The first night was at Northampton where we'd never been before so we were a little worried ?cos we haven't toured for about 2 years. It feels like we're starting again, playing all the little sweaty places. That's our favourite thing, playing where you can actually see the crowd. It's quite a long tour this time? Umm, really long. It's almost like the comedy tours when you see a comedian doing 3 months. It's 5 weeks so it's almost twice as long as we've done it before; it will give us chance to figure out how to do the new songs and get them really tight then come back and do a normal UK tour in the new year.

- Oh wow. There's nothing more satisfying than finding a good little band with lots of potential then watching as BOOM! They realise that potential in an explosion of taut, tense folk-indie-rock. Folk? Well it's hard to work out how else to describe Sons And Daughters. Theirs is evil folk, rhythmically simple but louder, more electric, and full of menace. Over a bassline that feels like it is heralding the unstoppable arrival of something very very evil, 'Gilt Complex' is simply irresistible. Adele Bethel has one of the best voices in modern indie music, reminiscent of PJ Harvey at her angriest, but still Bethel's own. She uses it to tell a vicious morality tale which manages to both criticise its rich, celebrity victims but also revel in their existence. It's dirty and wrong and brilliant. Mitchell Silverman, an attorney in Florida, noticed in a recent news-story that GW Bush’s twin daughters presented him with a mix CD of exercise music for Father’s Day. Since the record industry maintains that making and distributing mix CDs is a copyright infringement, Silverman sent their legal offices a letter on letterhead asking them to sue. So my question is, because I haven’t really researched it too much (because it doesn’t matter, good work RIAA a few hundred down a few billion to go), but is copyright infringement an actual CRIMINAL act or is it just a CIVIL crime? Several months ago, my husband's grandmother gave me some books she was finished reading. They were books I had often thought looked interesting. I had just never brought myself to purchase them. There are five books in this particular series and I am currently in the midst of reading the third. Set during the time of World War II, this is a story of an Old Order Amish family in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The Ebersol family has several courting age daughters. During these years the Amish allow for what is called rumschpringe, the running around years. The youth often find a spouse and decide on joining the Amish church but sometimes it is a time given to sowing wild oats. Parents are not involved in this process and most is done under the cover of night. This series follows the family of Abram Ebersol and his daughters. A major study done by the American Association of University Women did a national sample of more than 3000 students in grades 4 through 10. They found that not only did boys have higher self-esteem in elementary school than girls but that the gap between them widened in high school. On one of the trips we went on when the guide realised my daughters were from New Zealand he said something to the effect that there was friction between our two countrymen i.e. New Zealanders and the English. I was a bit surprised by this as I wasn’t aware of it. I know New Zealander’s have a bit of a love hate relationship with Australia and they in turn, have a love hate thing with South Africans. And no doubt the South Africans have a similar relationship with some other nation. No doubt the US guide had met some New Zealander’s who had had a pop at the English, hence his attitude, though I’ve never heard the English have a pop at New Zealander’s. As an English guy I suppose I’ll have to lump New Zealanders in with all those other English poppers like the Irish, Scottish, French, Australian, Welsh and heaven knows who else. Police has arrested the mother of two girls, ages 5 and 8, who allegedly stabbed them to death at their mobile home about 30 miles outside of Detroit.  Sheriff Mark Hackel said “It’s an extremely horrific scene,” which is about the only way to describe it when innocent children are involved. The mother’s sister called the police on Sunday after she had visited the home.  The sister said that when she got to the home the door was already opened, and when she called for her sister she came to the door and said that she had harmed the children. Not only were the two kids found dead, but three dogs and a mouse were also found stabbed to death.  Police have not identified the woman arrested but did say that she is cooperating with authorities. There is nothing more I can say than that this is a sick, sick crime!
