The Bucket List is an interesting movie. The film has three distinct parts: the beginning, where both characters are in the hospital, bonding; the middle, where both characters are gallivanting around, chalking up a lifetimes adventure tourism in a few months; and the end, where both characters come to terms with their own humanity. The first part and last part of the movie definitely work, although the hospital scenes are more disturbing than funny. The last reel is particularly good, providing the emotional heart of the film. Classic Blues from Smithsonian FolkwaysI figured that I would shake things up a little bit by posting this compilation of raw and gritty blues. Smithsonian Folkways, long revered for releasing amazing compilations of classic blues, folk, international and bluegrass, have really pulled out the stops here. Pretoria – Government has re-affirmed its commitment to meeting its target of eradicating the bucket toilet system in all formal settlements established before 1994. “The government wishes to announce that significant progress has already been made in this regard. “By August 2007 149 863 bucket toilets had been removed around the country from the initial backlog of 252 254 in February 2005,” said the Government Communications and Information System (GCIS) in a statement Tuesday. read more

There are certain toy advertisement jingles that get stuck in your head like some bizarre Amazon worm that will stick it’s breathing tubes out of your face and you think are just really weird bits of facial hair, but then one morning larva will painfully burrow their way out of your eyes… or something like that. The Slinky jingle has lasted for decades, but other jingles that were very catchy for their time have faded away. Here’s one that was pretty damn catchy for it’s day, but is now so much more hilarious that I’m a bit older. The first Bokashi bucket is now full. It has taken 6 weeks to get to this stage and I'm pleased to say we have noticed how much less waste we are throwing out. Before we got the Bokashi bucket we used to put our organic waste in either in our wormery or into the compost bin. The problem that we found was that the waste would build up and would start to get fluffy from the bacteria . That then had to get thrown into the household bin as it was no use. With the Bokashi being in the kitchen this problem has not arisen as the waste gets added daily to the bucket. I would say that initially we were a bit generous with the amount of active bran that was added and we didn't get much liquid . We started adding less bran and the liquid started collecting at the bottom of the bucket and we drained it off 2-3 times a week. You know when you are doing it right as the liquid smells slightly vinegary, this is because the waste is being pickled as opposed to normal composting as it is being done an
