Some of the pieces in Amuleti J's FW07/08 collection are really, really lovely. However I'm not thinking about colder times yet, so let's stay with the SS07 collection for now - this was also amazing. I adored the natural tones of beige, peach, stone and light-brown, which were often worked together with a palest duck-egg blue, and offset by a metallic silver waist belt on many models. Brilliant. So romantic, so pretty. Many layers of jersey and knit, together with volumous shapes often gave the pieces a casual look, but at the same time outfits somehow managed to seem really simple, pure and sort of innocent. An interesting touch was the nude knee-length tights/leggings. Not sure that you should try that one at home.
I love clothes like these. They're sexy but ultra-sofisticated all at once. Beautifully refined. All fairly classic, but somehow they look modern anyway. And, anyway, how could I resist that snaffle-covered dress?Stylebop.com also (surprisingly) features some items, and they're all really reasonably priced: around 99 Euro for this top, which is a perfect trans-seasonal piece, and great when worn with white pants. The collection was set up by German Schraut in 2001. For more, see http://www.steffenschraut.com/
What do you think of when you hear that name - Wolford? Me, I think of tights. And expensive stockings. But there's so much more. If you have a great, trim figure, you should definitely look into the bodies and tops on offer - they're really slim fitting and elegant, and you'll like them if, like me, you're a shirt-tucked-in kinda girl. Not cheap, exactly (can be around 350 Euro for a dress), but try to loose that mental image of the brand just being for hosiery - there are some pretty cute pieces, particularly for work-wear: Super-sleek clothes for super-chic classic women.
I am so in love with the Packham collection for SS 07. It's so beautiful and young and sexy and yet many pieces are really elegant. The shapes are amazing. And, yes, despite much critizism, I also love the orange dress that we've seen on the red carpet a few times recently, as worn by Tara Reid and others:OK, so maybe it isn't a red carpet dress, but it's so refreshing and I love both colours - very flattering on a slightly tanned skin. It's also available in black/white, but I much prefer the orange. She's obviously had a huge amount of fun playing with colours, fabrics and geometric shapes. These are great, young dresses, and I think the maxi dresses are particularly well done. I think Trinny Woodall has worn the peach/green on the left and looked great in it - the lattice-lines on that and the center-left dress are very clever: Even a shapeless yellow bag like that on the left manages to look effortlessly elegant. However I'd draw the line at the right dress - I can't see th
Here's a nice one for you. Based in Chelsea, this young brand (started last year?) does really well-tailored jackets, dresses, skirts etc in a huge variety of lovely fabrics and prints, of which you have total control. Above are from her SS 07 collection, and they're very sweet. However I think the brand could be strongest in autumn/winter - their collection from last year or this year is online and there are some brilliant tweed jackets and beautiful coats. Classic styles with a twist of modernity. Just what I like!
These shoes are truly delicious. Hugely elegant. Very classic. From the cutest, most conservative ballet pumps, to full-throttle, super-high pumps. All made in Venice. I love the snakeskin above, and the cute brogue/golf-shoe influence on the pumps is lovely. They also do some pretty fabulous bags, too. But if you're a golfer, this brand is really really good - very stylish golf shoes:What with Dior and Unuetzer... I really must take up golf. For more, go to http://www.unuetzer.de
One of my favorite Portugese designers, Vieira showed at Sao Paulo FW last year and I totally fell in love with his Summer 2007 collection. Beaaauuutiful. Such light, flowing fabrics - all really silky and often with a luxurious sheen. Beautiful monochrome prints - and not the boring standard ones we see so many of these days, but more exotic African-themes and zebra print. Touches of gold and silver add to the subtle and chic glamour. In short, these clothes are undeniably hot, but equally chic. Yummy.Left: this outfit has almost a preppy feel. Far right: glamour wrapped up in a kaftan - I love clothes which look as much at home on the beach as they do on the red carpet... well, maybe you wouldn't wear it there, but you know what I mean... The wide sashes are really flattering and make an otherwise unfitted shape so feminine. I also love the deep V neckline and wide 'sleeves'. However those shorts (left)? A definite no-no unless you have legs like a sparrow:http://www.miguelvieira.
I know, yet another German designer I'm going on about... but, really, the Germans have style. And clearly, from my running poll on the most stylish country you've been too, some of you peops think so too. Soooo... Talbot Runhof. Based in Munich, with designs by Johnny Talbot and Adrian Runhof. The clothes? Very simple, quite mature, fairly plain block colours. But stylish as a result. Here's a glimpse of their Spring/Summer 07 collection.Great earthy colour, and the delicate silver/grey combination with lace-trim works very well, too: Great off-the-shoulder top. Such a flattering design, it's a shame we don't see it more often. Not so sure about the skirt, though: These guys are really big in Germany, perhaps because their designs are so easy to wear. They don't really date quickly because they aren't too trend-orientated. Which is great, often. That's not to say they're not fashiony enough - there's plenty of (soft) metallics - gold and silver - and some high waist pants (a
Such refreshing, pretty little dresses in SS 07, it's hard to believe. With cute little broderie anglaise detailing, and yet so simple; you really should check out Luisa Beccaria's collection at www.luisabeccaria.com. All really feminine, but quite varied - from really flowing, loose chiffon, to super-fitted, really structured waists and skirt shapes. From dreamy whites and pale naturals, to bold bright red. Very rarely do you see a bright orange dress like this working well with pale skin: Look how fluid and sexy the left dress is, without exposing much skin: I think the thing I liked least were the platform shoes - OK, they're really en vogue, but in my opinion they don't suit the dress styles at all. I also thought some of the floral patterns were verging on dull - you can't really get away with a mummy-ish pattern and a boring cut.
Chandran started his own label in 1993, and is now one of the most popular designers in Malaysia - working for royalty and other impressive names. In essence, the clothes are wearable, classic, feminine, but also with a twist of modernity in his East/West mix. I think the inspiration from China and India etc have provided the brilliant exotic detailing in some pieces - like embroidery and mandarin necks. However we definitely see the West, too (particularly in the ugly sun visors in his S/S 07 collection, below). And as for the modern twist? Notice those broad clear perspex waist belts? Not cheap, just interesting - a hard thing to achieve with that material. So, move over babydolls and get some of these beautifully fitted, waist-enhancing dresses. www.bernardchandran.com/
If you want to ride the maxi-dress trend this summer, try T-bags. Here's one of their 2007 full lengths: But they're not just about long - they also do short really well: Another great thing is the price - the bottom dress can be yours for around $180 at http://www.pinkmascara.com/ where you'll find zillions of other fab clothes.
Another great Spring 2007 collection was from South African designer Karen Ter Morshuizen for Lunar. You won't find clothes much dreamier or floaty than these. They look really pure. This brand has been around since the mid-90s, and is really quite natural-looking, with plenty of texture yet the colours are very simple and not at all busy. This makes it look luxurious and contemporary, without appearing too trendy (a good thing).
One of the most disappointing collections for me for Spring was the Calvin Klein - which is normally one of my favs. On the other hand, I was seriously impressed by Verrier. All the clothes were so... refreshing. Lovely colours, and really womanly shapes. Yellows, whites, copper, oranges, through to cobalt and black, even a touch of navy. I love the shape and lengths of these skirts, and the ruffles at the bottom are super flattering. The gorgeous sheen is very luxurious, too. Interesting high-waist yellow shorts and cigarette pants were also a big feature but aren't on my list of wearables, though. There were also some interesting brogue-like shoes, but some very pretty metallic sandals and platforms.
This designer was a hit at South Africa fashion week last year where she showed her Spring 2007 collection - and you can see why. Quoted as being SA's answer to Calvin Klein, there are plenty of white and cream, with camel, light green and pink highlights. Very pretty, but also quite casual: Very... easy clothes. http://www.colleeneitzen.co.za/
Recently I've noticed that I seem to have a thing for natural, earthy and pearly colours. Ivory, cream, beige, camel... I don't know if it's a good thing but I really seem to be focussing on these, and so I just can't help but love the colours of the Rachel Roy SS 07 clothes. This latest collection has more recently been drawn to our attention by the appearance of the Layla yellow dress on the red carpet - worn by more than one A-lister - which, you can see, is pretty gorgeous and so on trend:However that isn't my favourite piece. Here is my pick...I love the sheen on the far-right trousers: Gorgeous detail on the back: The left dress and the scarf/belt combination are brilliant:
So, I couldn't resist showing some of her 2006 pieces, but here is the latest, S/S 2007 collection. Supposedly, these pieces were meant to 'be green', with South American and African inspiration. Natural looks, flowing ponchos, tunics, kaftans... flowing, and with the occassional moving detail. I also love the way she plays with transparent fabrics, to add a hint of allure to an otherwise loose and fairly unstructured look. Excited yet?Great earthy colours, and the yellow dress bellow is so natural in form. The kaftan on the right is really beautiful:I love these - and, like last year, we see that spiders-web style crochet thrown over, which I like very much:I'm not 100% sure about the strange jumper-thing below - it's not too pretty - but the dress underneath it is:
If you're interested in Italian fashion, the Laura Biagiotti Roma line has to be one of the most quintessentially Italian styles. First, though, let's look at the main collection - which is actually from 06 but still really represents her general look, I think: Isn't this dress heavenly?: Beautiful detailing on this suit: Another brilliant look - ultra feminine:Naiive white mixed with a good helping of Italian sexyness in that open-weave crochet: Lots of lovely pale colours, gorgeously put together outfits. For her 2007 Spring/Summer, please see the next post...
We all enjoy a bit of luxury, and cashmere is pretty high on my desirables list. Near the top of my specificly cashmere wish list is Lutz and Patmos clothing. It's all so drapey, so enveloping; it just begs you to wear it. And, of course, what the cashmere wants, the cashmere gets. This is comfort with a capital C, and style with an equally big S. The best thing about this brand is that it's so obviously luxe, but there's no branding. You aren't paying for a label, unlike with so many high-end products today - you're actually paying for and getting great design and quality. So, anyway - here's the goods:I love batwings - they're so flattering. These cuts are what cashmere is made for. The colour shown here is great, too: Each season they get a guest designer to come in and create something, and here are some of my past favourites. In fall 2003, Christy Turlington designed this great top: Then, in fall 2005 Sofia Coppola created this, which I (and many others, at the time) adore,
Are you looking for some bold, glamorous, up-to-trend shoes? Try Italian label Casadei. Similarly, these shoes are for bold, glamorous women. They aren't for hiding in...My favs are probably these bejewelled two. I love the detail and colors against the black, and the straps are the most flattering:The straps are also another great point of this shoe. So tiny, and the heel shape, the diamante buckle, the colour... all work so well together:I love this detail:I also love the toe of this shoe:This shoe comes from their Fresh Paint S/S 2007 collection, but I would only wear such a... dramatic shoe in white, beige or black: I'm still not sure that I like all the 'dancing' style shoes that we're seeing so much of lately. Sure, they may be comfortable, but flattering? I don't know: Another great shape: And, if you're looking for flats, perhaps Casadei isn't the best place, however they do have a few loafers and drivers that are pretty cute:www.casadei.com/ I-S-F
If you're looking for some casual, slightly preppy, slightly boho clothes, check out Henry Cotton's. For Spring / Summer 2007, the look is really light and easy: I wouldn't wear all these together, but some parts would be great:My favourite white trousers brown belt combination - so Ralph Lauren: I suppose the only look that doesn't really fit to this collection is this (although I still really like it):All really cute and casual. www.henrycottons.it/ I-S-F
I don't usually comment on couture-ish designs, but I think these pieces are really just so lovely, it an effortless sort of way. Ms Yau has had her own label since '99, and does made-to-order dresses using fabrics from knits to leather and fur. Looking at her Spring / Summer 2007 collection I really thought the gowns looks so elegant in a loose, floaty way, and the colours are really dreamy: This peach with the antique-lace shrug is so, so pretty: The hints of silver through some dresses is really luxurious: This dress is stunning - almost iridescent:Cecilia Yau is obviously quite heavy on the embroidery in this collection, and the colours are really very varied. Only a really talented designer could make a colour like this mossy green work well! However I think many of these quite busy designs and colours would best suit tanned or darker skins...So, yes, I'm a fan. http://www.cecilia-yau.com/ I-S-F
This designer is from Japan, but now is Singapore-based, and her pieces really emboyd true feminism and romanticism. I challenge anyone not to fall in love with these. The Spring / Summer 2007 collection really reminds me of white-washed chic Mediterranean coastal towns. Very dreamy:The headbands are brilliant. And each piece has a small detail which makes it interesting, however they're all fabulously simple and elegant. I-S-F
I truly love this brand - it's been one of my favorites ever since I first found it in Germany several years ago. It's classic style at its best. Even the little trademark horseshoe is perfect. Here are some clothes:Aren't they all so well coordinated? So stylish? The clothes really do say, 'I'm an intelligent, independent woman, but I'm also conscious of how I look, and I'm actually pretty attractive'. Or something like that.Bags - the little trademark is so adorable on the bags and accessories - in a similar way that I love the Gucci snaffle. It's instantly recognisable but isn't a name and actually looks good. This has to be my favourite:Belts: again, more of the simple horse shoe. Very pretty. I do love a cream belt with a strong gold buckle:Shoes: All nice and elegant, but also sexy heels. Watches: these are some of my favorite items in the whole collection: The middle white and gold is particularly chic. For more Aigner, go to http://www.aignermunich.com/. There are, ho
It's a shame really, because these clothes are often considered to be more for older women, with the concessions usually being tucked in with other, more mature brands. In fact, some pieces are surprisingly modern (yet stylish), and I think can be worn by anyone who carries them well enough. Take a look at this cardi:Reminds me totally of Ralph Lauren.Generally, the clothes tend to be romantic but quite simple, uncluttered, and this season there's plenty of the old nautical look coming in. Plenty of blue, red and white, then - but also earthier tones, too. I love these cropped trousers - I have a pair from last summer's Zara which have those cute gold buttons and a gold chain at the back. They're great because they work with so much, and add a smarter touch to an often-casual length of pant:I think the below look is brilliant:I also got the feeling that there's a bit of a Sienna influence in some outfits:I'm not 100% sure that I appreciate the above look, but it's interesting
This Belgian brand produces some great clothes - I love the styles available for Spring / Summer 2007. The colours are really simple but well-matched. It's classic but young. Have a look.I love this combination of loose all-whites with a skinny scarf: Again, more all-white with a contrasting colour:For smarter wear, there's this interesting green dress and bag. I'm only hoping there's nice shoes to match... Adorable jacket - great collar, great colour, great cut - and such a perfect match with the jeans. I love this type of combination - it's so versatile, and makes you look effortlessly chic:Please do look here http://www.tintoretto-fashion.be/. I-S-F
The blatant sucking up to Gisele Budchen by Stefanel is a tad annoying and desparate-seeming. It's also true that there are some hideous shapes, ugly neon colors and... oh, no - leggings in the Spring / Summer 2007 collection. However, some of the clothes are really rather pretty. Beautiful coat - very simple but lovely: I adore this combination of high-waist floaty white dress, with white/grey or camel short cardigan. I'm normally not really into purple, but this collection works bold colours so well together, it's almost wearable as is: Again - more strong colours that have been cleverly coordinated: Cute jacket, cute skirt: There was also broderie anglaise on dresses - which I love. Plenty of African / safari style clothing, too, although those extra pockets are really attractive to me. Some metallics, too many leggings, floral, greys, peaches... many very different themes. Not to mention the hot pink and the patent red trenches. Ugh. So, yes - some worked, some definitely didn'
If you want some new styling inspiration, head to http://www.liola.it/. If you look past some 80's hair and polka dots, and the spelling mistakes, you'll find some great looks from this Italian family company. Here are some of the best:I also love this young dress from the Botto line:I-S-F
I'm hugely fond of my go-with everything, classic and sophisticated shoes in plain and neutral colours. However it can get a bit boring. That's why I so adore this brand of footwear - it's perfect for something more exciting, and a shoe that you can truly fall in love with. They may be highly impractical, can only be worn with white/cream or with blue jeans, but they're terribly pretty. I was really in heaven when I came across this display of some of her current collection.Just look at the bag behind them, too: Here are some of my particular favourites from her S/S 07 collection: And how about this for a brilliant bridal shoe?:Totally drool-worthy! http://www.beverlyfeldmanshoes.com/main.htm I-S-F
I love this brand to death. It's great for older and younger women, and the shapes and cuts are very kind and flattering. Moreover, I love how feminine the clothes are - some of the dresses are gorgeous, but the suits are beautiful too. The fabrics are fabulous, as often are the colours. Here are some of my favs from the Spring / Summer 07 collection:From the Pearl groupThis dress is fabulous for showing a bit of cleavage and brilliant legs, without revealing the upper arms as well:ChainsHarder to wear but beautiful in a casual, summer way: I love these trousers, esp. paired with the cute cropped jacket: Oasis OrchidsI love this colour, and it's brilliant with pastel blue. The trouser shape is also perfect: Again, more of the nice shade with blue and pink. The dress works so well with the bag and shoes - not too girly: Tres belle: This is a gorgeous outfit - from the neckline to the bag and shoes:Out of AfricaWhile I find the leopard prints a bit too much, these two are very pretty:
I love this brand. If you want something really luxurious and beautiful, try this. It's owned by Inditex (like Zara), and has been around since 1985. It's style is classic but modern, if that's possible. It's quality. There's also the Soft line of more casual wear. I love both. For more, go to www.massimodutti.com/. I-S-F
If you're a Zara addict like me, you'll be happy to know that I've found something that seems, to me, remarkably similar - Cos. And, as a bonus, it's all really well priced. So far, there are stores mainly in Germany, and a few spread in Belgium, Holland and the UK. Have a look at a few pieces from their current collection: For more clothes and accessories, check out http://www.cosstores.com/. I-S-F
What recently really drew my attention to this brand was his flat silver pump that is so sleek, simple and elegant and truly goes with so much. There are some other amazing flats in this collection, and I love his ballerinas, like Capsule:He also has some great almond-toe platform pumps, like the Dais shoes, and the peep-toe Expump. I also love the rafia-heeled Eloise heels, which are right on-trend with the chunkier heel and patent leather. That's the thing - this brand caters for both those looking for really trendy shoes and for those who want something a bit more classic. For something more delicate, the Bonanza is very special: And the Fever stillettoes are amazing:There are some tres moderne shoes in the wedges category - more patent, and plenty of perspex. Some are nicer than others - there's just a bit too much going on with a few shoes, like the Miramar. I'm really fond of the cleaner Rollpump though:The Cachet is also great:There's also lots of espadrilles, and there's ev
This Spring/Summer RTW collection is so varied, it's funny. From Versace-esque bikinis, to some really quite conservative coats and trousers -it wasn't really quite Spring or Summer. In saying that, though, there are some great pieces - I do like the giraffe print, and the coats are elegant:These belts are really stylish - modern but elegant:I love the rope handle of this tote: Gorgeous colour and shape - so practical: http://www.borbonese.com/main_flash.html I-S-F
Here's something fun. I usually go for classic, go-with-everything bags which aren't designed to make statements, they're just meant to look good. If, however, you're in a childish mood, or you want something to liven up a simple outfit, try Braccialini. OK, so the bag and the clothes do have to match colour- and style-wise, but still, these could work. Either that, or you could hang them on your wall. Yup, they're that pretty:However, if you're after something a bit more... normal, but equally delightful, this brand has other great treats: Isn't this fabulous?: By Tua by Braccialini: There's also the Mariella Burani line, which has some very stylish bags, too:I don't really like the Vivienne Westwood line for Braccialini, though - a bit garish. And isn't this bag really similar to Vuitton's shopper last season? The really ugly blue check one?:But, if you really want to play, have a look at their Looney Tunes line. Very crazy, but quite cute. Look at this little clutch: Swee
OK, I'm creating a bit of an Italian theme today, but I just couldn't resist sharing this brand. More specifically, their shoes. I'm a huge fan of flat but bejewelled sandals. I love them for summer evenings - they can look glamorous and beautiful without having to deal with heels and everything associated with them. So, here are some of my favourites from Vic Matiè:I love the straps and the combination of the dark leather with the big silver sparkles: OK, these have a slight heel but they're too cute too miss:And these aren't sandles at all, but I like them, though I'm not too sure why:There are lots of nice higher heels, too, and some cute cowboy boots. The bags I'm not all too keen on (trying to be a bit too trendy and modern), and there are some shoes which look a bit clunky and Irregular Choice-ish... but for Italian shoe wear, this is cute and cheap. http://www.vicmatie.it/ I-S-F
If you feel like something really luxurious but not hugely branded, go to Italian label Loro Piana. The company and clothes ooze old-style class - they've been around since 1800 and are now the largest cashmere manufacturer. Quality clothes, and the Spring/Summer 2007 is looking good, too:OK, these clothes are maybe aimed at more... 'mature', stylish women, but I think anyone who's in their early twenties or later could pull it off successfully - you just need to have suitable accessories, which they kindly provide. Go to http://www.loropiana.com/index_eng.php for more. I-S-F
Anne Fontaine, the white shirt lady. Very French, very stylish white shirts. I've been catching up with her F/W 2006/2007 collection, and it's quite impressive. As Anne herself says, the white shirt can take you anywhere (as we see below) - from wearing with jeans to a very smart dinner We all need several clean pressed white white shirts in our wardrobe. Of course, there's more to it than that - lace, jacquard and embroidery are incorporated into these stunning but simple designs. I'm a real fan of volume on the sleeve, as it makes arms look skinnier. I especially like short puff-sleeved shirts, such as these:I also love shirts with ruffle-fronts or bows, or another detail, like these two: These two are so elegant. See what I mean about the skirts and jeans - both work so well. Gorgeous top on the left: Really sweet embroidery - nothing too serious:Look at the detail on the sleeve - so pretty: This is such a romantic top:I love the one on the right:These shorts are brilliant: I
So it looks like the metallic trend is going to be with us for the entirity of 2007. And I'm quite happy about it. As I've mentioned in my (many) previous posts on silvers and golds and all things shiny, I do find muted metals very flattering for skin, and more liquid style metals are great on small bags and accessories (I'm still dying for a silver miroir Pochette). One designer who really latched onto the metallics trend is Reem Acra. Her collections are essential evening and bridal wear, with a bit of daywear, and some of the pieces in the current collections are really gorgeous. All designers claim to pay great attention to detail (in order to justify the often ludicrous price tags), but in Acra's case this does appear to be true. She has a lot of embroidery (which I have to admit I'm not hugely keen on), and the clothes look quality and luxe. Style: classic romantic and feminine, but with more than a touch of glamour and modernity. Sounds good, right? Have a look at some of m
I just love this guy's clothes. The below is actually on his Spring 2006 collection, which are so beautiful. I don't know if it's the giant pearls that do it, but the outfits are so unbelievably sophisticated and elegant. These are simply real, wearable, beautiful clothes. This palest-of-pinks colours is so very feminine, and the sheen adds a touch of modernity. THe halter and neckline are so flattering. This dress is gorgeous for summer, and the belt and pearls are brilliant. Making a grey-haired woman and teeny children look good? This guy is a master. These back details featured very often, and are very pretty and feminine. I'm certainly not a purple type of girl, but these two shades combined in this way could almost sway me... Again, the shape and colour of this dress are so lovely. This is a gorgeous outfit. Very flattering, Please take a look at http://www.charlesnolan.com/ for more of this collection. His Spring and Fall 2007 are OK, too - perhaps not quite so brilliant, b
I know, I've already posted about this as a best brand, but I am still amazed by its turn around (or perhaps I was just ignorant before). I wrote of the fall/winter 2006, and now it's time for spring and summer 2007 collections: they're great, again. There's the nod to the 60's and 70's, sharp finishes and clean lines, all quite romantic. Colours are quite muted (think beige, taupe and pastels with the omnipresent black, white and cream), with bits of solid brights here and there. Unfortunately you'll just have to make do with some rubbish photos shot on my cell this afternoon in a store - these are some of my favourite pieces, which would take you from smart day-wear to a wedding, with ease. This (above) ensemble is just so fresh. Featuring poppies (which are everywhere this season), but in a really feminine and almost childish way. Very pretty.I love this polo because the small details really make it very chic (and the material feels heavenly). Also available in black, I think.
Here's an interesting brands for you - http://www.divacorsets.com/ . Don't be scared by the name - there are dresses, too, some of which are really rather nice. As long as you don't go too extreme (i.e. avoid leopard print) and aren't put off by the Gwen Stefani-styling, there are pieces which could look really great for a semi-formal event - lots of pencil fits, and some quite romantic dresses. I love the colours of this dress - it would be perfect for a summer wedding. There's also a corset in fuschia or pale green in the same range - they sound awful but are actually very sweet. This is quite an elegant courtezan-style dress, also available in black.
I think what I love most about her Spring 2007 collection is the South American influence. The earthy colours, with splashes of pale blue, coral and gold, and rich fabrics. Great details with strong but simple belts and sashes. I just adore the long sheath dresses - the height of elegance. Combinations of fitted and flowing, with waist accentuation This (above) has to be one of my favourite dresses - ever. Everything about it works. The summer collection is a bit sharper and a bit... younger or more for the city. Pretty different, actually. I do like some pieces, like the printed tunics and beautiful shirt dresses, turquoise/camel coordinations, and Pucci-style tops teamed with neutral skinny skirts. For Autumn 2007, there were some fabulous monochrome and silver dresses, very long and flowing, very flattering. Some trousers and jackets were slightly masculine for me, but there were still some ethnic prints incorporated which is great for an Autumn collection. This dress is gorgeous - the
I love designers who make clothes to make women look beautiful. I know that sounds silly, but they're actually quite a rarity. You get designers who want their clothes to cause a stir just because they're so bizarre. You get designers who make women look slutty. You get designers who lose all sense of practicality. One designer who seems to get it right is Canada's David Dixon. He's been on the go for more than ten years, and has scooped many awards as evidence of how women appreciate his designs. His principles include:unusual and luxury fabrics and texturessimple silhouette, sometimes with bold and unusual linesunique accentsglamour and romanceelegance and femininitywaist accentuation / 50's styles: fuller skirts, fitted topsneutral colours with brighter accentsdetailing, not following trends too strictlyTempted? Let's have a peek at his clothes. In both 2006 and 2007, his Spring/Summer collections both have a lot of monochrome. Many dresses were really very beautful and so wea
I adore this brand. Both the ready to wear and the Roma collections are brilliant this season, as too is the R.E.D. line.Pret-a-porter: so elegant. Lots of ruffles contrast the otherwise really slim shapes. Some pieces really accentuate the waist, whereas others hang straight. Soft ecru, crisp whites and true Valentino reds. Chic, huh?Valentino Roma: more sporty, but really stylish city-wear. I love the colour of the skirt (above) combined with the white and beige. This is a great holiday look - the loose shirt really complements the straight-cut shorts.R.E.D. Valentino: these clothes are really so simple, but have one or two really gorgeous details that sets them apart. Normally I'm not such a fan of trapeze jackets, but the simplicity of this (above) and those cute sleeves are brilliant.Last year I picked up a couple of coral-print pieces from this line: I really love this full-length dress - it hangs amazingly, and has a beautiful deep V at both the back and front. I love cut out
A relatively new arrival to the American fashion scene is this collection of sportswear for women by Ms Burch. I love these clothes because they're elegant, classic and smart-casual. It's also great the way ethnic details are included in designs, and that touch of internationalism really makes the clothes more chic. I think Tory's worked at Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang and Loewe, so it's no surprise that she's made a line for stylish women who are trend-aware but not strict trend-followers. So the price isn't that cheap, but compared to high-end products of similar design, they aren't bad. We're talking around $300 for a dress, and $200 for sandals. So, how's the Spring collection? To keep it trendy, there are bold prints, touches of yellow and a good sprinkling of black and white. There are some very pretty tunics, and well-fitted polos. Also, black and white is used on some really chic coats and shifts. I suppose my biggest complaint is that some of the clothes are a touch frumpy
Beautiful, beautiful clothes. Please do look at http://www.laundrybyshellisegal.com/ to see the entire Spring collection. It's a little bit Paris & Nicole, but the pieces are still great. Yellow, turquoise, green, white, camel, coral... the colours are perfect, and the shapes and flowing and flattering, womanly shapes. Many of my favourite items in the collection are dresses, and also they have some great shorts. One of my favourite dresses of those shown here has to be the one above - so feminine. This dress screams goddess, don't you think? This (above) is such a perfect summer day dress. And who could resist this yellow number? For something a bit more wintry, and city-like, I quite like the below. I'm just not sure about the trousers - they're like cropped tracksuit pants.Overall, I think this is a brilliant brand, and it's consistently good - so rare! I-S-F
I've always loved Barbour, however in recent years there have been huge improvements. Styles have become more fitted, shorter... generally more elegant and hip. The UK's Project Catwalk was even involved - I think last year - in designing a piece for their collection, and I believe it sold really well, despite being modern and a bit radical. The classic Barbour is of course the wax jacket. The Classic Bedale is my favourite wax, but it has to be in a really teeny size in order to look unbulky. The best of the collection are, for me, the flyweight quilts (though I also prefer these small). One is the Shaped Flyweight Quilt - Short (right). This comes in millions of colours (well, at least ten), although these are very oddly named - celery? olivine? hemp? Hmmm. Another quilt is the Utility Flyweight (left). This is a bit more traditional, particularly in the lovely olive (although it's still available in Rosewater, supposedly). I really like this style for a casual jaunt in the country
Browsing on www.amatas.com, an Asian fashion network site, I came across this seemingly small-scale designer who showed at Hong Kong F/W FW 07. I love these clothes - they're so chic, so sophisticated, so classy. Yummy. Very Chanel. Check it out at http://www.amatas.com/collections/HKWF07/HKWF07Designers/BioletteHKWF07.htm . Perhaps Mr Amatas could contact me about the use of his photos for my site?
Wow. I so wish I'd seen their store in the Victoria Wharf when in Cape Town, because these clothes are really beautiful. On their website (http://www.sungoddess.co.za/) they have their 05/06 collection listed, which is amazing. Then a bit of (slightly tacky) swimwear, then... oh, my... the Luxury Collection. So nice. Bold, elegant, unique. And I love how the South Africa colours are incorporated in some pieces, and with some really natural chunky jewellery. This brand is by Thando and Vanya Mangaliso, and supposedly they entered fashion to promote their country, and not for the sake of fashion itself. What a brilliant job they're doing.
