traditional Chinese sweet and sour dish (with pineapple, bell pepper, onion, and sautéed chicken or pork.) It's a simple recipe that requires a food processor or a blender, and the sauce will keep well for some time in the fridge.1/4 cup peach preserves1/4 cup apricot preserves2 tablespoons light corn syrup5 teaspoons white vinegar1 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch1/2 teaspoon soy sauce1/2 teaspoon yellow mustard1/4 teaspoon salt1/8 teas

      Double Dipping
There is a large break in the design process between PvE and PvP. There is little, if any crossover. Designing a game for one of these things doesn’t really work. Just ask Auran. People expect both from their MMO and when they get only one they feel cheated. The problem, of course, from a purely developmental standpoint is that this requires (close to) twice the amount of work to be done. First you design one area of your game, and then the other and you have features for each. This wastes a lot of time and usually means the game is still heavily focused to one over the other (most likely PvE over PvP.) Essentially it becomes a matter of progressing through PvE content to advance (gain levels) and then, in the end, using those abilities to PvP. But why? Why design a feature set for each and then have them be (for the most part) mutually exclusive? Why not mix them together a bit? Make PvP, entirely, a worthwhile (or hell, even doable) form of advancement. Design one

Chicken Drumlets with Dual Dipping Sauce
My kids love these chicken drumlets. It's easy for them to hold on to to eat. This time to make the chicken stay crunchy longer, I changed the coating.Instead of dipping the marinated chicken in batter, I coat it with corn flour then washed it with beaten egg and lastly coat it with breadcrumbs, before I deep fried them. This method will produce a thinner crunchy outer layer but it requires more ingredients. If you prefer to have a thicker outer layer, you can always use the old method.I fried more of these drumlets so me and my husband can have some too; not only for the kids this time. And I made some dipping sauces to go with it. The kids of course still love it with tomato sauce. * Sesame Seed Sauce* Grind or pound 2 1/2 tablespoon Sesame Seed till paste-like. Add in 1 tablespoon each of Black Vinegar and Light Soy sauce with 1/2 tablespoon Sesame Seed Oil to it and mix well.* Spicy Mayonnaise Sauce *Mix 1 tablespoon of Chilli Sauce and Mayonnaise each together.http://feeds.feedbu

Billy Crystal Announces Tentative, Maybe, Partial, Sorta, Kinda, Dipping A Toe In, Perhaps, Unconfirmed, Speculative Entry in 2008 Presidential Race
Dear America,I, Billy Crystal, do officially announce my probationary entry into the 2008 Presidential race. Long have I stood on the sidelines and watched others run this country into the ground. Well, not anymore. With the exception of Scott Bakula, I am the most qualified man (and I stress the word man) for the job. I urge you to vote for me, if indeed I do run, which is uncertain because I don't want to committ to running until I know I can win, even though nothing is ever certain and I am 100% determined to run, but it sounds better to say I'm exploring the options. While I don't have any "platform" or "campaign ideas" or more than a "fifth grade education," it shouldn't matter. What should matter is that I starred in When Harry Met Sally and saw Meg Ryan fake an orgasm in a restaurant. That is much more important than an Iraq policy or a stance on the genocide in Darfur. What's more, I can do voices really well, so instead of faking a Southern accent, I can do an outdated Ho

Dipping my toe into the paint
I'm not going to promise you anything, but I think I might start blogging about Top Design on Bravo. I'm still filled with hate and bile after the deplorable depravity that was Season 2 of Top Chef, so I hope this show is a vast improvement, if only to lessen the bad taste in my mouth from Everybody Hates Marcel, as I came to call it. Already there's abrasive, unpleasant and flat-out obnoxious personalities in the competition (see photo), but as long as nobody is assaulted, I'm fine with that.I do get a little nervous that the promos themselves are promising "wall-to-wall drama." Like I said in my Top Chef rant, I don't want drama so much as I want beauty, art, innovation and creativity. But that might be too much to ask from reality TV. One thing that Top Design has that Top Chef didn't have (and, I think, suffered greatly for want of) is a knowledgeable, helpful person in the role of non-judge mentor. That said, Todd Oldham is no Tim Gunn. I mean, Oldham is certainly a grea

It's a very tasty snack, or can be a main meal served with fried rice. We resurrected it a few days ago for the first time in several years. Place 1 to 1-1/2 teaspoons of the meat mix inside a wonton skin. Fold skin diagonally, so you end up with a triangle. Dampen the edges of the skin with egg white and press together so they will seal and not come apart in the cooking process. Place stuffed skins in hot oil - 5-6 at a time - and fry until deep golden brown. Remove from frying oil and place on paper towels.

The Dangers Of Pension Fund Dipping
Human Resource Executive Online points out that the new Detroit "easy-fix" of buying out workers with pension-fund money might not be the greatest strategy ever. Chrysler and GM have both recently offered worker buyout packages, with money from overfunded pension accounts. The strategy is attractive, as workers can defer taxes on pension fund payouts to their 401k accounts, and corporate can keep their cash position intact. But overfunded pension accounts never stay overfunded for long, and observers say that intense market volatility makes now a bad time to risk underfunded pension liabilities. "The [Chrysler] fund is probably overfunded because of the over-inflated value of the stock or securities that have been invested," says Gerald Myers, business professor at
