And today we have the final recipes in the Holiday Recipes series I’ve been putting on with Amanda and Tyler of What We’re Eating. At our pre-holiday dinner, Amanda made a delicious cranberry sauce that included persimmons and just a touch of fresh rosemary. I would never have thought to add rosemary to cranberry sauce, [...]
I love this stuffing and so does my family, since I found this recipe Thanksgiving 2006. It tastes so good with the sweetness of the cranberries and apples that goes with the savory of the onion, celery, and spices of stuffing. This recipe comes from Kraft Foods and Family magazine (of which I subscribe to faithfully) Holiday 2006 edition. You can subscribe to Kraft Food and Family magazine from
Here is a tasty twist to regular cranberry sauce at your Thanksgiving table. It is Cranberry Mousse, and it is very easy to make. You can make it into single serving size or one large mold to have on the table to add a little bit more elegant flair on the table instead of regular cranberry sauce. It looks pretty too! I got this from Kraft Food and Family magazine Holiday edition 2006. The fre

Cranberry sauce is a relish eaten almost exclusively on Thanksgiving with the turkey and Thanksgiving food, cranberry sauce is made with boiled, sugary cranberries. You can add other flavors like spices, juice or the zest of citrus.

Some people love Cole Slaw and some people hate it. I used to hate it as a kid because the ones I had tried were overly dressed and soggy, like cabbage sitting in mayo soup. I didn't have a good one till some time during college but now I'm a fan, well sometimes. If your family like slaws, this one has a Thanksgiving touch to them, dried cranberries. It's easy to make. You can (well, have to) make
Most of you are probably screaming that it's too early to be thinking about Christmas, but I really do love the holiday season. How could you not love Christmas and all it's charm? Well, on the writing front, I'm printing this bad boy of a story out today and will get it ready to mail.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~On the home front, I'm making Thanksgiving Day dinner this year. In November, people generally make Cranberry Sauce, but for a welcome change on Thanksgiving, try this aromatic and delicious Spiced Cranberry Plum Sauce or Plum Chutney, and you'll love it! Fall is most certainly in the air. The leaves are turning and the nights are crisp and cool...it is my favorite season! Here in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, it was a little later in arriving than usual, and although I enjoyed the extra warm days that we were blessed with, I am thrilled that the time has come for me to pull out some recipes that I tend to ignore in the warmer months. Cranberry Bread, flavored with zesty Orange and filled with the goodness of Pecans and crushed almonds, and topped with a layer of butter or maple syrup, served with a cup of hot tea or coffee! I'm confused! Is muffin like cupcake? Is cupcake like cake? Are you?I just found muffins are less sweet compared to cupcakes (go have a look at the sugar the two recipes require) Muffins are also heavier where as cupcakes which are actually cakes baked in cups are much lighter and fluffier.Oh, those you see with icing and sweet and cute decorative stuff on are usually cupcakes not muffins.Hmm ... I have sweet tooth. So ... I prefer cupcakes but I love the cranberries though. My friend and her family preferred muffins so they were happy when I made these for them. It's always great to have a "sweet start" to a day, and as breakfast is the first important meal of the day, having something sweet in the morning balances your caffeine and also gives you the instant energy to kick-start your day. But at the same time, it's not a good practise to go for a high-calorie, high-fat sugar-packed meal, so opt for something lighter and healthier, like these wonderful Eggless Cranberry-Walnut Breakfast Scones. Low in fat, these semi-sweet scones are packed with the goodness of cranberries and walnuts that make this a healthy sweet treat any time of the day! This recipe is heavily adapted from Jeanne Lemlin's cookbook Vegetarian Classics. She has a Black-currant Buttermilk Scones recipe which I modified to make these cranberry and walnut scones; I essentially chose
For Taste & Create V, I have been paired with Jill of Hey, That Tastes Good! Eagerly, I browsed through Jill's site for a recipe to create. Jill's site was an education for me - it was my first encounter with a blogger who blogs gluten free. Hmmmm, I thought, here's a challenge for me!! After reviewing several recipes that appeared delicious, I settled on the Cranberry-Orange Relish, for several reasons! Firstly, I love cranberries. Secondly, I adore oranges. Thirdly, I am fanatical about relishes. And last but not the least, I had never tried making anything with cranberries thus far.Jill's original recipe can be found at: Cranberry Orange Relish. It calls for the pulp and zest of 1 orange, 3 cups cranberries, and 11/2 cups sugar to be whisked together in the food processor, refrigera

I got a little carried away. This time I tried to give the biscottis a more gourmet look, with the extra walnuts and peanuts. I melted these semi-sweet and white chocolate swirled morsels by Nestle Toll House, and drizzled over the biscottis.Pretty right?
Last time I used Pillsbury Quick Bread mix, I made banana bread. This time I wanted to try another flavor. Cranberry! Yum!I got this idea to make Cranberry Biscottis after finding the recipe on the side of the box. I'm a big coffee drinker and biscottis would just go great with my morning coffee.I made a few changes from the original recipe. I eliminated the use of white vanilla chips and replaced it with sliced almonds instead. Here I'll reiterate the recipe:Ingredients:1 package of Pillsbury Cranberry Quick Bread and Muffin Mix1/2 cup of butter, melted2 eggs, slightly beaten,2 to 5 tbsp of all purpose flour1 handful of sliced almondsDirections:Heat oven to 350 degrees F. This pork tenderloin recipe is so easy, uses very few ingredients and is so good it can be served to company with many oohs and ahhs.I first made this dish for my husband for Valentine's day way back when we were dating. He loved it.And I make it every so often when I want something restaurant quality for dinner.I strayed from my menu tonight because I had it in my head since this morning that I wanted this .You can use the cranberry sauce with the whole berries but I prefer the jellied cranberry sauce. And the crushed rosemary I use because I hate biting into those long pieces of rosemary. They get stuck in my teeth! Use good quality balsamic and serve a great red wine and you're set.I served baked rice and roasted broccoli with the tenderloin tonight and I am a happy girl.Cranberry Balsami
Location: New York, New YorkDate: November 3, 2007As an inaugural celebration for its new cranberry drink, Ocean Spray replicated a small cranberry bog at Rockefeller Center. A bog is a piece of wetland. Cranberries shrubs enjoy growing in such environment. But their shortness makes picking the berries manually a pain in the back literally. Therefore, during each year’s harvest, farmers flood their bogs so the cranberries would flow off their stems and onto the water’s surface. This way the berries can easily be collected with a machine.Cranberry ShrubsFlooded Cranberry BogCranberry Collecting Machine
Cranberry sorbet is not too sweet and a little on the tart side. It's delicious on its own but also goes well with tropical fruit. INGREDIENTS:4 cups fresh cranberries (about 1 1/2 twelve oz. bags)2 cups water2 cups sugarZest from 1 orangeJuice of 2 lemons1/4 cup limoncello PREPARATION:Rinse cranberries and throw out any debris and shriveled or discolored cranberries. Place cranberries and water in a pot and bring to a boil. Cook for 8 minutes. Cranberries will pop when they cook, so cover slightly to protect from splattering. Pour hot mixture into blender with sugar and, with your hand securely holding the lid on the blender, purée until smooth. Add orange zest and continue to blend. Pour hot mixture through a sieve into a bowl. Place bowl in an ice bath to chill. While sorbet is chillin
Last Saturday, I followed through on my promise to make something sweet for the tasting room (which I planned to get double use out of by tripling the recipe and taking one third to a dinner party that night). Waking up early that morning, I got out the ingredients for these cranberry cupcakes with maple cream cheese icing. I followed the insrtuctions, except for adding more cranberries and more maple syrup. Once they were cool and frosted, I loaded them up on plates– with extras in tupperware– and headed over to work. Because they were more like muffins and the only sweetness came from the syrup, I decided to go with the dessert wine with lowest residual sugar: the 2004 Rosenblum Syrah Port from the Castanho Vineyard in San Francisco Bay. The wine showed light spice, smoke, and cherries and cranberries that went quite nicely with the cupcakes. Yum.

I found this in an old Cooking Light magazine and though the photograph may not be spectacular the cake is. Think of it like a cinnamon roll cake, perfect for December breakfasts. Hey, it's Thanksgiving and I love pumpkin cakes, breads, and rolls. I don't like pumpkin pie though. For me, it's the texture. Pumpkin pie is like a wet custard and it's usually ultra sweet as well. For a nice and easy quickbread recipe, try this Pumpkin Cranberry Bread. I didn't have two 9x5 loaf pans so I used one 9x5 loaf pan and one 8x8 square glass baking dish. I removed the 8x8 baking dish from the oven at 40 minutes and the loaf pan at 50 minutes. Both came out the same. Yum.Also, the dough looks strong enough to bake free form to make scones. If you try that, let me know how it comes out!
Compounds in cranberries are able to alter E. coli bacteria so that they are unable to initiate an infection. E. coli are responsible for illnesses ranging from kidney infections to gastroenteritis to tooth decay.
Beneficial health effects that have long been attributed to cranberries and cranberry juice -- in particular, the ability to prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs). A new study used an atomic force microscope and other sophisticated tools to study how certain tannins (called proanthocyanidins or PACs) which are found primarily in cranberries interact with bacteria at the molecular level.
The study found that the compounds prevent E. coli from adhering to cells in the body, a necessary first step in infections.

This recipe was given to me by a high school classmate that I recently got in touch with at our 20 year reunion. After he found out I had a food blog, he mentioned a family recipe for cranberry frappe that he would share if I was interested. He said they usually serve this instead of cranberry sauce at Thanksgiving. I’ve never cooked with cranberries before and I had been looking for other interesting sorbet flavors to make, so this cranberry frappe recipe really interested me. At the time it was August, so I knew I would have to wait a few months before fresh cranberries would be readily available at the store. A little over a month ago I was finally able to spot fresh cranberries at my local supermarket.
The texture of this sorbet is incredibly smooth and reminded me a lot of the raspberry sorbet I make. A frappe has more of a slushy texture, so I renamed this recipe as a sorbet since that is how I was going to serve it. If you wanted to make this into a frappe, you could unde
Yes, yes I know that jellied cranberry sauce jiggling on a plate in the perfect form of a can is an American tradition but once you've had the real stuff you won't go back, I promise. A true cranberry sauce is good on turkey, chicken or pork and it has the beauty of sweet and savory, not just sickly-sweet.This sauce has some body to it and is a wonderful accompaniment to the traditional turkey meal. It also freezes well so you can enjoy the leftovers. Don't forget to saute the onions at a medium heat so they don't gain bitterness and maintain a nice, mellow sweetness.1 ½ cup chopped onion¼ cup butter4 cups fresh cranberries3/4 cup water3/4 cup chicken broth1 ¼ cup brown sugar3 tablespoon lemon juice1 teaspoon ground gingerSaute the onion in the butter for five minutes over a medium heat until they're soft and translucent. Then, in a medium saucepan heat the berries, water and broth until the berries begin to pop, about five minutes. Add the onion and butter mixture, sugar,
This is one of my all-time favorite Thanksgiving side dishes! I actually make it both at Thanksgiving and at Christmas. Honestly... I could eat the whole pan myself!I'm not sure where this recipe originated, except that one year my mom just started making it. I think she may have received the recipe from a co-worker. The recipe originally made a very moist cranberry bread and Mom altered it to make a cobbler. One year, probably when I was in college, I took over the responsibility of making it and I've done it ever since! It's incredibly easy to prepare, and it's a gorgeous dish to bring out for company. This dish is perfectly tart and sweet at the same time! Before I was introduced to this Thanksgiving Cranberry Cobbler (which can be served as a side dish OR dessert) I did NOT like cranberries. Now they are one of my favorite foods! I could eat them all year long!Kate, over at Gluten-Free Gobsmacked is hosting Gluten-Free For the Holidays . If you would like to enter one or several
Along with pumpkins, winter squash (which, I’ve never cooked, but I’ll get to that soon thanks to Mary Frances), and fresh apples… one of my favorite things about fall is cranberries. Those beautiful, bright red, little round glistening berries with a spunky tartness! I love the boldness of cranberries. I’ll be sharing several more dishes with cranberries this holiday season, but I wanted to give you a sneak peak of the beautiful berry in an elegant little muffin. I like to make muffins because they are portable, baked in single servings, and are great for quick “on-the-run” breakfasts. I usually make at least one batch of muffins a week. Our muffins vary from week to week: Some weeks we’ll use bananas that are hitting the expiration date, other weeks we’ll use leftover corn from dinner the night before. Muffins can be sweet or savory, fluffy or crumbly, with a glaze or without… muffins give you a choice. I like that. For the muffins I made this week, I deci
As humans start to grow old, many of our organs can't seem to keep up with the stress of age, but unfortunately, our taste buds never get old. They are always craving for something tasty, be it sweet, spicy or savoury, and often it becomes a challenge to cook food that is healthy and tasty. That is one of the reasons I love the HotM Blog, a perfect place to share healthy recipes. Their latest endeavour is "Baking for a healthy Heart", and I think my Cranberry-Pistachio Biscottis are a perfect way to enjoy some sweet with your tea or coffee, without putting more pressure on your heart!Ingredients1 roll of parchment paper (or butter paper)2 egg whites only(not the yolk as that is what contains all the fat)1/2 cup sugar (or sweeteners if you are diabetic)1/2 cup all-purpose flour1/2 cup wheat flour2 tsp baking powder1 tbsp olive oil4 tbsp milk1/3 cup shelled pistachios - sliceda fistful of dried cranberries1/2 tspn vanilla essenceNote: This is a healthy version of the recipe, so you migh
I’m quite fond of wild rice and just received a care package of it from a friend in another province. I like the nutty flavour, and it, coupled with the tart cranberries and a hint of sherry (okay, so add more than just a hint – I do!) make this a really unusual soup.Cranberry Wild Rice Soup4 tbsp unsalted butter1 carrot, finely chopped1 celery stalk, finely chopped1/2 cup finely chopped onion3 tbsp all purpose flour3 cups vegetable stock1 1/2 cups cooked wild rice1/2 cup dried cranberries1 cup milk or half and half2 tbsp dry sherrySea salt and freshly ground pepper to tasteSage or parsley for garnishIn a Dutch oven, melt butter over medium heat. Add the carrot, celery and onion. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the carrot is tender (about 8 minutes). Add the flour and stir until smooth. Gradually stir in the vegetable stock, whisking as you go to avoid the formation of lumps. Increase the heat to medium-high and stir until soup is thickened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the rice and

How many times has your best friend complained to you about her large pores? Next time she opens her mouth about it, tell her about ARCONA Cranberry Gommage ($42/3.4oz @ arcona.com). This one uses enzymes to clean, exfoliate and tone the skin and really get into those pores to clean them out. As with any scrub for the face, don’t overdue it and strip your skin. It’s recommended for use a few times a week.
Hmm. It is hard to admit failure when you are so close to victory. This morning I got up a 4 am because I wanted to have a fresh scone with my morning coffee. The recipe sounded great, I even had all the ingredients on hand. (Yes!) Hmm, two hour chill time? No problem. So, there I am at 4:00 in the morning making scones. It’s still dark outside, the temperature is around 55*degrees. Great scone weather. At 4:30 am, the scones go into the freezer for their 2 two hour chill time. Cool. This gives me enough time to drive over to the Rose Bowl for a quick three-mile run/walk. When I get back, I hop in the shower, get dressed, preheat the oven and wait for “scone time”. Finally the moment I’ve been waiting for 6:30 am. Yes! The scones go into oven; I set the timer, and wait. At the 5-minute mark, I start the coffee.Ding! It’s time! I open the oven door, pull out my scones, and …ugh. Are they supposed to be this ugly? They’re not this ugly at the coffee shop. (Are they?) I don
