I have been a Blackberry user for the last 2 years and for the most part have nothing but good things to say about it. The only downside to the service is the huge extra monthly fee to use the Blackberry service. With my cell phone provider it cost me $40 extra per month for a sufficient data plan to send and receive email as well as surf the web. That is a LOT of money. So, after my contract expired I have been looking around for a cell phone and plan that would still allow me to receive email and surf the web.
I think I have found the answer. It is Palm’s newest treo-like device, the Centro.

While at the Toronto Search Engine Strategies conference a few weeks ago I had the opportunity to attend a discussion about the potential for malicious SEO practices, held by employees of the big 4 (Yahoo / Google / Ask / Microsoft).
There was a general consensus between the search engines that although malicious / negative search engine optimization could work in concept, they have never encountered a specific case of it. Furthermore, the representatives were sure to point out that there is always that chance that a negative SEO campaign could have the exact opposite of the desired effect, as building more links to site, even if they come from a "bad area", could have a positive net effect on rankings.

A competitor can point a lot of links to your site from sites that are known as linkfarms. It gives Google the impression that your site is using paid links to rank and it can cause a penalty. According to Matt Cutts this is not impossible to do, but takes effort.

Also known as “reverse SEO”. You create content and pages targetting your competitor’s keywords in order to make him disappear from the top results.

When Google gets notified that a website is using copyrighted content illegally, by law they have to remove the website from their index for 10 days. Within those 10 days the copyright owner needs to file a suit. This is something I didn’t know.

In a recent post on Techcruch, site founder Micheal Arrington just unleashes on an unexpecting new start-up.
Apparently someone affiliated (Maura Landry) with the new dead pool member start-up Panraven submitted a story to Techcrunch hoping to get some press. Well things could not have gone worse. The start-up is a Flickr competitor that claims to be killing them, but in the email they spell Flickr as Flicker with an E. Well for some reason Mr. Arrington has issues with adding “e’s” by accident, probably an over site considering the person spelled the word by the dictionary. But in Micheal’s defense it is a corporation and thier name is spelled “Flickr” but come on, why ream the guy for the misspelling. Its the internet people spell almost everything worng;). Techcrunch’s post are not immaculate either so who knows why he freaked on that one.

I can search for books in English or books written in the 2oth century but not for both at once... Many web sites today are reporting that NBC Universal and News Corp have announce a deal to create their own video site that will compete with YouTube and contain exclusive content from both companies. In addition to these companies working together to create this new video service, they have also partnered with AOL, MSN, MySpace, and Yahoo! This may very well be the largest Internet video distribution service. It will be interesting how this all turns out. I do like the fact that many of the TV networks are streaming shows on the Internet now like CBS, Fox, and NBC. As with all good products, Digg gets copies. Netscape memorably tried this, resulting in an onslaught of Diggdom criticism. Quite rightly too; it was a blatant rip off.
