Teaching Your Child About the Natural and Logical Consequences
Knowing when to require a child to obey and when to let them take the consequences of an independent choice is always a tough dilemma for parents. One pair of ideas that can help them are the twins: natural consequences and logical consequences.Natural consequences are the reality-determined effect of some choice a child has made. Burning a hand on a hot stove is the most obvious and extreme example. No intervention on the parent's part is needed to show the child the connection between its ill-chosen action and the bad result.Feeling the effect of failing to stick to a commitment is a better, and typically safer, scenario. A child promises to save money in order to buy a bicycle. But he or she yields to temptation and spends the money instead on worthless junk that quickly breaks, then st

The Economic Consequences of George W. Bush
In what I'm sure will be the first of many articles in the coming year about the long-term consequences of the policies of the Bush administration, this Vanity Fair article discusses how America has been living beyonds its means the last seven years.Between spending money on this absurd War on "Terror" to tax cuts for the rich to millions of people losing their homes, the next couple of decades is going to be a dire time while we're trying to dig ourselves out of this mess.Unfortunately, most people do not want to worry themselves about it until they themselves actually lose their jobs and homes, no longer being able to feed their kids. By that time, it will be too late.

      Actions and consequences
Suppose one country sends an army into another country, destroying food and livelihood. That would usually be seen as an act of aggression, an act of war. It would be condemned by the international community and in certain circumstances various treaties would be invoked and allies would come to the aid of the country so attacked.Suppose one country damns a major river and diverts the water supply which a neighbouring country relies on. That would usually be seen as an act of aggression and might even be seen as tantamount to war. It would probably be condemned by the international community, and it might be that sanctions would be invoked against the perpetrator of this theft. Now suppose one country behaves in such a way as to destroy food, livelihood and water supply not just of its neighbours but of countries near and far, but does so in an underhand way and denies responsibility for the consequences of its actions. Would that be considered an act of aggression deserving of conc

(spoiler!!!) (more…) Bu Yazıyı Paylaşın

HEROES Recap - “Truth and Consequences” (2×10): Dear Monica…
Damn Monica, this is what happens when you transition from a New Orlean’s fast food business straight into the “I am a super hero” business. One minute it’s: “Would you like some fries with that?” The next minute you’re like a trapped creepy crawly with a can of Raid in your face. I guess if there is one thing the penultimate episode (HEROES – “Truth and Consequences”) teaches Sister Girl, it’s don’t go chasing Glock-wielding arsonists (with a thing for comics) when your power comes from watching Jackie Chan-lite videos on your iPod. Hell, couldn’t Bob have set Monica (Dana Davis) up with some Matrix video clips? Maybe watching some of Trinity’s bone-breaking kung fu moves would have prevented Monica from being thrown around like a sack of laundry. But I suppose this only means we should plan on seeing Nikki (Ali Larter) break out a can of wup ass on those young comic-stealing punks in next week’s finale. Anyway, didn’t we see Monica’s level

TV Show: Heroes: Truth & Consequences
Last night's episode of Heroes was decent. We saw many of the Heroes and I think the only ones we missed were Matt Parkman, Nathan Petrelli and Mrs. Petrelli and The Haitian. Sylar, Maya and Alejandro - Guess who won't me in another episode. Yeah, Sylar keeps to his murderous ways and kills Alejandro. He pushes Maya to use her power and then control it. Then we no longer need her brother. Sylar ends up killing him. Sylar also contacts Mohinder and threatens Molly. So, was there an actual babysitter or did he neutralize Parkman? What is wrong with Maya, can't she see that Sylar is evil? Where did she think her brother went?Peter Petrelli and Adam Monroe - Peter is out to stop the virus from being released. Adam wants to release it and purge the world. Adam has convinced the easily led Peter that he is on the good side. Peter and Adam find Victoria Pratt. Apparently they are much faster than Parkman, shouldn't he have been at Victoria's house? Peter gets the information from Victoria

ICE Disses FBI, Consequences: Another 9/11?

The dispute has resulted in major terrorism cases being dropped or ignored by ICE agents, so as to avoid working with FBI agents.Source: The Aviation NationWhen the 9/11 Congressional Report was released in June of 2003 it was revealed that “issues” within the CIA and FBI lead to their failure to heed “repeated warnings that al Qaeda intended to strike inside the United States.”The report concluded that in the months before the hijacking, the FBI and CIA did not comprehend the gravity and imminent nature of the threat inside the United States and failed to assess all of the available information about the risk of an attack. The Law of Unintended Consequences
The law strikes again, as it does with most government actions. The unintended adverse affect is frequently much worse than the intended affect of the government. I heard this little tidbit on WBEN this morning. Pedestrians walking during the early evening are three times more likely to be killed by a car when daylight savings time is in effect. Tonight, or technically tomorrow morning, at 2 am is the time for setting your clocks back an hour. Srija bearing all the costs and consequences
The common topic among friends groups, households, media, web from the past 10 days is Srija- Sirish and ofcourse Chiranjeevi. This topic is indeed in the air. Let’s now discuss a lill deeper to their case. To be precise, how is the pair managing the financial expenses?? You must have already started breaking your heads like many of us are doing especially about the legal expenses(the Lawyer fees and so on). The thought process seems complicated but the answer is simple.Sources say that Pinky Anand, the lawyer of Srija-Sirish is charging them no fee at all(free..free..free). And this surely is raising quite a few eyebrows.1.Why is the lawyer soo interested in ‘this’ case that she’s charging them nothing. She supposrts saying that she’s a Lawyer fighting for human rights.[ Must be a supporter of Love and believes in Social Service. Can the Subaltern Speak?: On Otherness and its Consequences - Call for Papers
Tenth Annual Graduate Student Research ConferenceDepartment of Sociology and Equity Studies in Education, OISE/UTCan the Subaltern Speak? On Otherness and its Consequences“What I am calling for, against either universalism or cultural relativism, is politics that is premised on closer encounters, on encounters with those who are other than 'the other' or 'the stranger'. Such a politics based on encounters between other others is one bound up with responsibility - with recognising that (labouring)relations between others are always constitutive of the possibility of either speaking or not speaking. It is the work that needs to be done to get closer to others in a way that does not appropriate their labour as ‘my labour’, or their talk as ‘my talk’, that makes possible a different form of collective politics. The 'we' of such a collective politics is what must be worked for, rather than being the foundation of our collective work.” (Sarah Ahmed, 2000)“The Other does no

The Truth And Consequences About Alcohol
Drinking responsibly can be a fun part of your social life. But do you know the truth about alcohol risks, and what consequences they can bring? 1、Alcohol is nearly as addictive as Cocaine. An estimated 17 percent of cocaine users become addicted to it, and drinkers follow closely at 15 percent. Of the other drugs: marijuana, 9 percent; heroin, 25 percent; nicotine, 32 percent. 2、Drinking is not best way to enhance sexual experiences. Going by the numbers, the drawbacks of combining alcohol with sex outweigh the benefits. Women with impaired judgment are more likely to engage in sexual behaviors they later regret, especially regarding whom they slept with or what they consented to. Worse yet, compromised judgment can put a woman in a dangerous sexual situation. For both men and women, the likelihood of unprotected sex also rises with alcohol use, increasing incidences of unwanted pregnancy and STDs, including, of course, HIVOn the upside, alcohol does relax social and sexual inhib

The Consequences of Johnson City's Morality Play
Yesterday the Johnson City Press published names, photos, and addresses of forty men caught in a sex sting at two local parks. I wrote in my blog that I thought the public shaming seemed excessive. That was an understatement. In today's paper we read that one of those accused apparently took his own life. Here is the article. One comment on yesterday's post wondered if this amounts to a public stoning. I do not think that is an exaggeration. What is the penalty for disorderly conduct and indecent exposure? Are these not misdemeanors? One hundred hours of community service? The Johnson City Press decided that these particular misdemeanors were far worse. They deserved a public shaming. A shaming so overwhelming for this one individual that he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. I am ashamed of Johnson City today. They could have handled this issue of sex in parks without ruining lives. My message to the 40 or so men who were arrested and their families is t

Now the Navy will spend $600,000 to redesign the landscape and buildings to change it’s appearance from the air and on Internet mapping systems. Another related post details the various rooftop advertising around the country also now visible on Google Maps.

      Consumer Consequences
I always have been interested in environmental issue, so “How Many Earths Would it Take to Sustain You?” from Consumerism Commentary caught my attention. From his blog, I went to Consumer Consequences; and according to the site: “The Earth couldn’t supports its 6.6 billion residents if everyone lived like a typical American. Consumer Consequences will tell you how many planets it would take to support your lifestyle on a planetary scale and provide some ideas for making your “footprint” a little smaller.” After I completed the game, I was disappointed to learn that it would take 5.4 earths to sustain my consumption habits. Here are the areas of impact, and higher numbers are worse for the environment: Food (11) — I think it must be because I do not prepare my own lunch. I also like to drink coffee and beer, which seems to have big environmental impact — e.g., transportation, manufacturing, etc. Transportation (5) — I driv

      EMAIL TAMPERING - THE CONSEQUENCES

We can only provide a hypothesis as to what may have, could have, might have happened when Ms Penny Mellor made her infamous complaint against Ms Blakemore Brown to the British Psychological Society. "The first barrister in 800 years to be jailed for perverting the course of justice has been sentenced to 12 months. Bruce Hyman, previously a TV and radio producer, fabricated evidence during a custody case which involved him sending an email purporting to be from the support group Families Need Fathers to the father in a case fighting for custody of his child. The email included a fictitious legal precedent and supported the father’s claim that he should be granted greater access to his daughter.
