Negative campaigning is a famous phenomenom and it has also been theorized and made into general rules. First, the effect of negative campaigning is that it bumps people into undecided category and therefore its prime impact is not necessarily luring undecideds to your side but to turn your opponent's supporters into undecideds. Second, negative attacks are far more frequent to be done by the trai

That didn't take long.Just one day into the 2008 Mondesi's House Pittsburgh Sports Media Popularity Contest and we already have our first evidence of campaigning.WTAE and ThePittsburghchannel.com bestowed the inaugural poll with its "local site of the day" honor and encouraged their viewers to visit "a certain blog" to vote for their own Jon Burton, who's currently at a solid 66% approval rating.A
fta: "I don't see our campaigns now as respectful of us as learning, thinking beings. They see us as carriers of a message only, messages like "Change we can believe in." And that's pretty pathetic, given that the American system is set up that anyone can be elected President."
More ideas for Chavez electoral strategy. Mugabe has decided that it was unsafe for Morgan Tsvangirai to attend his political rallies:
The party said it had received a written notice from the police that rallies it had planned in impoverished townships of the capital, Harare, would have to be canceled because the safety of party [...]
Questionably blaming Democratic Party divisions for his devastating loss to President Nixon in 1972, George McGovern, who was for Sen. Clinton before he was against her, offers a proposal for joint campaigning that there is no chance the candidates will heed.
I grabbed loads of campaigning snaps on Saturday as most of the candidates were out and about in Crewe town centre. The most high profile were the Lib Dems, as Elizabeth Shenton was joined by Simon Hughes (MP for North Southwark & Bermondsey) and a fantastic splash of colour that moved around the shopping area as one! More of that later. .Instead, with shopping done we headed home but got dis
Finally, "Prince" Mahesh Babu has denied rumours that he would be campaigning for the Congress party in the forthcoming elections. On Sunday, Mahesh Babu clarified that he has no interest whatsoever in politics and therefore the question of campaigning for Congress does not arise. "I do not know the difference between an MP and an MLA. How can I campaign for a political party, when I do not understand the basics of politics?" he asked. There were rumours that the Congress is trying to rope in Mahesh Babu for campaigning, as a counter to Telugu Desam's plan of involving Junior NTR in electioneering. The basis for this rumour could be Mahesh being son of superstar Krishna, who was once a Congress MP and still a Congress sympathizer. Krishna's brother Adiseshagiri Rao is still a Congress leader

Last week, I wrote about poll trends so obvious that it's a wonder they are still called "news:"
[The graphs of support numbers in contested primaries] all show a similar pattern. While the spreads between Obama and Clinton a few weeks or months out were relatively large - 20 to 30 points in some states - as the campaigns headed into election day, the spreads universally shrank.
…
While this idea is fairly obvious, media coverage and general discussion around these primaries has tended to ignore these trends. For example, headlines like "Polls: Obama gains on Clinton in Pa." are extremely misleading. Obama isn't really "gaining" support - if by gaining support you mean convincing Clinton supporters to vote for Obama. Instead, the information people are giving pollsters months befo
The New York Times speculates on what would have happened if Gore-Lieberman taken office in 2000:
Imagine for a moment the Supreme Court had gone the other way in Bush v. Gore in 2000. We would now be in year eight of the Gore-Lieberman administration. Well, maybe not the Lieberman part.

The election fever has struck all the political parties. Everyone is now gearing up to fight the elections with all their might. While the TDP chief Chandra Babu Naidu is lining up all the stars from the Nandamuri family, the congress has already begun its ad campaign in a big way.The ad film feature chief minister YS Rajashekar Reddy and talk about various welfare schemes being undertaken by the government. The congress wants to rope in several actors to add sparkle to its campaign. It is already in news that Mahesh Babu inclined to do a series of ad films for the party with the involvement of Adi Seshagiri Rao. And he is not doing that for fee, is the fresh gossip. Mahesh is reported to have charged a hefty fee for appearing in the ads. Mahesh did an ad for Thumbs up recently. He is said

Bob Sullentrup is running for reelection as Secretary of the Libertarian National Committee. While he has a webpage with the normal sorts of things one might expect from a candidate for internal party office, he's also added some additional reasons to vote for him—and some are quite funny. Here's the list: > As a kid he almost counted to infinity once > He square dances counter-clockwise in the southern hemisphere > He has never seen the headline 'Psychic Wins Lottery' > He has already completed his preparation for Y3K > He always obeys the Law of Gravity > He gets really pissed off at anger management classes > He likes to speak simultaneously with other Bobs, thus creating oral Roberts > He videotapes baseball games without the expressed, written consent of

A new voice joined the criticism of ex-Obama aide Samantha Power for calling Senator Hillary Clinton a “monster."“Calling Senator Clinton a monster is a deep personal insult to me,” said Ben Chapman, who donned a rubber suit to play the creature from the black lagoon in the 1954 horror movie of the same name.“It propagates the false stereotype of monsters as creatures who will do anything to take over and win, when in fact most of us monsters were really just misunderstood and were trying to protect our own turf.”Chapman did however concede one similarity between Senator Clinton and him. “I too had a devil of time squeezing into my outfit each day,” he said.Obama also gained a vote of confidence from a former Clinton White House worker, who decried Senator Clinton’s, “Who

It's a matter of expectations and the big MO (momentum). Hillary's wins may not bring her the nomination (simple delegate maths says no) but she won Texas and Ohio on the back of traditional campaigning and negative campaigning at that. She has the MO now.Although the polls said it was close she raced ahead in Ohio on the back of a gaff about trade issues by the Obama camp - very traditional. And although Obama had by far the slickest operation ever seen technically (see Terry Mancour in today's Guardian), especially compared to Hillary's 'command-control', and has completely changed the rules with fundraising (one million have donated online) that didn't push him over the top in Texas. And expectations about that were raised. He will likely still get there - people who like to bet say it'
I may have mentioned my lack of impress with Ken Livingstone's online campaign for the London mayoralty. The first efforts out the gate broke numerous web norms with the biggest hole being leaving supporters without fightback material against the rapidly building anti-Ken campaign and unexplained requests for money from Labour after it's fundraising scandals. To be a wee bit more positive, here are ten tips culled from the US Primaries experience. They'll be applicable to both Boris and Brian and Siân as well but both of Ken's main challengers are miles ahead already.I am not including the very, very basics such as not relying on images in email to convey information or testing your site for its usability — if you don't get that sort of thing everything here is waaaay too sophisticated.1
Right now, the campaigning tactic seems to be: go to each state, and appeal to that demographic's voters. Change yourself from state to state, to suit each group of people's interests and attitudes. This takes a lot of money to do effectively, as it entails a great deal of travel, paraphernalia, and tons of in-person meetings. Then, when the President is elected, he/she addresses the nation as one, on camera. So here's my thought: A candidate could save money, and make contact with far more voters, by making daily video logs. He could say, "Greetings America," in one, and in another, focus on South Carolina, or New Hampshire, or whatever. It would be fairly inexpensive to add this tactic to a campaign, and yet it has the potential to produce massive results.A poor candidate might focus

Romney's Campaign To Mainstream MormonismRepublican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said yesterday that he hopes to convince voters that his Mormon faith is mainstream."I think as people come to know my faith they'll recognize that the values of my faith are — they very much flow from the Judeo-Christian tradition of this country. I believe in God, I believe in Jesus Christ, I believe in the equality of all humankind," Mr. Romney said in an interview with The Washington Times.Mr. Romney has remained mostly mum on the topic; despite his desire to deliver a speech about his Mormon faith, he has accepted the advice of political aides who advise against the move...The candidate's religion, however, threatens to become a very public campaign issue — and a dangerous one. In a recent Gallup survey, just two-thirds of conservatives said they could support a Mormon candidate.Read Article... Romney Republican Politics
Mark Halperin, a political writer for Time, got a great deal of flack for a recent column in the New York Times. The column, entitled “How ‘What It Takes’ Took Me Off Course,” consists primarily of Halperin sharing the revelation that there is a difference between the campaigning for president and being president. As he says:
For most of my time covering presidential elections, I shared the view that there was a direct correlation between the skills needed to be a great candidate and a great president. The chaotic and demanding requirements of running for president, I felt, were a perfect test for the toughest job in the world.
But now I think I was wrong. The “campaigner equals leader” formula that inspired me and so many others in the news media is flawed.
He then cites both Clinton and Bush as examples of good campaigners who were, at times, terrible at the “being president” thing.
Understandably, many people, myself included, felt the urge to
Ahhh politics. Amazing how there can be numerous issues leading up to an election, only to be dumbed down to one issue for the general populous ( at least where I live ). No wonder there was a record low voter turnout.(c)2007 Johnny Ancich
First and foremost, thank you to all those who watched the video.
I can really get used to this video blogging thing. Haha. Unlike writing a real blog that would require at least 15-30 minutes, making a video (i.e. talking into a camera and microphone) takes half the time. I don’t really have a script and I just tend to think of a general topic - that explains the number of short pauses that came with the first video. I plan to always go with the first take no matter what. Hopefully, I’ll get to stick to that.
For this episode, I talk about the upcoming August 1 event, more shameless campaigning and my passion for competitive with debating. A lot of people find this intimidating and often use this as a sticking point whenever I drive home a point too strongly - and that just shows how hopelessly incapable they are of understanding well-argued, and well-substantiated arguments. For instance, would you believe one particular blogger still continues to be in the dark as far
Like most other Americans, I have had enough with the 2008 presidential election. It’s the prime of summer – just days away from the Fourth of July – and the campaign to become the next president of the United States is in full force.

One thing we can hear from the presidential hopefuls is that of using the ecological approach and adding it to their list of itineraries should they be elected into office. While many see this as a good fact, others are viewing it as an abuse to make it their campaign platform and most are viewing it as unfair and unjust.
So why is it bad for the environment? Well consider the fact that the materials they use and the methods in the campaigning period. But to get more information on how it can be harmful to the environment, let us check out this video clip to get more insights on the matter.

First of all an update on the competition. Due to several requests I have extended the due date until July 1. Several of the ladies who would like to enter will be on holidays, and it seems many others are busy around this time with school ending and the like. I have also given up with the Google spreadsheet, due to some technical issues. So if you are participating, just email me your blog

One of the ways to rescue DC Comics from the current desecration is to campaign for series, limited and ongoing, to be published in trades if they haven't been.
By this, here's a few of the items I'm thinking of. Ones that were published circa 1983-84, and were very well regarded in their time (in fact, there's quite a lot of very notable output during the very time I cite, and what I talk about below is probably just half of it).
Sword of the Atom. this for me is the miniseries I want to see being published in trade paperback format. It's a very recommended item from the mid 80s, a four-part miniseries and three specials, published between 1983-88, that developed a well written change in life for Ray Palmer and Jean Loring. And it could help to show the real story that went on between the two when they got divorced back then, and show why it was Jean who left Ray, and not the other way around, as Identity Crisis faked it. It should be pretty easy to put together into a 17-20
