The pasta salad can be a thing of beauty or a complete failure. I have made both and I have had both. The pasta salads that are served at the cafeteria where I work are consistently bland, dry, and with overcooked mushy noodles. What’s worse is that they charge for them by the ounce!!! So I pay $5 for what amounts to little more than a side dish serving of what masquerades as pasta sala

Today was one of those days. I felt like I was herding cats. Every time I thought I had a handle on something, a new situation arose. Not that my job is brain surgery or rocket science, far from it actually... but today... whoa. The best part of my day was this meal. I love how fresh fish combined with fresh, clean-flavored ingredients make me feel like I'm eating "spa food." You know what I'm talking about... a refreshing plate you'd have after your aromatherpy hot stone mud massage with rose petals. Because, believe me, that is how I felt when eating this. The fish was so simply done with salt and pepper that the salsa really had the opportunity to shine. The sweet-tartness of the blood orange combined with the creamy avocado and the zingy red pepper in a way that tasted like fate... as t

You had me at the avocado dressing. The folks at Cookthink won me over quick and easy. I am a sucker for a different, yet tasty burger. Especially one that lets me smear it with avocado goodness. What can I say, I'm a slut for them. (Avocados AND burgers, really.)I don't normally like my food salty, but it did indeed go really well with the creamy dressing - just like they said it would! We skipped the tomatoes, but I think their cool juiciness would have been a nice touch. Served with roasted red potatoes, this was a delightful dinner. My only suggestion would be to up this whole thing by half and I'll tell you why - these burgers shrink. Not one of the four burgers was very big in the end, and one was even very sadly small (but hideously cute!). So make more - or just plan on them being l

Common Name: AvocadoVernacular Name: Avocado pear, Alligator pear, Aguacate, PaltaScientific Name: Persea americanaSpecimens From: New ZealandSpecimens Weight: 165 gm (Average weight per fruit)Avocado, a very common fruit in North and South America as it is believed to be originated from Mexico. Back in the ancient time of the Aztec, they believed this fruit helped in fertility and thereby calling it "ahuacatl", meaning "testicle" because it shaped like one. What a name to begin with and an embarrassing one too. Since it is native to a Spanish-speaking country, the Spanish name, "aguacate" derives from it and in turn, the English name comes from the Spanish name. All the three names rhyme somehow, don't they? Up to today, Mexico is still the top producing country in the world, with the run
Avocado is considered to be one of the most healthiest fruits (yes, it is a fruit) due its huge content of minerals and vitamins. However, healthiest is it may be, if you search the web you wont find too many avocado recipes. The reason, to my opinion, is that the best way to serve an avocado is the KIS (keep it simple) way; sliced with a bit of lemon and a bit of sea salt.
Avocado has only one annoying thing though; it gets darken when sliced and put away for more then 15 minutes and serving dark avocado is anything but appetizer. One way to deal with it is to cover the sliced avocado with plenty of lemon however, no one likes too much lemon in the avocado for it is the avocado we want to taste. So, here is a great tip for all avocado lovers which works for all avocado recipes. It is so simple you’re not going to believe it is actually works. To avoid the avocado from getting darken, just put the avocado pit together with the avocado slices. That it!!! Try it and be amazed!!

Eating a Veggie Delight at Subway is part of my staple diet, and most of the times I get tempted to add some avocado onto it, but I hold myself back thinking its a very high-calorie food....Anyways, I've heard so many positives and negatives about this interesting fruit that its hard to catgorise it as Good or Bad. In Pune, XI Std is pretty much a year of rest after the grueling SSC exams. As a fresh college student who could borrow my brother's M80 (if anyone remembers those) when he didn't need it I would always visit the Pune University fountain. It was a great hangout for guys my age as we could park our vehicles and to watch the St. Joseph's girls. Apparently, that was an extremely popular pastime. The University fountain (for those old enough to remember it) was the place to hangout for some cheap eats and fresh air. It was also a great place for love birds returning from their rendezvous behind the tall grass patches at Pashan Lake to stop for a quick bite. The mist from the 3 story tall fountain kept the area cool and fresh and the many stalls provided the good, cheap eats to good, cheap kids. Sweet corn soup one by two, Dosa, Bhurjee Pao, the mysterious blue van that provided hot vadas and parathas. Sadly, the University fountain was demolished by an over-zealous and most probably cor
I love avocados. They are great on salads, sandwiches or just by themselves with a little salt, pepper and cayenne. Rich in fiber and healthy mono-unsaturated fat, avocados are packed with numerous micro-nutrients that help to lower your LDL (bad cholesterol). Did you know that avocados contain more blood pressure lowering potassium than bananas? Just be careful with the portion size. You only have to consume 1/4 of an avocado to get all these benefits. The two crabs we shared on Open That Bottle Night had me wanting more… So last week I picked up a small container of lump crabmeat along with other items for my new favorite salad. For the dressing, squeeze 1/8 of a grapefruit into a bowl. Add a splash of white vinegar and a splash of white wine (sparkling if you have it): this time I used the Clos LaChance Rose’. Whisk with salt and pepper–I also chose to add a bit of minced garlic–then stream in olive oil until the dressing is emulsified. Then mix the greens and add sliced avocado, small pieces of grapefruit, and the lump crabmeat, with crumbles of goat cheese on the periphery. I drank the same wine with the salad that was in the dressing, but secretly I was wishing for Sauvignon Blanc.
Therefore, the next night I had the same salad. Only this time I paired it with a 2006 Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough. I love New Zealand for its SB: acidic, grassy, and tons of fruit. And this one did not disapp
Avocado (Persea americana) is a tree and the fruit of that tree, classified in the flowering plant family Lauraceae. It is native to Central America and Mexico. The fruit is sometimes called an avocado pear or alligator pear, due to its shape and rough green skin. The avocado tree does not tolerate freezing temperatures, and so can be grown only in subtropical and tropical climates.A year-round fruit, avocados are delicious hot or cold, in soups, salads, stir-fries and as a healthier alternative to butter, sour cream and other dips and spreads. Avocados are cholesterol-free, sodium-free, low in saturated fat, and a good source of monounsaturated fat, which studies show may help in the prevention of heart disease.Legend has it that the first avocado was eaten in Mexico by a Mayan princess around 291 B.C. It is believed that the Aztecs used the avocado as a sexual stimulant. Later, early Americans called the avocado an "alligator pear" to describe the fruit's texture, another possib
If it wasn't so hot in Utah and I wasn't so in love with this salad I probably wouldn't be posting the recipe, since it's similar to a salad with tuna I made earlier this summer. But I was eating the salad when my ...
