For the most part, the Secret Invasion tie-in issues continue to surpass the story that Bendis is giving us over on Secret Invasion itself. I expect much of the same with Mighty Avengers #16. In this issue we will learn how Electra got replaced by a Skrull. Considering that I have always felt that Electra should have stayed dead after Frank Miller had Bullseye kill her, I have no problem with her
The Revolution always enjoys the newest issue of Captain America. Brubaker is remarkably consistent on this title. There are few titles currently on the market that are delivering such a complex and intriguing tale as what Brubaker is giving us on Captain America. I am confident that Captain America #40 should be another fine read. Let’s hit this review.Creative TeamWriter: Ed BrubakerArtist: St
The Revolution is ready to start sampling the various Final Crisis tie-in issues that DC has in store for us. I loved Final Crisis: Requiem #1. And next up is Final Crisis: Rogues Revenge #1. I am confident that this should be a quality read. It is Geoff Johns writing the Rogues and various other characters associate with the Flash. What more could you ask for? Let’s go ahead and do this review.
The last issue of Trinity was another average read. However, this is a weekly title so I am willing to give Busiek a little time to get this story rolling. The Revolution is enjoying Final Crisis, so I figured that I would sample some of DC’s Final Crisis tie-in issues. Hopefully, DC can deliver tie-in issues that are as entertaining as the Secret Invasion tie-in issues that Marvel has given us. Final Crisis: Requiem #1 deals with the death of Martian Manhunter. I have always loved J’onn’s character and I am looking forward to what hopefully wi
The Revolution continues to be summarily unimpressed by Secret Invasion itself, but completely entertained by the Secret Invasion tie-in issues. Secret Invasion itself has been a slow, lumbering, predictable and somewhat boring read over the first three issues. Hopefully, Bendis might actually engage in a little bit of plot development and finally kick this story into gear. Let’s go ahead and hi
Johns continues to crank out a fantastic read with this current story arc. Justice Society of America is one of DC’s more dependable and consistently good titles. I am looking forward to seeing just what Johns plans to do with Gog. I am confident that Justice Society of America #17 will be a strong read. Let’s do this review.Creative TeamStory: Geoff Johns & Alex RossWriter: Geoff JohnsPen
The Revolution continues to find Trinity to be nothing more than an average read. However, it is still too early to give up on this weekly title. I am willing to give Trinity to issue #15 before I think about dropping this title. Despite the fact that I like Busiek, I am getting that nagging feeling that Trinity may begin to read more like Countdown than 52. Maybe Busiek will get me more excited a
Despite the shipping issues that plagued Astonishing X-Men, The Revolution still enjoyed Whedon and Cassaday’s run on this title. I am sad to see Whedon go but happy that Warren Ellis has been tapped to follow Whedon on this title. I have always been a big fan of Ellis and am confident that he will continue Astonishing X-Men’s trend of being a quality read. Let’s go ahead and hit this review
The Revolution has absolutely loved Batman RIP. Morrison has exceeded my expectation with this story arc. In fact, I am enjoying Batman RIP more than either Secret Invasion or Final Crisis. Morrison is treating us to such an incredibly well written story. The Lit major in me is so impressed with Morrison’s writing skills. I am positive that Morrison will turn in another well crafted issue with B
The Revolution has really enjoyed Millar’s run on Fantastic Four. It is surprising that this title is not posting higher sales numbers than it is. At any rate, Fantastic Four #558 should be a fun read as we kick off a new story arc that involves Doctor Doom. I am sure that Millar will deliver a quality read. The Revolution was less than impressed with the last issue of Trinity. This weekly title is not off to a great start. After having to suffer through Countdown, I will admit that I am a bit gun shy concerning DC’s new weekly title. I do think that Trinity has the potential to be a pretty good story, but it appears that we are not going to get much more than a pedestrian read. Hopefully, Busiek ca
The Revolution was pleasantly surprised with Marvel 1985 #1. The debut issue was better than I expected. Millar has a great story on his hands that has the potential to be something pretty special. Captain America is tacos in the bank. This title is always an excellent read. Captain America #39 should be entertaining as we get to see Bucky cross paths with the 1950’s Captain America. The Revolution has been highly unimpressed with Superman for quite some time and has not even bothered to post a review for this title in a while. However, I have been anxiously awaiting Superman #677 as James Robinson arrives on this title to take over the writing duties. I am a big fan of Robinson and have faith that he will craft a strong read on this title. Let’s go ahead and hit this review
The Secret Invasion tie-in issues continue to be strong reads. I get much more excited for the newest issue of New Avengers and Mighty Avengers than I do the newest issue of Secret Invasion itself. Mighty Avengers #15 deals with one of Marvel’s whipping boys, Hank Pym. I did not like that Bendis continued to pile on more misery on Pym’s character by revealing him to be a Skrull. Still, I am su
For the most part, Bendis has rocked the Secret Invasion tie-in issues. New Avengers #42 goes all the way back to New Avengers #1 and shows the reader how the Skrulls have influenced Bendis’ Avengers over the past several years. I am confident that this should be a rather gripping read. Let’s go ahead and hit this review for New Avengers #42.Creative TeamWriter: Brain Michael BendisPencils: Ji
The Revolution completely enjoyed Final Crisis #1. Too bad that the sales numbers reflect that not many comic book readers share my enthusiasm over this title. Now, there is probably no way that I will not love Final Crisis #2. I am a huge Barry Allen fan. I was just a little kid when DC killed Barry and I was completely and totally traumatized. Barry’s death was the first one I experienced in m
The Revolution has been disappointed in the Justice League of America ever since Meltzer left this title. It is unfortunate, but it appears that DC views this title as nothing more than a vehicle to shill for stories that are to take place on other comic books. DC really needs to make a serious effort to revive their flagship team title. Hopefully, McDuffie can get this title back on track with Ju
The Revolution just cannot get into the post-Mephisto recton Amazing Spider-Man. When Dan Slott writes the title it is at least an average read. However, when the other writers switch in this title becomes practically unreadable. I found last issue of Amazing Spider-Man truly awful. I have a feeling that I will get “treated” to more of the same with Amazing Spider-Man #563. Let’s go ahead an
Superman/Batman is a title that The Revolution has not bothered to review in a long time. And that is because this title became a pretty ordinary read for a while. However, Michael Green and Mike Johnson have done an impressive job reviving this title and making it a quality read. The current story arc dealing with Superman and Batman on a mission to rid the Earth of every single piece of Kryptonit
The Revolution has been disappointed with the Flash ever since Johns left the title right before Infinite Crisis. DC has continually bungled the handling of this title. However, I have to admit that Tom Peyer has done a decent job trying to steady the ship. The last issue was actually a solid read. Hopefully, that trend will continue with Flash #241. Let’s do this review.Creative TeamWriter: Tom
The Revolution was highly impressed with Guardians of the Galaxy #1. DnA hit a monster home run with the debut issue. The first issue had everything that a writer is supposed to deliver in a debut issue in order to hook the reader. We got action, adventure, numerous plotlines, and good dialogue all wrapped up in a story that moved at an enjoyable pace. There is no doubt in my mind that Guardians o
All right, the numbers are finally in concerning Secret Invasion #2 and Final Crisis #1. Now, I never use sales numbers as a basis for the quality of a comic book. It is merely an indicator of the popularity of a comic book. And that is important since the amount of money a title generates dictates the creative direction of that title as well as how long a life that title possesses. And the fact i
Wolverine is a title that has not impressed The Revolution in a very long time. It is hard to believe that my interest has cooled so much in Wolverine’s character. Back when I was a kid, Wolverine was easily one of my favorite characters right up there with Iron Man. I have a full run of Wolverine’s title and have been purchasing this title out of nothing but sheer loyalty in the past several
I like Wolverine. I’m not absolutely obsessed with the character. He’s the Britney Spears of the Marvel U, overexposed as all get out. But when a writer does something interesting with him — apart from emphasizing how he tends to leave off the “g” at the end of present participle verbs — it’s easy to [...]
The Revolution is rather neutral on Trinity at the moment. The first two issues have not been terrible, but they haven’t been anything special either. This story has been slightly above average. And a weekly title cannot be just a slightly above average read. I still think that Trinity has plenty of potential to be an entertaining read and Busiek is a talented writer. To say that The Revolution has been less than impressed with the first two issues of Titans is being generous. Winick has turned in an embarrassing performance so far on this title despite the fact that he has the ultimate roster of former Teen Titans to work with. I have very little hopes that Winick will be able to put together a well crafted read with Titans #3. I would be happy if Winick could
The Revolution thoroughly enjoyed Newuniversal: Shockfront #1. Ellis managed to completely hook me into this story with the last issue. Booster Gold has been a gem of a title. However, I am curious to see how Johns and Katz can extricate them from the corner that they have painted themselves into with the Ted Kord storyline. The Revolution was clearly devastated by the news that the Knaufs were not returning to Iron Man: Director of SHIELD. My pain was eased a bit with the fact that I would still be able to enjoy the Knaufs work over on the Eternals. I was not all that impressed with Gaiman’s Eternals mini-series. Hopefully, the Knaufs can get me more excited about the Eternals with this new monthly than the mini-se
The Revolution has been looking forward to the Brainiac story arc for a while. Brainiac has always been one of my favorite Superman villains. Of course, since this is a Johns title I fully understand that this set-up issue will b
The Revolution found the debut issue of Trinity to be a solid, but not spectacular read. I do think that Busiek has a clearly laid out story and purpose in mind with Trinity. Nova continues to be an enjoyable read that appears to be flying under the radar with many comic book readers. Nova #14 looks to treat the reader to a conflict between Nova and the Silver Surfer. The Revolution found Invincible Iron Man #1 to be a completely serviceable read that was new reader friendly and looked more to the Iron Man movie for its source material than Iron Man’s comic book continuity. Fraction offered up plenty of action and adventure in a story that was fun, but no where near as intriguing or original as what the Knaufs have given us over on Iron Man: Director of SHIEL
The past couple of issues of Justice Society of America have been fantastic. Johns is white hot at the moment and is making this title a riveting read. The Revolution is going to let DC suck us back into yet another weekly title. Yeah, Countdown stunk on ice, but you would think that would mean DC has learned their lesson and will put forth a strong effort to make Trinity a good read. The Revolution is not having the best morning. It stated out well enough. The kitchen was full of the wonderful warm aromas of fresh media lunas and Café Bustelo. Ever since the end of Messiah Complex, Uncanny X-Men has been a solid, but certainly not spectacular, read. I am beginning to get the nagging feeling that Brubaker does not know where to go with this title in the wake of Messiah Complex. Uncanny X-Men appears to be losing some of its focus. And that is unusual for a Brubaker penned title. Hopefully, Brubaker can bring Uncanny X-Men up to his high
Bendis continues to do a fine job on the Secret Invasion tie-in issues. The Revolution by far and away finds the tie-in issues more captivating than the actual story itself over on Secret Invasion. Final Crisis #1 is finally here. I have been anxiously awaiting this issue. I am confident that Morrison is going to deliver a wonderfully crafted read on this title. It is simply the nature of the beast. At any ra

Justice League of America continues to disappoint The Revolution. It seems that the main purpose of this title is to set up stories that are going to take place in other comic books, whether it is Tangent: Reign of Superman or Salvation Run. Not much effort has been placed on crafting actual plotlines for Justice League of America itself. And it looks like Justice League of America #21 is going to

Let’s go ahead and hit this review for New Avengers #40.Creative TeamWriter: Brain Michael BendisPencils: Jim CheungInks: John DellArt Rating: 7 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 7.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with the e
DC Universe #0 is supposed to give the reader a sneak peak at the upcoming events in Action Comics, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and Final Crisis. Needless to say, this should be an interesting read. I’m curious to see if DC can rebound from the dismal failure known as Countdown to Final Crisis and manage to get readers excited about Final Crisis. Justice League of America has lost much of its luster as DC has reduced it mainly as a platform to shill for storylines to be delivered in other titles. It appears that Justice League of America #20 is going to be a pure filler issue as we get a one and done story featuring Flash and Wonder Woman. I don’t really expect much from this issue. Let’s go ahead and do this review.Creative TeamWriter: Dwayne McDuffieArtist: Ethan Van SciverArt Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 4 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 6.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with the Flash streaking onto the scene of a huge fire. The Revolution has found the Hulk to be a bit lacking in substance. I dig McGuinness’ artwork, but the writing has been unimpressive. Even though I wasn’t all that thrilled with much of the last issue, I have to admit that the ending totally hooked me. Seeing Rick Jones alive was a shock, but that was nothing compared to how stunned I was when Rick transformed into the new Abomination. With that ending, Loeb immediately grabbed my attention and got me excited for Hulk #3. With that said, let’s go ahead and hit this review for Hulk #3.Creative TeamWriter: Jeph LoebPencils: Ed McGuinnessInks: Dexter VinesArt Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 5 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 6.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with Iron Man and She-Hulk standing next to the wrec
Back in 1994 when I was in the later half of my Sophomore year of college I got back into comic books. I say back into because when I was about 10 years old I bought every Transformers comic book that ever came out. One day in 1994 I was watching the home shopping network [...]
The Revolution is looking forward to the upcoming “Batman R.I.P.” story arc that Morrison has cooked up for us. Batman #675 is a set-up issue as Morrison begins to set the stage for “Batman R.I.P.” I have a feeling that we will get a pretty entertaining little read with Batman #675. Mighty Avengers continues to be a much better read than New Avengers. And that trend should continue with Mighty Avengers #12. We get treated to a Nick Fury spotlight issue with Mighty Avengers #12. We should learn what role Nick Fury is playing in the battle against the Skrulls. We are finally here. There were moments when I thought I would not be able to last to the very end. It has been a real struggle to keep chronicling this story as it simply sunk to all new lows with each issue. For as much a success as 52 was, Countdown has been an unmitigated failure. DC gagged up one horribly plotted and paced story with this title. Countdown was a flawed and poorly conceived idea from the start and suffered from lousy execution. And what really gets me is that there appears to be no purpose to this title. Morrison has gone out of his way to state that his Final Crisis has nothing to do with Countdown to Final Crisis. Huh, whaaaat? You mean a comic book entitled “Countdown to Final Crisis” has nothing to do with Final Crisis? That lacks any and all sense. That is eithe
Every big film is basically a $150 million gamble, so studios tend to play it safe and stick to a successful formula. Nowhere is this clearer than in big-budget superhero franchises, where it's been decided that you must follow most if not all of these eight rules.read more | digg story
