What Does Crime and Religion Have In Common?
By Bill JeffreysEvery criminal act committed was done so for emotional reasons. No one acts rational and logical and then goes out and commits a crime. Yes, even serial killers have emotional reasons for the crimes they commit. They just don’t have guilt. It never is, "I just realized how logical it is for me to murder". It’s always some underlying emotionally based dysfunctional belief that they are acting upon.Religion is very similar. No one goes out and follows god for reasonable and logical reasons because the foundation of religion isn’t based on accurate evidence, reason or logic. People don’t convert because of the supposed evidence. They convert for emotional reasons. They convert because it's supposed to make them feel better and give them hope.If I remember my Christian

Despite the fact that the movie is in Spanish, with English subtitles, I found myself very involved with the film. Because of all the scandals that we hear in regards to our local churches, you can imagine that this film is not very popular with the catholic church. The film starts off with newly ordained priest, Amaro, sent to his first church to study under Padre Benito. Benito considers himself an ogre and implies to Padre Amaro that that is the reason the bishop sent him there is to whip him into shape. With a new pair of eyes now overseeing the small town, Pad

What will you do about it?"The police officer will no doubt fight the urge to say "Well, I could do something if I wasn't on the phone to you."

      Crime And Punishment: An Opinion
Judges from the Golovinsky District Court have probably presided over quite a few puzzling cases in their careers. But the case of U.S. Pastor Phillip Miles must have seemed particularly strange to observers and the general public, if not to the judges themselves. Two months ago, the 57-year-old pastor at the Christ Community Church in Conway, South Carolina, decided to bring a gift for a friend living in Perm. His idea for a present was 20 hunting rifle rounds. What was he thinking? After all, there is probably no country in the world that allows outgoing or incoming passengers to carry undeclared ammunition, whether for hunting rifles or other firearms. The decision by the court on Monday to convict Miles of smuggling came as no surprise, but the fact that he was given such a severe sent

Crime And Punishment In The Bahamian Society
OPINION-Crime and punishment - The Nassau, Guardian: There are around one thousand people in prison in The Bahamas. Is that a lot or little? How can we tell? Compared to the 2.2 million people languishing in U.S. jails it does not sound all that many, but the population of The Bahamas barely exceeds 300,000, compared to the United States population in 2005 of 298.2 million. Prison, what a strange thing it is. We can remember our shock as a child being told that some adults had done things so bad, that they had to be locked away for years until they knew better. We could hardly imagine anything worse. Prisons seem to belong to the age of the horse-drawn cart and the workhouse, not to satellites and the Internet. Dowry Murder: The Imperial Origins of a Cultural Crime (review)
The Hindu custom of dowry has long been blamed for the murder of wives and female infants in India. In this highly provocative book, Veena Oldenburg argues that these killings are neither about dowry nor reflective of an Indian culture or caste system that encourages violence against women. Rather, such killings can be traced directly to the influences of the British colonial era. In the precolonial period, dowry was an institution managed by women, for women, to enable them toestablish their status and have recourse in an emergency. As a consequence of the massive economic and social upheaval brought on by British rule, women's entitlements to the precious resources obtained from land were erased and their control of the system diminished, ultimately resulting in adevaluing of t

3-state martial law sweep underscores how 'the distinction between crime and terrorism is becoming irrelevant'
From: Three States Subjected To "Martial Law Sweeps"   Federal law enforcement agencies co-opted sheriffs offices as well state and local police forces in three states last weekend for a vast round up operation that one sheriff's deputy has described as "martial law training". Law-enforcement agencies in Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas took part in what was described by local media as "an anti-crime and anti-terrorism initiative" involving officers from more than 50 federal, state and local agencies. Given the military style name "Operation Sudden Impact", the initiative saw officers from six counties rounding up fugitives, conducting traffic checkpoints, climbing on boats on the Mississippi River and doing other "crime-abatement" programs all under the label of "anti

Nic Cage Sells Off the Scene of the Crime
Today the good folks at Wall Street Journal Private Properties column (and Mister Big Time) are reporting that hair challenged house hopping actor Nic Cage has done sold his Newport Beach house for a whopping $35,000,000. Yes puppies, this is the very same house where Mister Cage recently awoke in the middle of the night to find a naked intruder trying on his leather jacket.Property records show that Mister Cage, who owns ten or more properties around the world, purchased the Newport Beach house in July of 2005. Records to not indicate a purchase price however it's rumored and reported that the real estate obsessed actor paid somewhere between $22-25,000,000 for the waterfront property.Located on Bayshore Drive in a private community overlooking Newport Harbor, property records indicate th

Oyunun tamamen GTA kopyası olmasını bir yana bırakın PC'ye kontrol opsiyonu olmadan uyarlanması A

      taking photos not a crime
It seems that the authorities think that photographers are terrorists now. The BBC has highlighted a growing number of people being stopped by police for nothing more than taking pictures of buildings or in stations. The Met even have a poster campaign going. Who’s next?  Shoppers? Drivers? Seriously, if someone wants to take a photo of a [...]

Migrant workers do not equal crime wave
There's a police report out this week (see BBC item here) that effectively says that the influx of migrant workers to various parts of the UK has NOT led to a disproportionate increase in crime, despite what some think. It's simply a numbers game. From any 1000 people you are likely to have 10 who break laws, cause trouble etc. That's from any group, not just the migrants many have pointed the finger at. For people in and around Crewe where considerable numbers of economic migrants have arrived it would be easy to say that certain types of crime have increased. Apparently, that's not right. Moreover, take a look at the latest CNBC magazine/newspaper that hit the letterboxes over the last week and there's an article by a woman from MMU suggesting that people need to give migrant workers mor

Guerrilla Marketing Meets CSI: Interactive Crime Scene
Experiential and guerrilla marketing have the ability to capture people's attention beyond the boundaries of traditional media, and motivate them to share their stories with others - giving a campaign the chance to spread virally through word-of-mouth. This campaign for "The Action and Suspense Channel" in Germany illustrates the inventiveness and creativity that embody well-thought and executed guerrilla marketing efforts. A bar in Hamburg, Germany installed a bloody crime scene in the bathroom that can only be seen with a special black light. When a person enters the bathroom, the regular lights are turned off and replaced by the black light. All of a sudden the messy crime scene can be seen all over the floor and walls and the message: “See what others don’t see. 13TH STREET. The Ac

Heres whats going on with Wesley Snipes:Federal prosecutors say actor Wesley Snipes should serve the maximum possible penalty for failing to file a tax return. Prosecutors say in court documents filed Monday that Snipes’ case “cries out” for him to serve the maximum, which is up to three years in prison. The “Blade” star’s lawyer says he has not reviewed the documents and will respond with a pre-sentencing memorandum of his own. Snipes, 45, was convicted in February of failing to file a tax return. A Crime Investigation
I heart garage sales. I'm mad about estate sales too. Thrift stores make my heart all-a- flutter.  The smell of 'must and old' make me giddy.  As a teen, I used to shop in second hand stores, for my clothes, because I wanted too. And, I don't even consider this a problem. The town I live in is too good for garage sales.  The people around here don't need old things that have been used, heaven forbid.   They are rich.   Even if I was rich, I would still long for the grime of a good sale. They do have an annual flea market.  It's their compromise to help people in less fortunate places, to come and glean from our fine things. Well.  I go.  Of course.  Just the other day, as a matter of fact.I found some great stuff.  I'm actually on home decor probation, so I shopped fo

      Breastfeeding is Not a Crime!
I've been forwarded this email several times through different groups and I think it is important to share. Get the word out! :o)Just a couple of months ago, a mother was kicked out of a museum in New York for breastfeeding, a perfectly legal act in that state. [1] Mothers continue to suffer discrimination and humiliation for breastfeeding, even though doctors recommend breastfeeding for all infants. Clearly we need Congress to pass the Breastfeeding Promotion Act (H.R. 3799) now--before more mothers are stigmatized and humiliated for breastfeeding. But this Act is currently stalled in Congress, and isn't going to move forward without increased citizen pressure. You can supply that pressure.CONTACT YOUR CONGRESSPERSONNOW: ng.org/CosponsorBreastfeedingAct(And forward this email to frien
