BuzzMachine: Virginia Tech citizen reportingExcerpt:"CNN just said (at 3p ET on Monday) that already, 900,000 people have watched the video of the scene at Virginia Tech during the mass shooting there, made by student Jamal Albaughouti. (More would have seen it if I could link right to the video or embed it, by the way.) This is the next step after 7/7 and still pictures: video. And the next step at the next big news event: it will be shot and broadcast live from a cellphone."http://www.buzzmachine.com/2007/04/16/virginia-tech-citizen-reporting/Alex

BuzzMachine: Chaos 2.0 Excerpt: "I’m late to this...
BuzzMachine: Chaos 2.0Excerpt:"I’m late to this since my AdAge subscription lapsed, but Bob Garfield (of On the Media and Ad Age) has written an important followup to his seminal Chaos Scenario two years ago. In the original, he argued that advertisers saw the decline of old media but that new media weren’t ready for them (as we indeed are not — see my AdAge column on the topic) — and so the advertisers are left without the means to market. In Chaos Scenario 2.0, Garfield argues that marketers have new ways to do their business directly with customers that no longer require advertising. He warns of “the post-advertising age.”"http://www.buzzmachine.com/2007/04/07/chaos-20/Alex

The first panel was about software and services and campaigns. Not my shtick. Now there’s a panel about building a web team with Joe Trippi, Jerome Armstrong of MyDD, Patrick Ruffini (now with Giuliani), Chuck DeFeo of Townhall.com, and Chuck Todd as moderator. Much talk about the YouTube campaign. Sporadic liveblogging:"

      A Million C-SPANs By Jeff Jarvis, www.buzzmachine...
A Million C-SPANsBy Jeff Jarvis, www.buzzmachine.comReposted with permission.February 26th, 2007 I say we need to create a million C-SPANs made by us, the citizens, using video to open up government to inspection by all. C-SPAN itself is, oddly, one of the most jealous protectors of copyright anywhere. That’s why they demanded that Stephen Colbert’s speech before the press corps of Washington be pulled down from online. That is why The Times writes today about confusion in Congress about what representatives can and cannot put on their blogs. The short answer is: government feeds belong to us all, C-SPAN feeds belong to them. So Nancy Pelosi was in her rights to put up speeches from the floor on her blog; that came from the taxpayers’ cameras. Yet as The Times points out:But last week, as it happens, C-Span did contact the speaker’s office to have it take down a different clip from her blog — one shot by C-Span’s cameras at a House Science and Technology Committee hearing o
