What messages are UK parents sending out to their children about alcohol? In many homes, drinking is simply not discussed. In others, kids are occasionally permitted to try a sip of a parent's drink. And some parents follow the European model, allowing their children to have a glass of diluted wine or beer with meals. The theory is that, when presented with a relaxed approach to alcohol, children a

Binge eating disorder is an eating disorder in which the sufferer consumes food, unusually large amounts of food, on a regular basis in a brief period of time, hungry or not and continues to eat until they feel rather uncomfortable. These bouts are usually followed by feelings of guilt. Here the sufferer does not induce purging after binging unlike in the case of bulimia. This eating disorder is a problem, which affects both men and women but it is more common in women. This unhealthy habit of overeating tends to develop during childhood. What are the possible causes of binge eating disorder? It is still difficult to pin point the exact cause or causes of this disorder. However, the following may be some of the causes of this eating disorder:Depression - No one actually knows for sure if dep

Her addiction began at the tender age of twelve and quickly escalated from a few casual drinks into binging sessions of up four bottles of wine and a liter of vodka per day by her thirteenth birthday. She refused to acknowledge that her drinking "...was a problem because all my friends were getting wasted every weekend as well..." until she recently landed in the hospital after consuming 16 bottles of wine, cider, and spirits in a three day period. I just ate, reluctantly, the worst bagel in the history of bagels. It tasted like it was previously frozen and then microwaved to be heated up. Then it was toasted on the press, where they cook the fucking bacon. So then it's a greasy, previously frozen bagel that tasted similar to what cardboard would taste like if I was picking it out of my shit. I swear the fucking cafe downstairs is being run by retards. And not the cute retards that you see on TV snapping one liners, but the creepy retards you see in the park, humping park benches and spouting obscenities at children and soiling themselves. Those kind of retards. Thankfully, the one saving grace is that I brought a pop tart with me today for some strange reason, so I can wash the taste of that ass bagel out of my mouth. I just feel di
Breast cancer risk for binge drinkers By OUR LONDON CORRESPONDENT London: Middle-aged women who regularly drink large glasses of wine are at an increased risk of developing breast cancer, according to a warning by the Labour government. The health ministry has issued a warning to women in middle age who drink more than government guideline levels that they are 50 per cent more likely to develop breast cancer. The £10-million advertising campaign will feature stark warnings to women, who drink alcohol to excess, about the damage they are doing to their health. The department of health has warned that women use large glasses to drink wine or alcohol and thus underestimate how much alcohol they have actually consumed. Stronger wine, varying from 9 per cent to 13 per cent, and larger glasses

All of this time we have talked about what to eat and what not to eat. Though, that is only part of the solution to a good diet. There is something that we also need to talk about. What we haven't talked about is eating habits. When you should and shouldn't eat. That is as important as what you eat. Why is it important?

Tim Hames criticises the government's reported intentions to tactically increase tax on alcohol, specifically to attack "middle class wine drinkers". He asks whether the damage of stay-at-home 'binging' is a severe as crawling around the streets at 3am, and whether increasing taxation is justified or whether it is simply an excuse to increase revenue: It is also a fraudulent exercise in terms of policy. What supposed harm are “middle-class wine drinkers” doing to the rest of society? Is there any evidence that drunken fights on the streets at 3am on a Saturday are between two accountants who have hit the Châteauneuf-du-Pape too vigorously? Is the vomit in which the Daily Mail claims that Britain wades a result of 24-hour chablis bingeing? No, it is not. The middle classes, like everyo

Binge drinking is a big problem in the UK. BBC reported thatBritain's binge drinking culture is costing the country £20 billion a year, according to a government report. The study by the Prime Minister's Strategy Unit shows 17 million working days are lost to hangovers and drink-related illness each year. The annual cost to employers is estimated to be £6.4 billion while the cost to the NHS is in the region of £1.7bn. Billions more are spent clearing up alcohol-related crime and social problems. In addition, alcohol-related problems are responsible for 22,000 premature deaths each year. What about in Indonesia?I have tried to find relevant articles regarding this issue but couldn't find any. From the surface binge drinking is not a problem in Indonesia. Maybe because, first, most of Ind
Amy Winehouse reportedly wants to be clean and sober by the time her husband Blake Fielder-Civil gets out of jail, so she will enter a rehab center in Israel in January. But until then, she’s planning a massive Christmas binge (and no, we’re not talking about a food binge)!
The ‘Rehab‘ singer, who has battled cocaine and heroin addictions and was hospitalized following a drug overdose in August, plan to throw a huge party over the festive season before she checks into a rehabilitation and detox center.
One of Amy’s friends told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “She has agreed she will sort her life out in the New Year. Her team are sending her on a one-week rehab and detox treatment course.”
“But she is going to throw a party at her new flat in east London over Christmas - which will probably be a messy affair.” [Source]
Binge eating means that you eat more than you should and cannot control yourself. Eating a lot, in itself, does not mean you have a binge eating disorder, although most people suffering from binge eating have problems with how much and how often they eat.
The binge eating disorder is the most common eating disorder. Both obese and normal-weight people may suffer from this disorder, but the cases of overweight people with binge eating disorders are more numerous. Binge eating occurs more frequently with women than men.
Researchers have not found, so far, the causes of binge eating disorders. Almost half of the people with this problem suffer, or have suffered in the past, from depression. Whether binge eating disorders may be caused by depression or not isn`t known yet.
The binge eating disorder appears when people eat a lot, even if they are not hungry, until they feel uncomfortably full. This type of eating disorder makes people eat more quickly than usually, and by themselves, becaus

Binge eating disorder is a very serious condition that more people should know about because it is affecting many people and will continue to do so until we are all more educated on the risks involved from such behavior. This is a psychiatric condition, an actual disorder that must not be taken lightly because there are also many unfortunate risks to your health with this eating disorder just as with any order eating disorder.
Educating yourself and your children about the many negative affects from any eating disorder is very important and it will also help you to determine whether or not someone that you know or even yourself, might be suffering from an eating disorder, so that you can find the type of treatment that is very much needed.
With the binge eating disorder it is very common for the individual to eat until they are literally in pain from being so overly stuffed. They will eat and eat and continue eating as fast as they possibly can and because of it being a psychological
I'm in Iloilo City again. I arrived at the new Iloilo Airport this afternoon from Cebu. Bernard met up with me there and we took a cab to the city proper. I wasn't feeling that well so after a brief stopover at the old Iloilo City Hall which is now part of UP Visayas, I went back to the hotel and took a nap.In the evening, Isa Silva and family took me to Breakthrough Restaurant in the Arevalo District for dinner. I'm not that fond of seafoods but it was a seafood binge for me. We had abalone sashimi, talaba and the pricey diwal shells for dinner among others. Everything is fresh and you can catch your dinner yourself. The restaurant is also by the beach so the breeze adds to the ambiance. After dinner, we had some dessert in Smallville.
I’m delighted to have Rena Greenberg as a guest blogger. Rena is President of Wellness Seminars, Inc. and the author of several books about diet and weight loss (more at the end of the article). I believe that part of developing self-empowerment is learning to control your eating habits. Rena has some great suggestions for doing that! I had some serious cravings as I began this, tried some of Rena's suggestions, and I'm no longer needing to eat.☺Break the Binge Habitby Rena GreenbergThere is a magic question that you can ask yourself when you are about to reach for the last cookie in the box, finish the macaroni and cheese on your son’s plate, make a beeline for the refrigerator mindlessly, or pick at the desert that your husband is indulging in. This inquiry can help you to break the binge habit instantly. It is very simple, but extremely effective. The question is: “What is it that I am truly needing?”In most cases, when you stop to ask yourself, “What am I needing?

CNN is reporting that it's happened again in China- a man has died after a three-day gaming binge in a cyber cafe.So many things wrong with this story. First of all, how does someone sit in an internet cafe for three days without anyone else noticing? I'm sure that it must have been a huge, 24 hour, windowless warehouse type of place, with people coming and going all the time, but still, what business would allow people to basically live in their building? And then, of course, there's the gaming angle. Videogames and the Internet didn't kill this man, people, despite what CNN says:The paper said that he may have died from exhaustion brought on by too many hours on the Internet.Actually, I'm not a doctor, but I'm pretty sure he died from exhaustion brought on by staying awake for too long. If he'd been playing ping pong for three days straight, he probably wouldn't have come out of it very well either. The article says they don't know what game he was playing, so this may not e
By CHRIS LESTERThe Kansas City StarThe Federal Reserve’s key policymaking committee gathers today with more eyes trained on it than in years. The financial markets already have priced in at least a quarter-point cut in the federal funds target rate, which would reduce it to 5 percent. But some folks are already calling for a larger cut, to 4.75 percent, in hopes of heading off a recession caused by problems in the housing and credit markets.A cut certainly would be notable news. The Fed hasn’t cut its target short-term rate since June 2003, when it was reduced to a paltry 1 percent — effectively setting off a credit binge. At the time, the Alan Greenspan-led Fed said the cuts were aimed at heading off fears of deflation and supporting the economy as it recovered from the last recession.Lenders and borrowers enthusiastically tapped into the virtually free money to make a whole lot of what, in retrospect, have become shaky loans, particularly in the subprime mortgage industry. The chea
While the 1960s tend to be viewed as a happening time when recreational drug use was widespread, those years pretty much pale against the period of history that has been colourfully referred to as the Great Binge. Beginning in the 1860s and continuing until the second decade of the twentieth century, the range of mind-altering and chemically addictive substances that could be legally purchased across much of the known world was, well, intoxicating.
Not only was cocaine (which had been invented in the 1860s) perfectly legal and available in a wide range of products, but there were numerous other drugs to compete with it. Heroin, which had been invented in the 1890s as a substitute for morphine (and opium), was freely marketed as a non-addictive pain medication (it was commonly found in cough medicines for children). Bayer also marketed it as a cure for morphine addiction (they pulled the product in 1910 when it was found to be even more addictive than morphine).&nbs

The key thing to remember is to eat healthy snacks. Eat things that make your feel good, not things that are loaded with fat. Things that are loaded with fat will only make you feel drained and make you want to snack more. If you are having problems eating three meals a day, you really need to work on your diet. This is because you don't want to binge eat. Binge eating will only hurt you in the long run. Don't believe me? Look at it like this. You know what will happen if you don't eat all day long. You will get hungry and you will get the shakes. If you start to get the shakes you will go for whatever that you can to make it stop. Here is what I do to help me eat three meals a day. I start off by making my lunch before I go to bed. I do this because I won't do it when I wake up in the morning. I try my best just to get my clothes on and get out the door in good time so I am not late for work. I also pack some snacks for me to eat at work. I might put some veggie sticks and some fr

Stressed out? No Need to Resort to Binge Eating!
From the moment the buzzing alarm clock jolts us out of a sound sleep, most of us whiz through the day under stressful conditions. Finally, after everyone else has gone to bed, curling up on the couch with a pint of ice cream seems to be the best way to unwind. Yet even when we know in our minds that ‘comfort foods’ won’t solve our problems, many of us still find ourselves overeating when we’re under stress. There are reasons for this and ways you can resist the urge to binge.
Responding to Stress
Why does feeling stressed cause us to overeat? For one, eating is an effective way to temporarily forget about our problems. When we focus on food, we escape from our problems, at least for a little while. We’ve probably learned from past situations that food enables us to do this. And so eating distracts us during times of stress, and it feels good. Think about it, how many times have you run out of the office t
Everyone says it is just a big stereotype. And as is often the case when everyone says it is just a stereotype, it is actually true.It turns out the Irish are the world's biggest binge drinkers. And this is why everyone wants to be Irish on St. Patrick's Day.The survey, conducted in October and November last year, found that almost one in five people between the ages of 15 and 24 drink five or more alcoholic beverages in one session. The poll found that 34% of Irish people questioned saying they "usually" binge drink, followed by Finland, where 27% of respondents said they did the same. Britain was third with 24% and Denmark fourth with 23%.Binge drinking was defined as five drinks in one sitting. But, it seems to me the whole concept of binge drinking is pretty slippery. I mean if some bloke comes home after a hard day's work and spends the whole evening in the pub, to get away from the family that despises him, and knocks down five stouts, is that binge drinking? And what if he ord
