Colonoscopy can’t always prevent metastatic liver cancer
Laura’s mother (75) has cancer of the small intestine that spread to her liver. Her mom started having colonoscopy’s at the age of 50 and nothing showed up ever…   Unfortunately a colonoscopy test only looks into the rectum and colon through a long, flexible, narrow tube - the colonoscope. It doesn’t detect anything in the small intestine [...]

      Humor for Colonoscopy Test
Hope you enjoyed it (the description, not the procedure) as much as I did! Everyone needs a little smile on a Wednesday morning! Subject: Dave Barry's Colonoscopy Journal ... I called my friend Andy Sable, a gastroenterologist, to make an appointment for a colonoscopy. A few days later, in his office, Andy showed me a color diagram of the colon, a lengthy organ that appears to go all over the p

Is there a best time to have a colonoscopy?
Some might ask, what is a colonoscopy? Its simply a means of viewing the colon and checking out what is going on inside. Why you might ask should I care what my colon looks like? Everything seems to be working alright. The problem is colon cancer is a growing problem and finding it early can save a lot of lives. So you have decided to have your colon checked, whats the best time of day to do it if you have a choice? In the morning is best as you will be less likely to need a repeat than if its done in the afternoon.Researchers at Mayo Clinic think the time lag between a nightime pretest purge and an afternoon exam may be what causes poorer views for doctors-and the need for retesting. To reduce your odds of having to repeat the uncomfortable prep, schedule a morning test if possible. If

Colonoscopy To Detect The Presence Of Colorectal Cancer!
A colonoscopy is an endoscopic examination of the colon (large intestine) using an instrument called a colonoscope, a small camera attached to a flexible tube. ONE COLONOSCOPY EFFECTIVE IN REDUCING CANCER DEATHS
Just a single colonoscopy could save your life, study suggestsGetting just one colonoscopy might save your life, researchers say.Using a model to predict reductions in death from colorectal cancer, epidemiologists and clinical researchers from Memorial Sloan-Kettering looked at the relative effect of getting just one screening colonoscopy which cleared pre-cancerous polyps from the colon versus surveillance follow-up colonoscopy.Ann G. Zauber, Ph.D., Sidney J. Winawer, M.D., MACG and colleagues presented their findings at the Annual Scientific Meeting of the American College of Gastroenterology.“The model demonstrated a dramatic reduction in expected colorectal cancer mortality with initial polypectomy with or without surveillance, and suggests that the initial polypectomy accounts for the major component of the mortality reduction,” explained Dr. Zauber.Link to complete story: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2007/10/colonoscopy_benefit.html ~Sandy G.

      As Popular As A Colonoscopy
On the day the President made perhaps the best decision he's made in a while, to get his heath checked and get a colonoscopy, we find out that in New Jersey, he's about as popular as one. This from Strategic Vision of all people, and they tend to overstate Republican support.Bush at 18% in a state where he won 46% two and a half years ago. Bush's one bright side is that 47% of state voters still approve of the job he's doing on the War on Terrorism.Congress is at 16% and only 20% approve of the President's handling of the war in Iraq. 59% want out in the next six months.I didn't even think I'd find these polls in New York...If this is how things are in Jersey, I wonder how it is east of the Hudson?

      My First Colonoscopy
I'd postposed this procedure twice, but finally got it done yesterday. And, now as with all new converts, I am proselytizing.Get yourself tested to determine if you are at risk of various colo-rectal problems, including cancer. Check out this informative Web site:http://www.webmd.com/colorectal-cancer/Colonoscopy-16695Other than making up your mind to have exam, the hardest part is prepping the day before, when you drink a fluid designed to, shall we say, "clean out your system." Then there's no eating until after the exam the next day. The procedure was relatively brief and very much painless as I was admnistered a sedative intravenously. I'll do this again in five years.

      “white wine during colonoscopy?”
Google is king. Everyone uses it. We bloggers, likewise, use Google Analytics to see if anyone at all ever, even inadvertently, clicks on a word out there in the Webosphere and lands at our blog. Not only that, but Google shows you all kinds of things about these people, like their home address, dirtiest laundry item, medicine chest contents and pet vaccination schedules. Most entertaining to me lately has been the keyword search that led someone to my site. Many pertain to questions about colonoscopies due to this post. Apparently, I was not alone in wondering about drinking WHITE wine while preparing for a colonoscopy (no red liquids, you know). A friend smarter than I recommended jello shots. Some curious George even asked Google about “white wine during colonoscopy?” to which I would say, extremely difficult if you don’t like drooling and spillage. Although a former EMT I marriedknow suggested you could if you get it in your IV (since it is similar in color

Microscopic colitis may be misdiagnosed as diarrhea predominant irritable bowel syndrome if colonoscopy and intestinal biopsies are not done.
Just published from the Mayo Clinic is a study that indicates that there is a significant overlap of the symptoms of IBS and microscopic colitis. In a group of biopsy proven microscopic colitis patients, the authors noted that approximately half had symptoms that would have met diagnostic criteria for irritable bowel syndrome. Symptom-based criteria for diagnosing IBS are not specific enough to rule out microscopic colitis. They state "patients with suspected diarrhea predominant irritable bowel syndrome should undergo biopsies of the colon to investigate further for possible microscopic colitis if symptoms are not well controlled by antidiarrheal therapy" The diagnosis is made by intraepithelial lymphocytosis only seen under the microscope when the colon on the surface looks normal. Many doctors don't biopsy the colon when it looks normal despite the patient having a history of diarrhea. Microscopic colitis is a known treatable cause of such symptoms that can only be diagnosed
