Apple seems to be core-happy with its Mac Pro lineup. It has now announced an 8 core Mac Pro. These Macs are configurable up to 6 GHz (2x 3.0 GHz Processors). That is a Mac record or an irecord if you will. Don't expect these new Macs to run cheap, prices start at $2499 shipping now. But if you want to go fully loaded, like the system I configured, it will run you about $16,000. Granted that includes dual 30" Apple Cinemas. Apple on Wednesday updated its Mac Pros bringing 8-core processing to the Mac by adding two new 3.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors.
"At 3.0GHz, the quad-core Mac Pro runs up to 2x faster than the Power Mac G5 Quad."
The new 8-core Mac Pros will ship with two 3.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5300 processors. Older models with the 2GHz, 2.66GHz, and 3GHz Dual-Core chips are also still available.
