      Proposition 8 Backlash Across America

Backlash against housing bailout continues to grow
Ever since the issue of sub-prime and Option ARM loans arose to lead the housing market into its historic crash, I've been asking the simple question, "Why would someone sign something they didn't read or understand?" One common reply is, "Well, not everyone's like you, some people simply relied on their brokers and agents to explain it to them."Fine. But there's a growing consensus among the anti-bailout crowd that you can't claim to be a responsible adult in the U.S. today and not read what you sign. From a story at CNNMoney:Why should American taxpayers have to pay to bailout reckless lenders and borrowers? The biggest loser in this case is CNN.According to the Financial Times, CNN has had to move its Beijing office. Due to their "biased" reporting, China's netizens took it upon themselves to rectify the situation. Someone posted the office phone number and address online and encouraged people to complain. Someone had apparently taken an original article written by Ming Pao and tacked on Gillian’s name to it before reposting the content. This rigged article was cited by many websites as a source, falsely stating Gillian as a hypocrite who didn’t practice what she preached. It seems idol hatred can go a long way, or maybe there are just too many bored people out there. The most interesting question raised though from this incidence is how much can readers trust news reported on the web, especially when anyone, including a 6 year old, can be blogging nowadays? The week after the so-called “truce” between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama was full of more implicitly racist language by both Hillary and Bill Clinton. It is shocking that even after the Obama camp and media personalities called the Clintons on their implicit racist rhetoric that they actually stepped up their racist attacks while campaigning in South Carolina – a state with a large black voting population. The tactics backfired in South Carolina, where more than half of the voters in Saturday’s Democratic primary were black, and three-quarters of those black voters supported Obama. The result: the largest landslide in any nominating contest this year for Obama. But the results might obfuscate the reality of what appears to be the Clintons’ strategy – to make

We do understand that polls and contests will occasionally be seen as 'unfair' in the eyes of some people...A couple of readers correctly brought up an issue regarding the solicitation of votes by some in the '10 most influential bloggers' poll we are currently running on Home Rejuvenation. Short of declaring this entire poll as meaningless just because of a few rare cases of self-promotion, I only have this to say - there's often a fine line between being influential and being popular. But I'm actually quite sure that someone who is not popular with his or her 'fans' will never ever be able to influence them, much less get them to vote for something they don't truthfully like. So, I trust readers nowadays are smart and rational enough to know what they are doing before clicking that 'send' button.Nevertheless, as if we cannot say enough, do vote with your heart, people. Psychiatrists used to regard bipolar disorder as a disease that begins in young adulthood, but now some diagnose it in children scarcely out of diapers, treating them with powerful antipsychotic medications based on Biederman's work."We need to treat these children. Blog-Blond Ponders Blog Backlash Plus A Test
Class: I have been pondering the subject of having your blog become TOO popular. Does a backlash happen when your name or your blog appear everywhere? Backlash is the phenomena which happens to celebrities, Hollywood stars and politicians when their stories and faces appear on too many magazine covers, too many television shows, tabloid papers, etc. A backlash results from their overexposure, and their former popularity with their fans (or constituents) morphs into hostility, disdain and snarky remarks. Mind you, some of these folks have it coming, but for the most part, I feel that their overexposure is the main culprit for the fans/loyalists/crowd turning on them. Witness in recent times the fall from grace of Michael Jackson, Paris Hilton, and Britney Spears to name a few. Does the same thing happen to bloggers?I believe it does! Here's how I feel and think when I see an OVEREXPOSED BLOGGER: Disgust! No! Not them again! Cover up! Arggggh! Merely reading their name or news about th

      House Price Backlash
The media over the past few years, in reporting inflation and rumours about it’s true levels, has worked on the general principle that rises in the prices of essential commodities are a bad thing, and that the government and Gordon Brown are cleverly trying to hide them from us by sleight of hand.  There is one basic necessity commodity, however, that has always escaped this consensus, that commodity of course is housing.  As evidenced by various sensationalist headlines, like the one seen on Friday in the Daily Express shown here, it seems that  continuing inflation in the price of homes is news to be “toasted” and “celebrated” by Britons, and this can only be a good thing for the country.  It certainly helps Gordon appear to be doing a bang up job anyway.  Or does it? A similar headline appeared in the Telegraph on Friday stating that rises in house prices are now outstripping earned income from regular jobs for many people.  Why work hard at your

Can corporations afford a backlash over political correctness?

All remaining Idol finalists don't deserve critical backlash
Today, Philippine Idol Updates wishes to play devil's advocate. A lot of discussion on online and offline media have played up allegations that finalists Miguel Mendoza and Jan Nieto are running well-oiled voting machines powered by their respective camps that they are virtual shoo-ins for the final two slots. Regardless of whether or not these allegations are true, here's a thought for all of us: at the end of the day, Philippine Idol is a televised talent show, and these four remaining finalists were selected because the judges felt they had talent. In the eyes of Ryan Cayabyab, Pilita Corrales, and Francis Magalona, Mendoza, Nieto, Gian Magdangal, and Mau Marcelo have talent. Just because other people's bets were booted out earlier does not nullify the fact that the remaining four are there because they received enough votes - whether it's from twenty people voting a thousand times or a twenty thousand persons voting once each - to make it to the top four. We appeal to the human

      The Multiculturalism Act's backlash
It appears that for the eulogists of the Multiculturalism Act, which came into effect in 1971, criticizing the Canadian doctrine of multiculturalism rationally with nuances is something racist. Really? Did you know that racism is actually a theory of hatred that advocates the superiority of an ethnic group or a nation? To be very honest with you, the Multiculturalism Act has a backlash on the Canadian society, because it depends on stereotypes and “[it ensures] that ethnic groups will preserve their distinctiveness in a gentle and insidious form of cultural apartheid”, according to Canadian writer Neil Bissoondath. This man also adds that multiculturalism leads “an already divided society down the path to further social divisiveness.”My doubts about the Multiculturalism Act started to grow when I started to keep both of my eyes on what’s going on in Canadian politics in high school. Unfortunately, the size of my doubts about multiculturalism doubled because of the behaviour o

      Lexington Backlash
Hmmm ... I managed without a whole lot of ceremony to lose every game this past weekend. I don't know that I've ever lost every game in a tournament before and as one of the top rated players the 'numbers' took a big hit too. The only seemingly good part about the weekend event was that GM Gregory Kaidanov showed up. It's been awhile since I saw him last but seeing him on a day I was not having f
