Suffering a similar fate as the 45nm quad-core processors, the X48 chipset has slipped from an early Q1 release all the way to March, the last month of the first quarter. Although both the chip and the CPUs have been slated for Q1 and no concrete release has been announced they were supposed to arrive, although in small numbers, as soon as the end of January, a target that has been obviously missed. Whatever the reason, though we suspect the delay of the 3.2 GHz QX9770 to have something to do with this, the 1600 MHz FSB-supporting X48 and motherboards equipped with it will be arriving in March, likely in time to counter Nvidia's nForce 790i products. Intel ha presentado su nuevo chipset Intel X38 - DQ6 y está a punto de llegar al mercado montado en varias placas de distintos fabricantes, no sabemos exactamente la fecha de su lanzamiento pero debe estar muy cerca. Veremos qué novedades incorpora el último chipset de Intel.
Teóricamente el chipset Intel X38 tenía que aportar una excelente capacidad de overclock, pero sin embargo sus retrasos han obligado a los fabricantes a conseguir que los P35 también resulten, en muchos casos, un producto excelente en este campo. Pero una cosa es excelente y la otra es que la placa sea la reina del overclock.
En principio y aunque luego con overclock se pueda subir más, el Intel X38 se queda con soporte oficial a FSB 1.333Mhz y DDR3-1333, en cambio el Intel X48 debería añadir soporte oficial para FSB 1.600Mhz y DDR3-1600 (en la propia caja de este producto reluce un logo de FSB 1.600, así que está claro que de forma no oficial el X38 también soporta FSB 1.600). Los usuarios con los chipsets de Intel 965 ahora tienen a su disposición una nueva serie de drivers que mejorará su rendimiento, especialmente para los juegos en Windows. Este tipo de chipset supuestamente deberían haber traído el nivel gráficos adecuado, pero muchos usuarios han optado por tarjetas de Nvdia o ATI.
