If you look hard enough, there are little details in recent BSG episodes that either give a crucial glimpse of where the saga is going — or they show that fans have an overactive imagination."[via io9]

      Flu clues!
A few weeks ago the US National Institute of Health revealed the reason we all get the flu when it gets cold outside. They've found that "the virus's outer covering, or envelope, hardens to a rubbery gel that could shield the virus as it passes from person to person." However, when it gets warmer "the protective gel melts to a liquid phase" which is not strong enough to stick around for very long. Without an envelope the virus is left naked and not very effective. Moral of the story, skip the flu shot and head south for the winter. Can't go south? Turn up the heat indoors, wash your hands often with warm water, and get yourself a heated face mask! Cloverfield 1-18-08 - Roar, Trailer, Clues!
Cloverfield (aka 1-18-08) still won't be out until January 18, 2008, but the hype is growing. The Cloverfield website is also growing, but very slowly. Here's what I mean: on the Cloverfield website there are photos - and nothing else! A new photo is added approximately every week. And take note: you will not find a Cloverfield trailer, the synopses of what Cloverfield will be about, or any AIM icons, poster, or other downloads. No movie wallpaper either! You will not even find the names of actors, director, or producer (note - it is produced by JJ Abrams if you were wondering). So what's up with the website? On the bottom right hand corner of each Cloverfield photo, there is a date stamp of 1/18/08 followed by a time stamp. You are supposed to use these photos to find clues about the movie (the movie is so top-secret that the first official Cloverfield trailer shown before the movie Transformers didn't even officially release the name, just the date 1-18-08). Stress: Brain Yields Clues About Why Some Succumb While Others Prevail
Discovery of resistance mechanisms in mouse brain may lead to help for stress-related mental illness in humansResults of a new study may one day help scientists learn how to enhance a naturally occurring mechanism in the brain that promotes resilience to psychological stress. Researchers funded by the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) found that, in a mouse model, the ability to adapt to stress is driven by a distinctly different molecular mechanism than is the tendency to be overwhelmed by stress. The researchers mapped out the mechanisms — components of which also are present in the human brain — that govern both kinds of responses. In humans, stress can play a major role in the development of several mental illnesses, including post-traumatic stress disorder and depression. A key question in mental health research is: Why are some people resilient to stress, while others are not? This research indicates that resistance is not simply

Scientists Find Clues To Crack "Neural Code" of The Brain
Decoding the complex electrical signals that brain cells use to "talk" to each other is a new and important frontier in neuroscience, one that could revolutionize the diagnosis and treatment of neurological and psychiatric disease. Now, a multicenter team, led by a researcher at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City, says they have uncovered a vital clue to help decode that neural language. The groundbreaking work is published in Nature."We discovered that the specific timing of these electrical pulses is crucial to interpreting how the neural code works as the brain represents what it sees in the natural environment. Understanding the 'time scales' that matter to the brain gives us insight into which units of the neural code we need to focus on if we ever hope to decode it," explains lead author Dr. Daniel A. 5 clues that a tennis match is fixed.
Given the recent focus on fixed matches on the ATP tour, I thought I'd write a piece about some of the signs of a fixed match.  This is by no means an exhaustive list, just 5 pointers to raise suspicions and importantly - raise enough doubt for those of us that bet on tennis to give it the swerve. 1 & 2, "Irregular betting patterns" before the match begins.  Most fixed matches will involve an amount of money being put down before it begins.  This is when liquidity should be at it's strongest - the odds being based on form, surface, physical condition, head to heads etc.  Liquidity being provided by bookmakers and betting exchanges, there's plenty of scope for a lot of money to be wagered on many different websites. Things you should look for are; Larger than normal movements in odds.  Not just on who will win the match, but sometimes in the set score markets too.  It's fairly common for a player to be told to work towards a 3 set matc

      Clues to Philippine prehistory
24 August 2007 (The Inquirer) - Columnist Ambeth Ocampo writes about the ceramics, commonly trade ceramics, found in Philippines and in Philippine waters. Clues to Philippine prehistory by Ambeth Ocampo MANILA, Philippines — At the start of each semester, when I meet a new class for the first time and go over the syllabus, I watch out for the collective groan that comes when I announce that a visit to the National Museum is required. For many college students who had to endure a grade school trip to the museum, going there a second or third time is considered cruel and unusual punishment. This mind-set is not the fault of the museum; it is the fault of the teacher or museum guide who did not infect the students with a sense of discovery and appreciation of our past. Many of my students complain after visiting the National Museum that they do not want to see another piece of blue-and-white ceramic for the rest of their lives, but they say this because they do not appreciate not ju

Searching for Clues in Washington, D.C.
Something evil, or at least unethical and illegal, is occurring in Washington, D.C. There are documents which implicate the guilty but they cannot be found, and the Bush administration refuses to comply with subpoenas from Congressional investigators. If you were a detective, who would be your number one suspect, and what room would you look in first? The obvious answer is Dick Cheney, and you’ll find the evidence in his office. The Washington Post reports that Cheney’s office has many papers on the warrantless wiretaps: Vice President Cheney’s office acknowledged for the first time yesterday that it has dozens of documents related to the administration’s warrantless surveillance program, but it signaled that it will resist efforts by congressional Democrats to obtain them. The disclosure by Cheney’s counsel, Shannen W. Coffin, came on the day that the Senate Judiciary Committee had set as a deadline for the Bush administration to turn over documents relat

The English Courtesan once again invites the bibliophile readers to guess the name and publication date of the volume from which the illustration came and the story behind it, which is peculiarly relevant to both the Wife's Tale and of course this tag. This is a tag about ‘something interesting you did with books’ which reminded the English Courtesan of her first romantic interlude

The Euro is slightly stronger today despite disappointing economic data. German producer prices increased by a meager 0.1 percent in the month of April compared to the market’s 0.4 percent forecast. The softer inflation number is another piece of evidence that the weakness in the US dollar and the strength of the Euro could discourage the European Central Bank from lifting interest rates beyond June. The reaction in the Euro was relatively muted because the June rate hike has already been fully priced into the market while the PPI number does little to clarify whether the ECB will or will not move again after that. As Trichet indicated last month, they will decide what to do after June in June. Their decision is data dependent and there are a number of key European data that could h

      Austin's Clues
Austin is fascinated with Blues Clues. If you looked at our "on demand" download records at the cable company over the past couple of months, you'd find that about 80% of our requests are Blue's Clues episodes. He watches an episode over and over again until he memorizes it. Then he acts it out. He has a little note pad and a crayon and tries to draw clues then ends up in the recliner, his thinkin' chair.Unfortunately, he got a little over zealous with his clues and one ended up on the living room wall. His timeout didn't make much of an impression. Clue 2 ended up on the wall of one of our bathrooms. I'm really hoping he doesn't finish the episode which would mean that we'll see a third clue.

Survey gives more Google phone clues?
Yes, this would be pretty easy to fake — and even if it’s real, it’s just a survey, which means it’s sorta fake by design — but a questionnaire allegedly received by a Mobileburn forum member hints at specs and a rather fascinating concept design for Google’s probably-in-the-works cellphone. Everything seems believable enough, though it seems like they flip-open QWERTY keypad could be a bit tricky to access from the right side thanks to the permanently-affixed nav buttons; features are said to include 3G data, WiFi, and a 2 megapixel camera Read on… Via: Engadget.com

5 clues that it is time to buy a new bra
Recently my wife replaced all of her bras. Mainly because she has new pretty ones but for more practical reasons as well. We talk alot about when is the proper time to replace a bra. I have covered this topic before but it is something that is important enough to talk about again. Most of these suggestions are pretty much common sense to most full figured ladies, but it never hurts to have a reminder of when its time to replace on of the most important pieces in your wardrobe. Weight Loss If your weight goes up or down by more than ten pounds then there is a high likelihood that your breast will shift causing your bra to not fit right. Have yourself remeasured and properly fitted for maximum support. Worn material At no time should you treat your bra like your favorite shoes or jeans. If you have had the same bra for over a year its time to let it go. If the material is worn, boning is exposed or you have to use a safety pin to fasten it then its time replace it. Spillage If its

European team unexpectedly finds clues to origin of life
Scientists studying RNA interference* (RNAi) (Overview | Animation), a recently discovered phenomenon with wide-ranging implications for biology and health, have stumbled upon what they believe may be an important clue to the origins of life itself. Researchers from Oxford and Helsinki University were studying the mechanism behind RNAi when they noticed that the core of the enzyme responsible for the process was strikingly similar to enzymes responsible for gene expression. Their find sheds light on the function of RNA and helps answers some puzzling questions biologists have faced for years. Biology, and life in general for that matter, exists in a DNA-centred world where DNA holds our genetic information and with it controls how living organisms function. DNA communicates its critical information through the formation of proteins, which in turn carry out the tasks of everyday life. This situation, however, gives rise to a chicken-and-the-egg situation that has long perplexed scientis

SIDE THOUGHT - Blues Clues...Joe or Steve?
Our 22 month old loves, loves the Blues Clues tv show! It started about two weeks ago, he saw his older brother watching it and has been asking for it ever since. The minute we get home, he says, "Bluuuue!" and points to the tv. It is a good show for kids and he is even learning new words from the show. Now, he does not care if it is an episode with Joe or Steve. But I do! I love Steve and I do not like Joe at all. Steve is funny and is obviously "into" the show, but Joe just goes through the motions and is not funny at all. So tend to put on more of the shows with Steve in it then Joe. Afterall, if I have to watch something over and over again(and over and over again!), I should make it as enjoyable for me too, right?UPDATE 1/22/06 Okay, I watched "Blues Clues 10 Year Anniversary" video clip. It confirmed that Steve did quit to pursue a music career but also because as he said, "I did not want to be on a kids tv show with balding hair and it was balding fast." And yes, he was bald when
