      Arnie terminates Clint's day job!
Clint Eastwood, former Mayor of Carmel, California, got a day that he wasn't expecting to pan out the way it did. Arnold Schwarzenegger had decided that his actor pal and mentor could be replaced on the State Parks Commission. All because Clint is against a plan to build the Foothill South toll road through San Onofre State Beach, a park in Orange County that is popular for its surfing and scenery. The project was defeated by the California Coastal Commission in February.Arnie may think a six-lane highway will help global warming, but I would have thought that Eastwood had more in the way of local support. But if you've got opposition, why not "terminate" them? Eastwood seems more bemused than annoyed. "I think it was just somebody got a bee under their bonnet at the right moment, so there

Diagnosis = hard drive and major OS malfunction After about 6 calls to tech support, and endless CHKDSK commands, I deemed my hard drive unrecoverable, and the tech walked me through reformatting. I am left with what are the original factory settings, which amounts to Internet Explorer and some cool windows games.Yes, I did have a backup of important files... so I didn't lose EVERYTHING. But as I sat down and tried to remember the myriad of software and downloads I had on my pc, I started to sniffle.I am in no mood to rebuild the last 4 years of computing. And since my hardware is getting ancient already (shudder the thought), I figured I might as well nix the rebuilding of the old data and bite the bullet and invest in a new desktop for the family.I hate technology.

In the 35 weeks since we last spoke, I have made over $670,000 using a unique Google "weapon" ...but all the while the gap between the haves and the have-not's continues to widen at an alarming pace. During these dark times, I have received over 3,000 e-mails from angry and confused affiliates, e-book buyers, and Google users, begging me to show them a “way out”... a clear path away from failure and towards success. Over 105,000 of my students have been asking for the reason why they continue to fail, despite the billions of dollars being made all around them. And it's taken me o

      Day Four of 5-Day Job
Well I got in trouble at work today for doing my job. Parents have been complaining because I have been making their precious little darlings do their work and stay in their assigned seats. Apparently, I am just supposed to sit there and take roll and do nothing else. Well, that is not my job description and just plain stupid. I figured that kids would complain because they do not like being told what to do. The principal had to babysit one of my classes today, which was embarrassing for me. It made me feel like I could not do my job at all. I refuse to go to work tomorrow. No one treats me like crap and gets away with it. I am going to have their teacher make them give a written apology to me about their bad behavior. When kids have more power than a sub, there is something wrong with the picture. So lets just say things did not go well today at all. Another day in the trenches, and hopefully my last one at that school for a very long time.

Day Three of 5 Day Job
So today my students got yelled at by the other teachers for being too noisy and not staying on task. It was like a prayer had been answered. I have never seen kids so quiet and working so hard. It was almost hard to believe if I did not witness it for myself. So first hour got yelled at three times and after that, they were as quiet as church mice and worked extremely hard on their assignment. I was so happy not having to force them to do their work.Second hour was not perfect but it was well-behaved for the most part. Since they have their own programs on the computer, it is an easy class to watch.Third hour should have had the book thrown at them but they did not. They were loud, had trouble staying on task but at least they were midly well-behaved. Acts of defiance and badmouthing did not happen.Fourth hour was prep and so I left early for lunch. I even cooked my first meal today all by myself. Anyone who knows me, knows that I do not cook so this was a real accomplishment.Fifth hou

Day Two of 5 Day Job
Well today was the second day of my five-day torture at one of the local high schools. First hour went much better today mainly because the main troublemaker was absent from class. Second hour was smooth as cake, which is incredibly nice in a long day. Third hour were not perfect angels but they were not the worst hour of the day. Considering that the teacher warned me that this hour is her worst, I have been pleasantly surprised so far. Fourth hour is her prep, which I badly needed today. So I decided to take an early lunch. Unfortunately, things did not go as I had wanted them to. When I got out to my car in the parking lot, I found it blocked by a student's car. There was no way I could get my car out of its parking spot without hitting another car. I had to wait about a half hour before students were let out for lunch in order to extract my car. So my nice leisurely lunch turned into a race against the clock.Fifth hour was a horrible class with students off task and blaming me for

Day One of 5 Day Job
So today was the beginning of a five day job at a different high school than Friday. I am teaching English and it is mostly juniors and seniors. I met the regular teacher this morning and she was incredibly nice and supportive. Out of all her hours, her first hour was definitely the worst. Apparently, asking kids to stay on task and work on the assignment makes me uptight. One student even told me to shut up when I asked her to be quiet. Four more days of these little devils. Here hardest hour was actually her easiest because the students kept on each other to be good for the sub, which was nice. There is even a teacher who is going to be available for help if I run into problems, which is a nice addition to the workday. And if things get really bad, there is a button that goes directly to the office for help. I hope to handle things on my own but I am not going to afraid to ask for help. So three of her hours are reading the Scarlet Letter. I read it in high school so I at least know

7 Reasons to Hate Your Day Job
Getting Up Every Morning There are some days when you wake up and don’t ever want to leave the bed, sit all day watch cartoons. Especially when there is a storm outside and you are feeling like you are chained to your warm bed. Too bad you aren’t at school anymore and you gotta hit the storm. Every frakking day. (Our thanks to Battlestar Galactica for this lovely word:) There is a new social organization in Denmark which describes themselves as “Morning Haters” and called B-Society which push companies to allow B-society to start work after10-11 a.m. I hope they help all the worlds B-society. Time The time passes by quickly. You turn the speed up by going to the same job everyday and living the same day over and over. You start to lose your sense of time and when you look back you see years left behind. A quote from Rumble Fish (to make you more depressed): “Time is a funny thing. Time is a very peculiar item. Day Job vs. Passion
I am working as an HR-Development manager in a multinational company. That's my day job. My passion is writing. Simple as that. Ever since I'm actually able to write.Balancing the two is increasingly difficult as the day job responsibilities are growing and I feel that my job becomes ever so much more demanding and time consuming.Recently I have started writing a historical novel. The story really gripped me from the first line I typed in my word processor. In my job I have a 45-minute lunch break. 15 minutes I spend for the walk from the office to the café and back and for eating my sandwich. 30 minutes I sit there, writing. In the evenings I mostly don't manage a lot in terms of writing because I am just too exhausted and the few hours (like 2 or 3) I need to recharge my batteries and spend time with my girlfriend. She's presently writing her master thesis, which means that the computer and the desk are occupied most of the time and of course an academic thesis with a deadline

Is It Wise To Quit Your Day Job And Depend On Your Website For Income?
I recently received an email from a reader with this question: I am thinking of running a website in order to generate income and quit the rat race; can you tell me from your personal experience, is it a wise decision? There are a few reasons why this question bothers me: “thinking of running a website” doesn’t sound very confident and is indicative of the fact that you probably don’t have one yet. “quit the rat race” sounds more like you are fed up of your day job - but it doesn’t show any love for developing (or maintaining) websites. In that case you should probably look for all possible alternate sources of income (for example, selling stuff on eBay, working at a different job, etc.), don’t just stick to starting a website. Many people mislead themselves into believing that blogs/websites can make a ton of money without requiring a lot of work. I am getting the vibes that the author of this question perhaps belongs to that categ

The only good news is that I’ve been able to spend a little of my time between working on “real” projects on a side project, currently simply called “ladder”.  The idea is you can create “ladders” of images and then people vote on which images are better and they move  up and down the ladder.  I haven’t done much with it yet, but the idea is to apply some internet marketing muscle to it and see if I can start generating some passive income through AdSense and/or other internet marketing style monetization mechanisms. If I’m at all successful (and to some degree, even if I’m not) it will actually serve as a case study for this pr

      Day Job Killer
How a 34 year old from NYC and a whizz-kid fromCalifornia "swiped" from the super affiliates and"raided" the gurus without anyone even knowing... STOP. * Day Job Killer Kills Your Day Job! *
Quite likely you have heard of “Day Job Killer” by now, and it is REALLY hard to ignore when everyone else praises it to the sky like it’s sliced bread 2.0. But make no mistake this is the same guy whose previous 2 e-books also deals with combining AdWords and Clickbank, and that’s all he does, except that he keeps finding new methods the way Michael Jordan splices through the defence over, under and sideways. Chris McNeeney reveals some incredible offline methods to generate ClickBank sales and even more ways to profit from AdWords like *nothing*. …PLUS a niche that makes him over $100,000 a year, and a “Direct Linking” method that makes him a cool $500 a month on autopilot just by promoting affiliate products on AdWords. If you’ve been keeping track, you might have heard Chris ‘used’ his customers to test his methodologies to get social proof before he published them in e-books. There’s really nothing more that needs

The ESS story… when a day job & career vision merge
When I joined (ESS) Environmentally Sensitive Solution, Inc. nearly four years ago, I did it as a favor to a coworker. They wanted me to do a few EHS audits of chemical companies and help them with their facility expansion. I volunteered my expertise as I believed this was an important cause. What I was amazed by was their concern for Environmental & Safety regulations in the cleaning industry and the vision of replacing all hazardous cleaners throughout industry. After a few small projects I realized the vast impact Environmental, Health and Safety of replacing the cleaners in just one industrial company. Removing millions of gallons of process waste & hazardous chemicals in a simple process change? It seemed too good to be true until I saw the upstream and downstream influence. Sadly, I informed ESS that I would be taking a job outside of Wisconsin and would not be able to help them onsite. To my amazement, they offered me a job to help them expand their vision of replacing h
