There have been over 15,000 arrests for resistance to war since 2002. There were large numbers right after the run up to and invasion of Iraq. Recently, arrests have begun climbing again. Though arrests are a small part of anti-war organizing, their rise is an indicator of increasing resistance. Indonesian police say they are questioning two top members of the regional terrorist network Jemaah Islamiyah. Suspects Abdul Rohim and Agus Purwanto were returned to Indonesia after being arrested several weeks ago in Malaysia. Terrorism expert Sidney Jones says Abdul Rohim is thought to have replaced Zarkasih as Jemaah Islamiyah leader (emir), after Zarkasih's arrest last year. "He was a member of the central command, he is rumored to possibly be the new emir, or the caretaker emir [of Jemaah Islamiyah] ... the last known position that he had was a head of education for the central command," Jones explained."This is big because it is two more influential people, with one in particular at the top ranks of Jemaah Islamiyah, meaning that the police have pretty clearly penetrated the structu

A former patient has been charged with the theft of a laptop from a VA hospital last November. If you’ll recall, the Indianapolis VA center found itself short of a laptop, two desktops, and assorted peripheral equipment. The items were stolen over Veterans Day weekend, ironically enough. One of the stolen computers contained information on nearly 12,000 veterans. The thief was identified from surveillance video recordings and has been apprehended; however, the laptop containing sensitive data has not been recovered.

Former FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover had a plan to suspend the rules against illegal detention and arrest up to 12,000 Americans he suspected of being disloyal, according to a newly declassified document. Hoover sent his plan to the White House on July 7, 1950, less than two weeks after the Korean War began. But there is no evidence to suggest that President Truman or any subsequent president approved any part of Hoover's proposal to house suspect Americans in military and federal prisons. Hoover had wanted Truman to declare the mass arrests necessary to protect the country against treason, espionage and sabotage, The New York Times reported Saturday in a story posted on its Web site. The plan called for the FBI to apprehend all potentially dangerous individuals whose names were on a
Amidst the holiday season, I want my voice on the two legal issues in Singapore to be heard. Five days ago I wrote in one entry about the Internal Security Act, which allows for arrests to be made without trial. And spoke about the unfairness towards gay people with the existence of Section 377A.

In the following press release Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez announced the first round of arrests warrants for criminals dealing in mortgage fraud schemes brought in 11 people this week with two suspects still at large. At a press conference this morning Mayor Alvarez presented the cases where these individuals are suspected of committing mortgage fraud. “Mortgage Fraud affects all of us as artificially inflated home values increase taxes making it unaffordable to live here,” said Mayor Alvarez. “On the flip side, when banks begin to foreclose on fraudulent mortgages and sell these properties far below their original value, the County’s tax base lowers. This may affect the level of services we are able to offer.” To combat the problem, Mayor Alvarez created a Mortgage Fraud Task Force. The Task Force pools together various agencies and resources for a joint effort against mortgage fraud. This includes the Miami-Dade Police Department, Miami-D

The FBI, working in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security, raided Valve headquarters early this morning, detaining several developers who work directly with the popular Counterstrike mod. Authorities also confiscated computers used to program the game. The developers are currently being held on charges of domestic terrorism at an undisclosed U.S. prison that may or may not be inside the United States.
Intelligence agencies working with law enforcement have discovered a vast and troubling network of gamers working together within our country training themselves in strategies and tactics that could potentially be used by domestic terror cells, Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff told reporters at a press conference held in the White House shortly after the raid. We have detained the instigators of this domestic terrorist training program, and further arrests will be forthcoming as we track down individuals using this "Steam" network.

BEIJING: Chinese police have jailed a man for 14 days after he posted messages to chat rooms calling for a gathering of people angry over high real estate prices, state media and a rights group said Friday. The move appeared to be part of efforts to ratchet up already tight media and Internet controls ahead of a sensitive political congress expected in October. The Communist Party congress, held every five years, will set the agenda for the party and country for the next half-decade, and will likely include a reshuffling of some top leaders. It will also mark a renewal of party leader Hu Jintao's five-year tenure.

ATLANTA (AP) - At the world’s busiest airport, plainclothes officers patrolling public restrooms in search of luggage thieves have instead uncovered a rash of other, more sordid crimes.
The new restroom dragnet has led to the arrests of more than 30 people in three months for indecent exposure and public sex acts at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Airport restrooms apparently have become such popular meeting places for men looking for sexual trysts with other men that they have been suggested several times as meeting places in personal ads on the Web site Craigslist.

The new patrols were started to stop theft, not catch people in sex acts, police officials say.
Officers started monitoring the restrooms after figuring out that thieves were pulling bags off baggage-claim carousels and taking them into toilet stalls to comb through them.
“We’re trying to provide a safe environment for everyone at the airport,” said Officer Joseph Villafane

Gen. Sisno Adiwinoto. "This group has a very good network with a very orderly working structure," Adiwinoto told reporters.

I'm a (R) and i support this war but people not being able to tell thier goverment how they feel no matter thier view point or party affiliation in a "public" hearing is extremely un-american..
