For those who follow the local government stuff, you might be interested to learn that the recent consultation on how to structure Cheshire's districts has resulted in a probable outcome of two unitary councils! Indeed, with most favouring the "keep it as it is" option, but to make considerable improvements, with a single unitary council favoured by Cheshire CC itself, the result is a bit of a shock. It could mean that Crewe and Nantwich get thrown in with Macclesfield and Congleton. Quite how that will work, where the admin centre will be or how many local CNBC councillors will be axed remains unclear. They need to work the details. The CNBC lot won't take this lightly, and further talks and investigations are planned. Most surprising is the cash angle; how can creating two unitary councils be cheaper than the proposed single tier? Wasn't that the reason behind the consultation? Well, back in primary school, I’m not sure if we had a council. However, in secondary school and after, I do recall having a student council. I’m not sure if England’s school council is the same as our student council but based on the phrase, the purpose is somewhat the same.
In the recent days, student councils have become a practice even for private institutions. These institutions are known to be money-sucking commercialized businesses that feed on those who wish to gain a higher level of education. Yet lately, I’ve seen a change, an improvement in their structure. It’s somewhat becoming more “student oriented” still money-sucking in many ways nevertheless.
