Stress damages the brain
Individuals who experience military combat obviously endure extreme stress, and this exposure leaves many diagnosed with the psychiatric condition of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). PTSD is associated with several abnormalities in brain structure and function. However, as Roger Pitman of Harvard Medical School's Department of Psychiatry explains, "Although it is tempting to conclude that these abnormalities were caused by the traumatic event, it is also possible that they were pre-existing risk factors that increased the risk of developing PTSD upon the traumatic event's occurrence." Drs. Kiyoto Kasai and Hidenori Yamasue of the University of Tokyo and colleagues sought to examine this association in a new study published in the March 15th issue of Biological Psychiatry. 5 More Considerations for Calculating Damages
Sorry for the late posting. I was visiting a newborn cousin today. As promised, here are 5 more factors to consider, when calculating damages against an employer. This is not an exhaustive list. However, these 10 factors will certainly give you a good starting point for evaluating the amount of damages you and/or an attorney may seek in a civil suit. Even if you are represented by an attorney, you should still have an understanding of some of the factors that are weighed in regard to calculating damages. So, here are factors 6-10:6. The employer's actions after it was informed of discrimination should be considered. An employer who has notice of discriminatory conduct and fails to take action could incurpunitive damages. For instance, after an employee complained of discrimination (harassme

Considerations to Make When Calculating Damages
After looking at various EEOC recommendations and guidelines, there are about 10 factors I’d recommend you consider when it comes to calculating damages to seek against an employer. Today, I will list the first 5 factors:1. The degree of egregiousness and nature of your employer’s (coworker’s, supervisor’s, etc.) conduct should be considered. When you think of egregious behavior, think of what the EEOC refers to as behavior that is “shocking” or “offensive to the conscience.” Egregious behavior is outlandish/extreme and unconscionable. For instance, a coworker throwing a make-shift noose around a Black employee’s neck and HR dismissing this as “horseplay.”Or, a Black worker being told, per the EEOC example, that only a certain number of Black workers could work in

DENVER (AP) - A woman involved in a two-vehicle crash in Denver more than two years ago has gone back to court in an effort to get an insurance company to pay up. Shantel Gonzales was riding with a friend on Father's Day 2005 when the vehicle in which she was a passenger collided with a truck. Gonzales was 22 weeks pregnant at the time. Doctors performed an emergency Caesarean section, delivering a boy that Gonzales named Marco. But he was born 3.5 months premature, and lived for just over an hour. Rose Byrne for 6-Year Damages Contract
The NY Times just published an interview with Rose Byrne, stating that she signed a six-year contract for Damages!!"This show is hard work, but I'm loving it," says Byrne, who turned 28 last month. "It's like falling down a rabbit hole. It's not for actors who need the kind of control where you know the beginning, middle and the end, because it's not there yet."

Episode II: Jesus Mary and Joe Crocker'I manipulated you, yes.''Well I don't like to be manipulated.'And so the story truly begins! There were so many great quotes from this ep. I have to include a few to begin with.'I have a temper too, but I have learned when to use it,' says Patty. She's really sinking in her meathooks into Ellen. She's wanting to mould her into the perfect Sith apprentice.

Damages Review for Star Wars Fans
Episode I: The PilotThe intro music is so deceiving, much like the central theme of the show. Cue the peaceful external shots of New York, bringing you inside to the elevator revealing Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne) covered in blood.Glenn Close stars as Senator Palpatine, I mean, high-stakes litigator Patty Hewes. Her manipulation of the system and of the people around her is most definitely up to Palpatine's standards. She's cool, charismatic, and cold-bloodedly ruthless. Patience is a virtue Patty knows all too well and it reminds me of Susan Sarandon's character Wensicia from Children of Dune.

ON THE LOT - 8pm FOX On the Lot is getting close to the end. Two more contestants are going home tonight which leaves only 6 directors remaining. So far, my favorites are still in the competition, so we’ll see what happens tonight. Tonight, the remaining six will show their short romance film. That is bound to be interesting. EUREKA “Unpredictable” - 9pm Sci-Fi Yay, Eureka is back tonight. I think we all know how I feel about Eureka, my feel-good show. So far I am not disappointed in this second season. THE BILL ENGVALL SHOW “Aloha, Raffles” - 9pm TBS After watching the pilot last week, I have to say I am not convinced. I just don’t think this is my type of show, it didn’t appeal to me, but I can see why some people would like it. So for now, no more The Bill Engvall Show for me. Background and Extra work on "Damages"
Doing background work can be hit or miss or terms of whether or not it's a good experience (there's so many factors that are outside of your control), but here's some quick tips to help make this type of experience a positive one (as this one certaintly was for me) . . . First, check out Bob Frasers great advice article all about being an 'extra' in film and television. Second, leave in plenty of time to get to holding early -- I mean 10 to 15 or even 20mins early. 20 is good, because it's likely, in big cities like L.A., N.Y.C., or Chicago, you've never been to where they're shooting, so your gonna get lost -- count on it. This isn't pessimism -- it's realism. Third, usually you'll work on the set for less than 50% of the time your hired, sometimes a lot less. Unless you're up for chit-chat to your fellow background actors for 10+ hours, bring things you want to read, educate yourself; it's a great opportunity to catch up -- think of it like this: they're

No damages for student who said 'That's so gay'
A judge ruled last Tuesday that a high school student who sued after being disciplined and then mercilessly teased for using the phrase "That's so gay" is not entitled to monetary damages.Sonoma County Superior Court Judge Elaine Rushing said she sympathized with 18-year-old Rebekah Rice for the ridicule she experienced at Maria Carrillo High School. But, the judge said, Rice's lawyers failed to prove that school administrators had violated any state laws or singled the girl out for punishment."All of us have probably felt at some time that we were unfairly punished by a callous teacher, or picked on and teased by boorish and uncaring bullies," the judge wrote in a 20-page ruling. "Unfortunately, this is part of what teenagers endure in becoming adults."This from CNN.

Soda Damages DNA
Sodium benzoate, a preservative used in large quantities in soft drinks like Sprite, Dr. Pepper and Oasis, may cause severe damage to DNA and increase your risk of related diseases like Parkinson's while accelerating the aging process.Sodium benzoate appears to damage the “power station” of cells, known as the mitochondria, according to a British aging expert at Sheffield University. His studies found that the preservative can “totally inactivate” and “knock out” cells’ mitochondria, which causes the cells to seriously malfunction. The end result is an increased risk of a slew of diseases.Sodium benzoate has also come under fire because, when combined with the vitamin C in many soft drinks, it forms benzene, a cancer-causing chemical linked to leukemia. In one study, at least five brands of soft drinks were found to contain excessive benzene levels.Sodium benzoate is used freely in the United States and the UK. Fortunately, you can protect your health from this dangerous

Dump truck damages bridge on Interstate 5
A dump truck with its trailer bed in the raised position crashed into the North Fork of the Lewis River bridge on southbound Interstate 5, then was struck by a tractor-trailer early Thursday morning. According to the Washington State Patrol, a 1996 Kenworth dump truck driven by David Olson, 43, of Woodland left the yard of Groat Brothers Transportation in Woodland around 2:30 a.m. with the trailer’s bed upright. The raised bed snagged some power lines in Woodland. Olson continued, entering the southbound lane of I-5 from Woodland. About a mile down the freeway, the trailer hit a metal support beam of the North Fork bridge. That caused the dump container to come off the trailer frame, blocking the right lane. Olson stopped a short distance away, also blocking the right lane. Soon after, a 2005 Volvo tractor-trailer owned by Swift Transportation and driven by Timothy Price, 21, of Bend, Ore., collided with the dump container lying on the freeway.
