With very few exceptions, I don't eat Chinese food outside of Chinatown or Flushing. There is a very good reason for that. Most Chinese restaurants scattered across Manhattan are awful and basically inedible.Lon was craving dumplings so we took a chance and tried The CottageThe Cottage. The dumplings were horrible. The pork filling and dough were both so dense that it's no surprise that they weren't cooked through. Yes, they were cold in the center. The meat was also completely flavorless.I now had low expectations for our main dishes but they were actually not that bad. I wouldn't really call it Chinese food but it was good "fake Chinese". Lon chose a Chicken with Black Bean Sauce. He asked that they add snow peas and they happily accommodated. The dish was a bit salty but otherwise perfectly cooked chicken and vegetables. I asked for a special, Garlic Prawns with garlic, fried shallots, and scallions on a bed of steamed vegetables. We were both impressed with the generous portion

If one is unfamiliar with her "Corgi Cottage" garden, it is a delightful example of cottage gardening that truly pictures what is possible for that sort of landscape... with all the old fashioned lifestyle that Tasha Tudor is also famous for, in life and art.I think that the "for American Gardeners" part of the title is a misnomer, unless it refers only to the zones that mimic English climate such as the Northern coastal regions of the West Coast and the lower New England and Mid Atlantic states on the East Coast. Weird dreams last night. When I woke up in the wee hours to go to the bathroom I told myself I had to remember at least one bit of one. And I did.
For some reason I felt the desire to pour cottage cheese into my cup holder in my car. It seemed to make sense at the time, but then when I went to eat it, it had dog hair in it and was completely gross. I don’t like cottage cheese anyway (but I feed it to the dogs) so it was quite odd indeed!

I’d heard rumblings of the existence of this book from a variety of sources, and decided to take a look at it. I couldn’t immediately locate it on amazon (though it’s available now), and checked the UNC student stores on a whim. When I saw it on the shelf, I knew I had to have it immediately.
First and foremost, you really have to commend anyone who titles their book “The Meat Book,” and give it shelf presentation of a beautiful hunk of beef and “Meat” in big bold letters. And it’s not even an Atkinsian diet book!
