      Where the Butterflies Went
The butterflies were made for a chunky pages swap and by the end I remembered why I had stopped doing these swaps.  I become tired of doing the same thing.  But that was also the very reason I joined this one - to push myself to make variations by giving myself a deadline and a purpose.  I definitely came up with some combinations for wing patterning that didn't initially occur to me.  The last four butterflies are shown below.

The thick wool felt I used as a stitching base is very easy to stitch through and gives these butterflies a bit of extra dimension.  I actually purchased it as a base for needlefelting, but I like it in this application as well.  I limited my floss colors to a handful and my bead selection to one mixed bag so I could concentrate more on varying pattern from one butterfly to another.  It's interesting to see how much I can pack into a small space.  I'm over half way done now...

      Create your own Dimensional Butterflies
This is actually a technique came to me when a great friend of mine send me a Staz On ink pad! Thanks Lynn! Since Staz On is a solvent ink, it can be use to stamp on any non-porous surfaces. In my latest tag, I've created three dimensional butterflies out of transparency, vellum and card stock. I've used the solvent ink to stamp my butterfly image onto a transparency and later cut it out. Then I've snipped into each flap of the wings towards the center. Since transparency is rather a hard material, you can easily fold up or down any part of the wing. This will make it look dimensional. To add some details, I've also use a white paint marker to doodle on it and add some crystals to it.My second dimensional butterfly is made out of vellum. I've stamped and heat embossed a butterfly on a vel

      Added Watercolor to Butterflies
My favorite part of watercolor is the way it flows, so I wanted to make use of that effect in adding color to the sketches, but not the same for all of them. For the butterfly wing I wanted the color to spread wildly, so I worked primarily wet in wet from my pan watercolors.  I used the pans again, but with less water on the first sketch to get a more overlapping effect. In contrast, I colored within the lines on the purple butterfly using watercolor crayons to make it easier to keep the flow to a minimum.  It seemed an appropriate approach to the more stylized design.  However, the end results on the purple and the rust butterflies were closer in appearance than I had expected.Next step is, of course, stitching. I started with lines on the first set of

      Silence and the Butterflies
Goodness but that sounds like the title to a book.I think it would be about a little deaf girl who loved to sit in her Grandmother's butterfly garden. She would spend much of her time there and her family worried that she could become a taciturn recluse if she continued on in this manner. But she seemed happy when she was with the butterflies. She became a renowned artist who specialized in watercolor paintings of butterflies. Whenever she painted butterflies she felt and almost heard a symphony pouring out of her brush. But then one day...Oh never mind.So yesterday some friends of ours offered to take the boys for several hours so I could enjoy some rare time alone to either just enjoy the silence or to get some work done. As it was, I did both.I did some reading. I reveled in the strange and unfamiliar sound of silence. I did some writing. I soaked in the solitude that comes but a drop at a time. I cleaned the school room and washed some dishes. And for a moment I sat do

Raising Butterflies in a Butterfly Garden
Last month I bought a butterfly garden. It was similar to when I bought a Venus fly trap because I was thinking as I clicked the "Place Order" button: "This will be great for the kids, it will really teach them about nature" when we all know it had very little to do with the kids. From the first time I saw the Butterfly Garden I wanted to see caterpillars changing into butterflies. The garden is really a collapsible net house which includes a coupon for the caterpillars (an extra $3) but within a week we had five tiny little creatures in a clear plastic sealed cup that were non-stop eating machines. The cup was half-filled with what looked like caramel which the caterpillars chomped right up, growing into enormous fuzzy beasts that soon attached themselves to the underside of the lid in five little swaying cocoons. We took out the lid and attached it inside the butterfly house and waited. A week later five Painted Lady butterflies emerged--it happened much quicker than you'd image,

The holiday to the South of France is unfortunately coming to an end. We have all enjoyed our time here and it is a place that we will becoming back to. It in someways reminds us of what Britain was like 30 years ago. No speed or CCTV cameras every 5 metres, no police dressed like robocop who have become unapproachable, no council busy bodies lurking around corners waiting to fine you for f*rting or heavens forbid leave your bin lid open. The way of life here revolves around communities and people helping each other out, many people may not be cash rich but are resource rich so a type of barter system operates. We do not have rose tinted glasses on , as a result of our short visit, but we can see the advantages of what we have experienced. One of the things that has amazed me so much, has been the wildlife. Wildflowers and herbs are everywhere, insect thrive as the way of farming and the lack of overcrowding do not damage their habitats. I only hope that this prevails. Many of the inse

      Butterflies bring blissful erotic moments
I'm lying on soft grass... The sun is shining and my smooth skin shines back... Being all alone on this sultry day I enjoy the “temporary” loneliness, the green beauty, the “rainbow”-colored birds, the bright blue sky, the sunlight, the flowers, the orange smell coming from my basket and me, naked... This is pure delight to feel this “nude freedom” and the morning breeze “entering” my spread wings, caressing me to peaceful sleep. I playfully look at my womanly curves. Have to admit, I'm pretty pleased with how I look. I like my pinky-brown circles, my sensitive belly, my petite waist, my round hips and butt, my easily aroused... I move a finger to meet it. Wet, hot as hell, my little hole immediately clenches down on it... Well-well... My pretty kitty's hungry for daddy's tasty “meat”?.. I'm Eve today, where is my Adam?.. Eh...Smiling to myself I close my eyes with my mind pleasantly “blank”. Relax, breathing deeply...Suddenly, in the silence of the nature

Butterflies and Business "The butterfly counts no...
Butterflies and Business"The butterfly counts not months but moments, and has time enough." ~Rabindranath TagoreIf you're an entrepreneur or small business owner, you know all too well about the TIME game. What's that? Basically, it's that feeling of trying to cross off every single thing on your to-do list before the end of the day.So what do you do if you're trapped in the 'too much to do, too little time' game? Get smart. Here's the thing - don't do everything on your list. That's right, life's too short. Yes, you may need to send that proposal to a prospective client, finish a report, write a letter, do some consulting, etc. but do you need to do everything on your list? How do you know what to do and not to do? This will vary depending on your business and lifestyle but there are some things you can do to simplify your day.Try this: - Every day, start out with a plan. Be sure to have 3 key high-payoff things you'd like to achieve. This will keep you focused and you won'

      Bucky in Butterflies
Another day with the computer here … As you know, shortly I will be setting up blogs for a couple of friends. So I have to know what I am doing and what the choices are. Toady I set a blog up at WordPress - they are hosting it. The address is dianeclancy.wordpress.com and the other new one is dianeclancy.blogspot.com (yesterday’s work.) Bucky in Butterflies, Digital © Diane Clancy It has actually been quite fun seeing the differences among the 3 choices. On this WordPress blog, that I host on my site, I can make lots of adaptations very easily because I can get right in to the guts of the code and tweak things to my heart’s content. But on the Blogger blog, there are drop and drag templates that are quite simple to use. They have a lot of flexibility and you don’t need to know html to use this site. - (You don’t need to know html to host WordPress on your own site either - I want to make that clear.) - But I was frustrated at various times when I trie

      Emma in Butterflies
Emma looks like she is having fun … walking through the butterflies with her dainty little paw gracefully poised. What fun to have these beautiful, colorful butterflies all around. This is part of “Fanciful Animal Images” that are so popular with many people. Emma doesn’t have to worry about prioritizing in her life. Well, that may not be true, she probably has to decide which butterfly to chase. Emma in Butterflies, Digital © Diane Clancy But I bet you are like me - often not sure how to prioritize the many tasks that lie strewn over my life (and house.) Actually, I too have many beautiful butterflies to chase … marketing these animal images (making the site, creating more images), online stores (posting more items in my stores, setting up CafePress, starting eBay), reworking my business card as suggested, work for clients, catching up on reading, researching and email, and, oh yes, painting - that’s right, I am an artist. I am sure you know

      Bambi in Butterflies
Thanks to your help, I am close to pinning down a name for my “Enhanced Animal Images,” probably soon to be known by another name. Some of you thought “enhanced” meant photo restoration - Sue O’Kieffe made that observation. So that isn’t such a great thing. I looked up in a dictionary and thesaurus and I didn’t find any good synonyms. Bambi in Butterflies, Digital © Diane Clancy The last two days I have discussed this conundrum in posts Lady in Butterflies and Violet in Flowers and there have been some terrific comments. I am going to share what Chris O’Byrne (www.onlineartsmarketing.com) suggested. I would like to get your feedback. Chris says, “I was just listening to a marketing cd yesterday that emphasized how you can’t (and should not try) to be all things to all people. Choose a narrow niche and go deeper. Better yet, choose more than one niche and market those separately.” Chris continues, “If I saw Enhance

Butterfly Escape - Spring the butterflies!
Butterfly Escape is not a room escape game, it is an action puzzle game. Help Buka free the butterflies by destroying balls of light before they reach the Dungeon of Darkness. Make matches of three or more like-colored balls to clear them from the board. Play this game! (If the game doesn’t work in firefox, try it with internet explorer)

      Lady in Butterflies
This photogenic dog is a family member of my brother’s family. The kids love her greatly. In a post 2 days ago, I talked about starting a new site (within my regular site) for my enhanced animal images that I make. I take a photograph of an animal companion (this one is supplied by my brother) and put them into a field of flowers or butterflies. Lady in Butterflies, Digital © Diane Clancy Yesterday Neda responded to my post with, “Good idea. Want some suggestions for the new business? How about “Petproject” or “Yourpetproject” or “digi-pet”?? Submitting these just for fun!” Thank you, Neda for being enthusiastic and having suggestions!! I appreciate your ideas! I hadn’t thought about having a new name for this part of my business. I have been using “Enhanced Animal Images” for these images. I have also been using the words “animal companion” rather than pet to show the significance animals have to many people. What do you think? What would y

      Invite Butterflies Into Your Garden
With the huge growth that many cities and towns are experiencing we see the dwindling of Natural Meadows. With the absence of natural meadows, the habitat for butterflies, birds and other wildlife are dwindling too. Luckily butterflies are easily enticed back if you plant a garden where the caterpillar (pupa stage) has plants to eat and the butterfly has flowers to sip nectar. Butterfly gardens are easy to plant and will give you and your family a chance to see butterflies in their natural habitat. The basics are an open space with tons of sunshine and a shield from wind. Pick a site with lots of sunlight with a few rocks or stones that can heat up on which the butterflies can bask in the afternoon sun. Try to place your garden near hedges or shrubs that will help shield them from the strong winds. If it is too windy, the butterflies won’t stay around for long. The hedge or shrub could become food for the caterpillar. (more…)

      Stella in Butterflies
In the post 2 days ago, Chris O’Byrne (www.onlineartsmarketing.com made suggestions about starting and promoting a website for my Enhanced Animal Images. His ideas got my creative juices going! Stella in Butterflies, Digital © Diane Clancy Here is part of his comment “Give something away for free in exchange for a name and email address (yup that again). The freebie could be a five step mini-course on how to photograph your pet. After you get that information and the potential customer has received the mini-course, send them an offer to take one of their pet photos and enhance it for $9 to $19.” I am not a photographer - I am a designer and artist. But it helped me realize what I could give away that would be very unusual. As far as I know, no one else makes these kinds of enhanced animal images. I have shared in my past posts how to do this. But I could put together 5 steps (I guess 5 - I would have to see how it came out) on how to make your own enhanced animal

      Freckles in Butterflies
My enhanced animal images are pretty unique from what I gather. These unusual digital paintings are among my most universally popular images. Often when people see their “own” animal companion, they immediately stop and buy a card - and often all the cards with that particular animal. I have had requests to put people’s own animal companion into a field of flowers. This special series is admired by many. Freckles in Butterflies, Digital © Diane Clancy Continuing with the idea of licensing (from yesterday’s post), I think it makes the most sense to start with the Enhanced Animal Images. There is no question which paintings belong in the collection. Many companies want a group of at least four images so they can create sets of products - like four place mats. I have plenty of these paintings using a variety of cats and dogs (and even a doe and bear cub). There are a butterfly theme and three flower themes. These images might be marketable to more companies tha
