It's five years since the invasion of Iraq. Whatever the rights and wrongs of the invasion and the premise on which it was based, allied forces are still there, and still have a job to do there. The BBC has been running a series of films before Newsnight in the countdown to the anniversary. I haven't watched them, but the one tonight is the one I am making a point of seeing. Kenneth Branagh is portraying Tim Collins, at the time of the invasion a Lieutenant Colonel in the Royal Irish Regiment, addressing his troops on the eve of the invasion. I remember reading the speech, transcribed by a reporter. It was amazing stuff. On the drive home from work this afternoon I heard Branagh's delivery. Perfect.There's a clip over here.
