Hardbeatnews, BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Tues. Oct. 30, 2007: The appointment of former Australian opening batsman, John Dyson as the coach of the West Indies team is just another indication that West Indies cricket is in dire straits.
If you’ve been lamenting the absence of UK-based news reporting on your iPod (what, really?) then you’ll be overjoyed to hear that ITN, who produce the factual bulletins for British channel ITV, have signed a deal with Apple that will see their mobile news and entertainment content available as free downloads via iTunes. The footage will be funded by a video advert from Ad Infuse shown beforehand.

We have just learned from Sky News that the BBC is indeed going to axe 1,800 jobs, and they will also be selling of Television Centre in West London by 2012. These plans are hoped to help save the broadcaster £2bn. Director-general Mark Thompson has been in a series of briefings to make even further cuts, and this has angered unions who have already threatened the BBC with industrial action against these proposals.
It looks as though hundreds of jobs could be lost in the BBC’s factual division; this division brings us great programs such as Planet Earth and Top Gear. Around 600 jobs could be lost in news and sport, and it is also thought that not as many new programs will be made and we will have to watch more repeats.

From our Friends at Formula PR:ESPN Zone and the Baltimore Orioles have teamed up to host the Junior Broadcaster competition, a search for the next generation of sports announcers. Children 12 and under will compete for the opportunity to work in the broadcast booth during an upcoming Orioles game at historic Camden Yards. On July 16 and 17, entrants are invited to ESPN Zone, located at 601 E. Pratt Street on Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, where each will have the opportunity to showcase their sports-announcing chops. Two Junior Broadcasters will be selected each day. “Announcing at an Orioles game is something these young Orioles fans will remember all their lives, and it’s great to be able to offer that to them,” said Christine Baum, ESPN Zone’s manager, marketing and communications. “We expect to get entrants from all over the area and even outside the state, so we’re excited to see what kind of talent emerges as a result of this contest. Judging will not be an easy task.
While presenting a snake along with its owner, a "vicious" lizard jumps on the broadcaster, causing him a panic attack. It's hilarious! Well, it is partially true. Downloading and, later looking at it, has advantages. You can begin and stop when you decide, you can store and see it again. That is why the invention of VCR was so profitable.VOD they call it.You decide to look at something, just download it and look at it.At any hour at any day.But what's the cost? Not cheap certainly, unless you talk about P2P.That is cheap (not as much as it looks, because if you consider the time to search and to download you find out that it gets expensive)but it is ILLEGAL.It's like a Chinese copy of Prada or Chanel or Rolex, very much like the original at a 100th of the price.Too bad you are not allowed to buy it.It would be nice if it was free, just like the free TV.Free is what makes everythign widespread. But then, you have to pay looking a the commercial...And commercials are what made TV what it is.Somebody could object about quality and I could agree, but here I am discussing about popularity and availability.I guess commercials
