      Dangerous Concerts
First of all, I would never go to a Fugazi concert! A friend of ours went back in the nineties. He said there was blood flying in the audience because of the violent moshing. I found a youtube clip, but the crowd doesn't look that crazy. I'm still not taking any chances though!  LOL     Anyway, Mr P and I went to a Jane's Addiction concert in the nineties;   The opening band was Lush, and I really like them. So I was having a good time. Then, when Jane's Addiction came out on stage and the band started to play, the whole place broke into a wild frenzy! The show was at an arena and we were on the floor, towards the front. Mr. P is quite tall, 6'1".  I was standing directly in front of him. He picked me up, and backed up through the crowd until we found a calme

WSJ - "Earth Month" GreenWashing Concerts (carbon credits=scam)
Green "GREED" Concerts: Hot Music & Hot Air  The music industry is jumping on the green bandwagon, offering environmentally friendly packaging and even low-carbon tours. Another trend is buying carbon offsets. But its effect is, well, up in the air. Rocker Jack Johnson is offering concert-goers the opportunity to buy carbon offsets to negate the environmental impact of their travels to his shows this summer. The arenas he plays will have to meet certain standards, including the use of energy-efficient lightbulbs. "When you look at the carbon footprint of a tour, at least 75% of it is from fans traveling to and from the shows," says Brian Allenby of Reverb, The Dave Matthews Band, Mr. Allenby says, bought offsets to counteract the 1,000 tons of carbon-dioxide emissions

Rock Concerts Aren’t The Same When You’re a Parent
Saturday was the day we finally saw The Wiggles in concert, and from the way my daughter had been acting all last week, you’d think she’s been waiting to go since the day she was born. She was talking about it to everybody she came in contact with –- the sitter “I go to see THE WIGGLES!” The neighbors “Daddy taking me to see THE WIGGLES!!” The weird lady at Trader Joes that always smells (and maybe licks) the fruit “I going to see THE WIGGLES!” To the dog “woof, woof, woof…THE WIGGLES!!!”When they finally came on stage she screamed like a Japanese schoolgirl meeting Hello Kitty for the first time and absolutely REFUSED for the wife or I to pick her up. So while competitors launch "traditional" online stores (PlayNow for SonyEricsson), the Finns teamed up with Universal Music Group to offer "Come With Music" packages : a sexy name for a classic hardware + 12 month subscription package... except the service is unlimited music downloads, and the mobile operator is out of the loop.Orange Music Store eventually tries to catch up with the Vodafone platform, but at the same moment SFR Live Concerts puts the bar one notch higher. Vivendi must have noticed that the business models of music majors are changing, that album / track sales go down while live events and merchandizing go up.

My Top 10 Concerts Of 2007
I feel like I go to less and less concerts every year. And still, I go to way more than I deserve to probably. I was browsing around the music blogosphere today and saw some damned impressive best concerts listings and debated whether or not I would even throw my hat into that ring this year. But, I gotta do it anyway, despite some big challenges when it comes to live music in 2007. Challenge #1 is living in Cincinnati. It is a shame, but there are not alot of national acts that make their way here compared to many other cities around the country, or even Columbus and Louisville for that matter. And in the past, I have made a few trips to both Cbus and Louisville, but this year, I just didn’t. I can put that on the fact that I am still a family man at heart, with a wife and three boys, bouncing to Newport is tough enough at times. On the positive side though this year, I did get to experience Bonnaroo for the first time, and am very happy I got to see acts like The Police,

She sang very well too. The conductor of Simfonika in Marko Fabiani, also the Associate Concertmaster of Symphony Orchestra RTV Slovenia. I think he is very good conductor and musician! The following is a composition of arguments made by critics and fans of music since the early days of both live and studio recordings.Let's first cut to the question we ultimately want to get answered in this article. Which is better, seeing a group live or listening to one of their studio albums?Well, to answer that it first needs to be pointed out that the question of better in itself may not even be the definitive answer. A live performance may be better than a studio album, worse than one or simply a different experience depending on what you are trying to get out of it.If you're a purest who wants to hear your favorite group's songs done exactly as they were done on record then more likely than not you will probably be disappointed. Why? Well, there are several things that factor into t

Pops concerts from the orchestra perspective
Grant Park Symphony bassist John Floeter recently wrote a post about the difference in audience and orchestra enjoyment of pops concerts. Reflecting on a summer concert with The Decemberists, he writes:I've played lots of rock concerts in the backup orchestra, and usually it's a very uncomfortable experience with repetitive parts, deafening sound despite earplugs, and probably worst of all; the feeling that what I play doesn't matter. But I try to suck it up and go on. I'm a hired gun. Do the job you're getting paid to do, or just get out of this business.I can't exactly cherry-pick the kinds of concerts I'll play. What I play with GPO is part of the whole package of their season, and my profession for that matter. I try to steer my schedule to the kinds of concerts that I enjoy playing, and on some level, I do enjoy playing "pops" concerts like this one. But when someone asks me a direct question out of the blue about whether I'm looking forward to the concert with the famous

Short and informal concerts - good move for musicians?
I just read an interesting post on Joshua Nemith's Cincinnati Pianist Blog about the benefits of scheduling shorter and more informal concerts, like concerts at a patron's home or other such intimate venue. Josh mentions having participated in these sort of events for different organizations in the past, and he highlights some of the benefits of these events:1) Audience/donor/musician connections. Today it’s all about breaking down that wall between the stage and the first row. Events like this let musicians get to know their audience members, and audience members get to know the musicians they see week after week on stage. It is also important for musicians (or any other artists) to learn about the people in their communities who can financially support artistic institutions. Those connections can lead to new endeavors or programs that enrich the arts scene of any town or city.2) Special musical opportunities for working musicians. There are not too many people in our field who w

Concerts in July in Puerto Rico
July is a busy month for music here in Puerto Rico, with headliners such as Gwen Stafani and English Pop duo Erasure topping the bill. So here is a list of some of the concerts taking place in July: White Lion at The Arena on Friday, July 6, 2007 This is a band that I have never heard before, but apparently White Lion were a hard rock band that were around in the 1980s and early 1990s. They were formed in New York City in 1983 by Danish-born vocalist Mike Tramp and guitarist Vito Bratta. I am not sure what the current line-up is for this concert. (more…)

A 3rd Dimension to Live Concerts
A recent concert by local bands in Denver, Bad Weather California, Born in the Flood and Meese played a very unusual gig.The abandoned warehouse they performed in is the studios of Internet video outfit ManiaTV, which streamed the performance live via its Internet TV network. The live video stream was only the second dimension to this concert. What made this Denver concert different is that it was also simulcasted in the popular virtual world Second Life. This concert was an attempt to merge the three platforms--live, Internet and virtual world--into one common experience. According to Tantra World Wide, who conceived of and produced the Denver event, the goal was to be totally seamless through the three platforms. Multiple camera angles were used for the Internet stream on ManiaTV and a special Second Life "cam" was used to splice the shots of the different bands' avatars performing in the virtual world. At the same time, for viewers jamming to the concert in one of the 25 venues wit

      Choir concerts.
Mallory and I went to Kayley’s choir concert, along with my parents, on Thursday night. It sure brought back memories for me and my folks - they sat through many a performance when I was in school, since I was in choir from 6th through 10th grades! I know most of you won’t be interested in this - but maybe some of you who know Kayley will - here is her group. They’re first year singers, and I thought they did a pretty decent job! Here’s one of the songs they did. I was impressed that they learned a whole song in Spanish! Of course, they probably have no idea what they’re singing about, but still: Now here’s what surprised me. This is the 8th grade choir, and it’s a group you actually have to audition for. That alone, along with the fact that you expect the higher grade to sound better than the lower grades, simply because they’re more mature and have more singing experience, made me think they were really going to wow us. They didn&rsqu
