Diagnosis = hard drive and major OS malfunction After about 6 calls to tech support, and endless CHKDSK commands, I deemed my hard drive unrecoverable, and the tech walked me through reformatting. I am left with what are the original factory settings, which amounts to Internet Explorer and some cool windows games.Yes, I did have a backup of important files... so I didn't lose EVERYTHING. Well I got in trouble at work today for doing my job. Parents have been complaining because I have been making their precious little darlings do their work and stay in their assigned seats. Apparently, I am just supposed to sit there and take roll and do nothing else. Well, that is not my job description and just plain stupid. I figured that kids would complain because they do not like being told what to do. The principal had to babysit one of my classes today, which was embarrassing for me. It made me feel like I could not do my job at all. I refuse to go to work tomorrow. No one treats me like crap and gets away with it. I am going to have their teacher make them give a written apology to me about their bad behavior. When kids have more power than a sub, there is something wrong with the picture. So lets just say things did not go well today at all. Another day in the trenches, and hopefully my last one at that school for a very long time.

So today my students got yelled at by the other teachers for being too noisy and not staying on task. It was like a prayer had been answered. I have never seen kids so quiet and working so hard. It was almost hard to believe if I did not witness it for myself.So first hour got yelled at three times and after that, they were as quiet as church mice and worked extremely hard on their assignment. I was so happy not having to force them to do their work.Second hour was not perfect but it was well-behaved for the most part. Since they have their own programs on the computer, it is an easy class to watch.Third hour should have had the book thrown at them but they did not. They were loud, had trouble staying on task but at least they were midly well-behaved. Acts of defiance and badmouthing did not happen.Fourth hour was prep and so I left early for lunch. I met the regular teacher this morning and she was incredibly nice and supportive. Out of all her hours, her first hour was definitely the worst. Apparently, asking kids to stay on task and work on the assignment makes me uptight. One student even told me to shut up when I asked her to be quiet. Four more days of these little devils. Here hardest hour was actually her easiest because the students kept on each other to be good for the sub, which was nice. There is even a teacher who is going to be available for help if I run into problems, which is a nice addition to the workday. I recently received an email from a reader with this question: I am thinking of running a website in order to generate income and quit the rat race; can you tell me from your personal experience, is it a wise decision? I’m really frustrated right now because I really want to put more time and energy into this blog and the research behind it, but at the moment I have no choice but to focus on my day job.  There’s simply too much going on and it would be foolish of me to divert too much of my attention.
