College Gate behind the old Ursuline Convent
Most Crewe folk will have seen the revamped Ursuline Convent on Nantwich Road, beautifully restored and converted to apartments. Behind what was most recently used as a Police Training College, there used to be some grotty concrete blocks of accommodation. They are all gone. In their place is College Gate, an attractive spread of town houses that face the back of the old red-brick convent. Probably part of the developer's agreement, a vast expanse of grass has been retained. So for once the houses haven't been squeezed onto every available bit of land. The former convent has been under wraps for some time, but last week the developers dropped the covers to reveal some impressive renovation. Many feared that original features and window detail might be stripped back but as you can see from the snap all is looking good. There plenty more work to be completed, but developers Morris Homes are now happy to start taking your cash for one of the plush pads on offer. There are also a few new-build houses around the back off Salisbury Avenue (College Gate), with prices from £162,500 - £265,000. So if you fancy a residence along Nantwich Road you know where to look...

New look for old convent and police training HQ
Last weekend I couldn't resist a quick nose at the old Ursuline Convent off Nantwich Road, you know, the beautiful red-brick building that was also used as a training centre by the police. It's been under wraps for some time but is now set to be unveiled, fully restored to its former glories. This time the Grade II listed building is coming back to life as posh apartments, with a development of town houses behind - called College Gate, put together by Morris Homes. It's looking good, with the old featured restored and even the windows replaced like for like. Apparently, there were several hundred people on the waiting list when the scheme was originally unveiled. There's a few more snaps on the Alexandra page of Images of Crewe...As an aside, it does look as though Crewe will become more "urban" with an emphasis on redevelopment of brown field sites, more apartments, and a return to three, four and even five-storey living! I overheard (as you do, over a coffee in Costa) a couple of
