The reasoning is quite hilarious; but what else can you expect from such people. The claim is that “because the National Guard is serving in Iraq, there are no resources to help combat the fires”. Wrong!!! The Pentagon has stated that 17,000 Guardsmen are available and are just waiting to be called to help out. And then, California’s Lieutenant Governor – can’t even remember his name — told Chris Mathews that President Bush’s upcoming visit to the region would be a “distraction” and that it was only for “public relations” and that he (meaning Bush) should “send the National Guard back from Iraq” to help with the fires. Global Warming is being Blamed for the Genocide in Darfur
From breitbart.com: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said that the slaughter in Darfur was triggered by global climate change and that more such conflicts may be on the horizon, in an article published Saturday. “The Darfur conflict began as an ecological crisis, arising at least in part from climate change,” Ban said in a Washington Post opinion column.UN statistics showed that rainfall declined some 40 percent over the past two decades, he said, as a rise in Indian Ocean temperatures disrupted monsoons. “This suggests that the drying of sub-Saharan Africa derives, to some degree, from man-made global warming,” the South Korean diplomat wrote. “It is no accident that the violence in Darfur erupted during the drought,” Ban said in the Washington daily. When Darfur’s land was rich, he said, black farmers welcomed Arab herders and shared their water, he said. With the drought, however, farmers fenced in their land to prevent overgrazing. “F

After 2,500 years, the monarchy had been abolished. A new era of freedom, the people believed, had dawned, and they would at last live under a system which reflected both their aspirations for modern democracy and their national heritage. But all too soon, the dream became a nightmare, with the return of dictatorship, this time under the guise of religion. This medieval theocracy’s first and foremost victims have been women. "Inzamam's attitude was haughty and that of a dictator and more than one incident proved that. Inzamam should have been removed from the captaincy. As a player he was world-class but his attitude was haughty during and before the tournament," head of the committee Ijaz Butt said. Frying Pan Chemical Blamed for Poisoning
As compelling as the evidence is against PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid), the key ingredient used in manufacturing Teflon, and the fact the EPA has called for a ban on it -- albeit a voluntary one -- hasn't stopped folks from defending it anyway. The case in point is yesterday's ridiculous attack by the Statistical Assessment Service at George Mason University (STATS) who claimed a piece in the most recent issue of Mother Jones on Teflon was more of a "scientifically illterate" Chicken Little tale than anything else.Among their "stronger" claims: PFOA may be a persistent chemical, but it has a half-life of four years in humans and is highly unreactive. If that's the case, why has the presence of PFOA been linked as of late to lower birth weights among newborn babies, who've probably never had contact with coated frying pans or popcorn bags?At the heart of this attack, in their minds, is the lack of evidence -- for now -- regarding Teflon toxicity, no doubt a product of the might a hug

Climate change blamed for frog and lizard extinctions
Previous studies have cited a fungus as the reason for population declines, but this study found declines of populations free of the fungus. Global warming seems to be the next fall guy in line, though the synopsis of the evidence doesn’t sound at all conclusive. One statistic I hadn’t seen yet: 100 frog and reptile species have gone extinct in Central & South America since 1980.

Six arrested for Lebanon bus bombings Members of al Qaeda-linked group accused of bombings, planning attacks against UN force. BEIRUT - Members of an Al-Qaeda-linked group have admitted carrying out last month's deadly Lebanon bus bombings, a government official said Tuesday. Six members of the group are in custody, some of them nationals of once-dominant neighbour Syria, and all have confessed to their part in the February 13 bombings which killed three people and wounded 18 in a mountainous area northeast of Beirut, the official said. Another two members of the cell of the Fatah-Islam group are still at large, the official added, asking not to be identified. It was the first time a Lebanese official had spoken of the arrest of suspects in the bombings. The detained suspects confessed to carrying out the bombings from a rented flat in the Ashrafiyeh area of east Beirut. The rental was made in the name of Syrian Mustafa Shiyo, the official said. The suspects said they h

Drought blamed on lack of faith
A LEADING Muslim cleric has blamed the devastating drought, climate change and pollution on Australians’ lack of faith in Allah. Radical sheik Mohammed Omran told followers at his Brunswick mosque that out-of-control secular scientific values had caused environmental disaster. “The fear of Allah is not there. So we have now a polluted earth, a polluted water, a wasteland,” he told a meeting this year. “What are the people now crying for? The prophet told you hundreds of years ago, ‘Look after the water’.” A Sunday Herald Sun investigation also found clerics railing against “evil” democracy, vilifying Jews and Christians and encouraging jihad and polygamy. And in a popular DVD selling locally, a foreign sheik exhorts Muslims to take control of Australia by out-breeding non-believers. British-based Sheik Abdul Raheem Green forbade Muslims from having fewer than four children so Australia would become an Islamic state. Behind the close

Soros Blamed Yen Carry Trades for Turbulence
George Soros blamed yen carry trades as one very important factor in the current turbulence in global financial markets. As the YEN is basically interest-free, a lot of money is coming from borrowing and lots of Japanese money are going abroad. As the YEN weakened, a lot of people got into yen carry trades, thus causing a shake-out in financial markets. Soros also attributed the turbulence partly to a slowdown in the US economy and the housing situation. A slowdown will lead the US economy to more balanced growth while faster growth elsewhere will help correct the US trade deficit but that will lead to less liquidity in the market, Soros said in an interview with the Financial Times.Soros predicted that the Chinese govt will try to prevent a collapse of mainland bourses in the run up to th

Narnian White Witch blamed for harsh Chicago winter
Its been a long, cold winter in Chicago. Temperatures plummeted to well below freezing...and stayed there. Although Midwesterners are used to cold winters, the past few months have taken cold and ice to Narnia proportions, some say.In fact, a growing number of citizens are beginning to wonder if something more sinister than "El nino" is behind the freezing temperatures. Ideas that the White Witch may have taken over state and local governments, a theory scorned when it first surfaced, are gaining support."There's just so much ice everywhere" says one young mother. "We have about four inches of solid ice that covers our steps, sidewalk, and association roads. I don't feel that I can safely leave the house with my baby even to walk to the car, much less get out and about." The climate has taken a toll on children too, this woman tells us. "I don't know that my 7 month old has seen the sun since we were in San Diego for Christmas" she reports.Typically by March, Chicago will have seen

Students Fail, Teachers to be Blamed?
I think this is a very common issue among us students. We fail and we blame the teachers.Question is, is it really the teacher's fault? From my personal view, i would say it's not entirely the teacher's fault, but 80% , the blame is on the teacher.I was in the government school for 13 years. (Primary one until upper six) and i honestly havent met more than five dedicated teachers. I don't know about you guys, or maybe i was unlucky. Most of the teachers teach because they are paid to, and couldn't be bothered to mix around with the students.I do believe there's a few types of teachers that we should put the blame on. 1st they are teachers who teach because they "just want to do their duty". They do not care whether you are paying attention or not , or whether we get good grades. All they care is "they did their duty". this are the type of teachers who basically do not even know we progressed or not. I used to have this teacher who write a whole board of notes but do not bother whe
