If Boxing Is Your Favorite Sport DirecTV Has Loads of Hockey Programming For You
By: David Johnson Who doesn't love a good boxing match on TV? Isn't it great when it's a good fight and it is perfumed by two game competitors who are decent enough to follow all the rules of the sport? Nonsense! Everyone knows that the best boxing matches are the ones that break out during ice hockey games and the really good ones involve groups of adrenaline fueled maniacs that refuse to stop as they perform impromptu tooth removal surgery on each other, as the blood thirsty crowd goes nuts. The problem with regular boxing matches is that as soon as they start getting going the damn referee stops all the action and the dolts always follow his instructions, as if they don't even have minds of their own. When a fight breaks out during a hockey game the referee stands away from it, or he mig

      The Sport Of Boxing
Why would two grown men stand in a ring throwing punches at each while people whooped and hollered in the crowds? Why would two grown men aim to knock the other out for the count? Why you ask? Well it’s all part of the sport of boxing!Ever heard the phrase “toe the line?” Wonder where it came from? Well it’s the earliest form of boxing where two components would get into the ring with no gloves and no doctors onsite. They would fight until one or both were in a state of disrepair no longer capable of fighting. This form of boxing was highly illegal and prone to regular police raids but it didn’t stop the sport from continuing and from spectators attending. Exactly the same thing would happen today if modern boxing became a banned sport.Boxing is one of those sports you love or hat

      White Crane Boxing In Brief
White Crane Boxing is a Southern Chinese martial art which originated in Fujian province and is now practiced throughout the world. The Chinese call this extremely popular Northern style of Wushu "Pao-hao," "Pak Hok," "Bak Hok," or "Ba Fan." It is from the Lama or Hop Gar style of Wushu, which emulates the movements of the crane. It focuses on repeating a rapid series of hand and foot techniques. The principle of "revolving force" is important. This means that using the opponent's force against him or her is essential.Feints are used to deceive the opponent into a vulnerable position. Vital point attacks are taught using hands that resemble a crane's beak. The arm techniques, both long and short, are circular, stances are solid and footwork uses short steps. Nathan at TDA Training has a lot of good info on boxing, including articles on boxing for self-defense, boxing combinations, and such… One of his more popular articles describes 3 C’s of boxing defense and 3 C’s of boxing offense – good rules of thumb that make things a lot better better during sparring. In this article, Nathan says that for defense, you should Circle, Cover, and Counter and that for offense, you should Close, Cover, and Clear. Read his article for details.I’d say this is all mighty good advice but just as a thought exercise what if we change a thing or two ….The line between offense and defense is blurry at best most times, so, what if we combined the two groups into one?Cover appears twice. Maybe it is twice as important, but what if we replaced one Cover wit

      Boxing In Brief
The sport of boxing started when two individuals engaged in a fight using their fists. The Greeks are believed to be the first to formalize the sport during the Olympic Games in 688 BC. During the Roman era, the sport of boxing became increasingly popular and boxers wore leather bands around their fists for protection. Some of these bands contained metal strips that caused significant injuries to either opponent. After the fall of Rome, the sport was not as popular, but was revived in the 18th century when James Figg held the heavyweight title for over 20 years. In the Industrial Revolution the game was known as the workingman?s sport with matches resembling street fights, rather than an organized event. In 1773, English born Jack Broughton became the second heavyweight champion. Muay Thai (Thai Kick Boxing)
Muay Thai or Thai Kick Boxing is a world famous martial art. It is considered by many to be the most violent and exciting sports. The Muay Thai boxer wears gloves and shorts, usually in red and blue, as international boxers do with additional armbands and a headband, which has been blessed by his teacher. Compared with international boxing, Muay Thai has a distinctive feature. In Thai boxing, each part of the body such as fists, feet, knees, and elbows is allowed to be used as a weapon to overcome the competitor. Moreover, its combination of dancing and fighting is unique in style. Before the match begins, each competitor will perform a dance, or what they call “Wai Kru”, accompanied by traditional Thai music. Reasons for doing the performance are to pay homage

How To Wrap Your Hands For Boxing
I show you how to wrap your hands for boxing in this post.We use 180" "Mexican-style" handwraps. To make application easier, rool the wrap backwards.Place loop on thumb and begin wrapping to the back of the wrist. Go around 2-4 times.Next, go up to the knuckles from the back of the hand. Pad the knuckles 2 -3 times. Now, cross back down to the wrist creating an "X" across the back of the hand. Now, go completely around the thumb and secure it to the wrist. Now go between the knuckles, starting with the furthest and working your way back to your thumb.Go completely around the wrist and back up to pad the knuckles another time or two.Create multiple "X"s across the back of the hand. Then finish up on the wrist.Tip #1: Open and close your hand as you wrap to ensure you aren't making it too tight

Do you remember the time you started doing something sure it's not worth it, and a few minutes into the process you thought you were wrong only to find out you WEREN'T wrong after all... This is how I felt with Gameloft's KO Legends(also known as KO fighters) When I started the game I was under impression it will be another audio/visually dominating but somewhat unoriginal game, because let's face it - Gameloft have a serious problem with original content these days. And I was right - the game has "borrowed" half of the content from one of the last Rocky games (I believe the name was Rocky Legacy). I was happy with it for a time though because the Gameloft game had some additional depth to the mechanics and the customization options almost made me feel like I'm playing something different

In boxing parlance, a "tomato can" is a hand-picked schlub brought in to go a few rounds with the champ, whose odds of scoring an upset are comparable to say, Madison, Wisconsin landing the next games of the Olympiad. While these guys are technically professional fighters, at least when they're not earning a living as roofers, drywallers and doing other jobs that don't require a background check, it's not uncommon for the town drunk to take one glassy-eyed look at one of these soft around the midriff ham 'n' eggers and think to themselves, "I could take 'em"--especially if he's facing the other way and I'm swinging a barstool. It's no accident then that "punch drunk" has become part of the lexicon as we'll see in this story. A London man, on the back end of a two-day drink and co

Boxing Styles: The Three Main Types
By Gabriel AdamsThere are three main types of styles that boxers fall into when boxing. These reflect how they move and how they punch. It is generally thought that the styles are a lot like rock, paper, scissors in that one style beats another while it will generally lose to the third. However, this has been disproved many times and is only accepted as true. The first style we will mention is the Brawler. This type of boxer will generally throw single and powerful punches against their opponent. A lot of brawlers are able to throw a punch which can knock out an opponent in a single blow. The biggest problem with this fighting technique is how slow the boxers usually are to punch. By being so slow they can be countered a lot more easily. The next type of style is that of the Inside Fighter.

Boxing Gloves: Everything You Need To Know!
By Gabriel AdamsThe most important piece of equipment for a boxer is their boxing gloves. When boxing first started many hundreds of years ago, boxers did not use boxing gloves at all. These boxers were known as gladiators, because they fought with their bare hands, and sometimes these fights ended in death. However as we became more civilized, we realized that this was too brutal of a way for boxers to fight. At this time boxing gloves were first introduced to help protect a fighter’s hands while boxing. These original boxing gloves were called “mufflers”, because they “muffled” the blow on the fighter’s face and hands. However these gloves were not used during matches at first, but only during training. Conventional boxing gloves were not used until much later, but these initi

      Pet Fun: Beat-Boxing Bassethound
Saw this interactive flash program and had to blog about it. You might have seen this on other sites as its getting to be popular. but for those who haven't here is the link: Depending on your internet speed this may take some time to load, but the wait is worth it. I should also state that website is in another language. Although the controls for the hound are easily identified. You even have the option to record your own hound performance and I believe you can email the finished product. I'm not too sure of this last assessment, as I am very reluctant to add peoples emails on foreign sites, because that hound could be the candy coating for something malicious. Therefore I'm content to just play it as it is. make money online

RJJ Triumphant Plus Pinoy Boxing Updates
Roy Jones Junior emerged victorious over fellow faded superstar, Felix "Tito" Trinidad in their light heavyweight match up last weekend. Jones proved to be the dominant fighter and scored two knockdowns during the fight. The final scored tallied 116-110 twice and 117-109 all for RJJ. Well, I think the outcome was really no surprise at all. I was hoping Trinidad would win because I am a Tito fan but Jones was really to big for him. Tito was dominant at 147 while Jones managed to win a heavyweight belt.Trinidad also had difficulty against P4P fighters who were heavier than him. He Hopkins, Wright ans now Jones has proven that Trinidad did not have the explosive power he possessed at welterweight. So what does this mean for both fighters? For Roy Jone Junior, well this victory will probably

      January 2008 Philippine Boxing Updates
Pacman vs. HitmanThese past few weeks, there has been a lot of buzz about a possible super fight between Pinoy boxing star, Manny Pacquiao and British boxing star, Ricky Hatton. Since Ricky Hatton is about the same height as Manny and has a two inch reach disadvantage, some people have argued that it would be a good match up. In terms of weight, Pacquaio had weighed in at around 140 lbs. at fight time, which is around Hatton's usual weight. This is not a good match up in my opinion because even if both fighters are of the same height, I don't think that they are of the same size and weight. Hatton would be the natural bigger man and has a big advantage in size. Pacman weighed at about 140 at the night of some of his fights but I think Hatton for his part weighed over 150 lbs in most of his

      ahhh Boxing Day
Traditionally I have a Christmas Day post … The day escaped me. With a whirlwind of wrapping paper, potential choking hazards, calls to family back home, meals, drool and new toys … the day escaped me. It was a wonderful Christmas. I am glad that Ethan was able to experience his first Christmas in Canada. Becca would have been happy with the first three gifts she opened from us. (Note to self buy less) When we found out we would be returning to Canada by Christmas, I was excited that once again we could enjoy Boxing Day holiday and of course sales. Wait. NO SALES? The stores are all closed today as they were yesterday. This is a city that just allowed Sunday shopping last year! Before that … no quickies to Sears for underwear, it had to wait till Monday. I am thankful that there is so much respect for families here. Really I can wait one more day J & I shared a big present … We purchased a rocker/recliner for the living room. It is a wonderful chair. What is Boxing Day
Day is a public holiday celebrated in the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand and Australia and many other members of the Commonwealth of Nations on December 26, the day after Christmas Day or alternatively on the next weekday after Christmas.Boxing Day is a traditional celebration, dating back to the Middle Ages, and consisted of the practice of giving out gifts to employees, the poor, or to people in a lower social class. The name has numerous folk etymologies[3]; the Oxford English Dictionary attributes it to the Christmas box; the verb box meaning: "To give a Christmas-box (colloq.); whence boxing-day." Outside the Commonwealth, the day is still celebrated but just with a different name.

I inadvertently walked into one at a store one time and one time only when I went for one small item. I

Boxing Day - Colours of Friendship
"Jen P" over at "What Jen Finds Out" is determined to drag me up the blogging learning curve and has kindly passed on this token of friendship. I refuse to write all that mushy stuff about relationships as I might split my stiff upper lip.Traditionally, in other parts of the world, Boxing Day means that trades people who have helped maintain your household and sanity throughout the year, pop around to collect their tips, where the homeowner has the opportunity to show their appreciation for other people's hard work and support. As I look around at the recipients it would seem there are a great many connections already, but there's now harm in spreading it a little further. As I sit here surrounded by small people playing with Pokemon, I can easily pop along to "Chelle" at "Crazy Thoughts," to catch up and share.Another prodigious blogger is "Holly" at "Fragile X" where the six of them muddle along much the way that everyone else does, especially this one that made me chuckle "today

The Perfect Gift For The Boxing Fan On Your List
Are you done with your Christmas shopping yet? Still having trouble finding the perfect gift for the man in your life? or maybe that long lost uncle you just heard was returning to the fold this holiday season. Well, if they’re a boxing fan I’ve got the perfect suggestion for you: Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez tickets. The fight is going to be held March 15th at The Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, but tickets go on sale this Saturday morning and will likely sell out in minutes (which is where sites like TeamOneTickets.com come in). The first time they fought for the Featherweight title (in May of 2004) was an undisputed draw and rated “Fight Of The Year” by many with three knockdowns in the first round alone! Now, four years later, Marquez, the defending champion, has a 48-3-1 record, with 35 Knock Outs, while Manny “PacMan” Pacquiao is sitting on a 45-3-2 record, with 34 KOs.  These two gladiators will be going at it once again in a few sh

In Praise of the Boxing Day Test Match
After the madness of Christmas, there's nothing quite like sitting in the shade on a hot summer day, eating cold turkey sandwiches, reading the paper and chatting with friends. And if the venue happens to be the grand Melbourne Cricket Ground and there's a cricket game in action - all the better. Boxing Day (December 26) is the traditional first day of the epic sports fest known as a Test Match. Tests are cricket matches that last five days. This year, the all-conquering Australian team take on an experienced (i.e., aging) India in a four-test series that kicks off in Melbourne. With a stunning batting line-up and none-too-shabby bowlers, the Indians are no easy-beats; they've just come off series wins against England and Pakistan. And although the Indians have never won a series in Australia, we can expect a great tussle. Last year almost 80,000 people flocked to Boxing Day to watch the Aussies play traditional rivals England. And while it's unlikely there'll be quite as
