      Archiving Saves More Than Time
We all save emails we think might be important; vacation time, pay changes, memos from the higher ups. But should we be saving more? According to Edward Alexi of Tangent, Inc: “… approximately 90% of the day’s business communications are performed via email or by way of unsecured instant messages.” Think about it, 20 years ago correspondence between [...]

      Automating Archiving
The gmail blog published some 9 reasons as to why users should start archiving. People started to wonder why they should even bother, part of the concern due to them feeling the job repetitive. But it need not be. You can automate the process of archiving emails using filters! After you enter into your mail account, find the “create filter” option near the search box, and click it.The rest of the process is very simple that even a layman can figure it out, anyways, I will go through it. Now, you should have a yellow display asking you to “create a filter”. Here you define the criteria for the filter. I am going to enter “reports at sitemeter dot com” in the text box opposite to from, since I want to archive any mail sent from this mail address to me. Here I don’t want the repo

(Thanks to gmail blog for that short and simple definition!). So why should you do that? Here is why:9. Phone numbers and addressesYou never know when you'll need a phone number someone emailed you or an address that was in a signature.8. Daily Computing Gets Simple With Email Archiving
Browsing through our mails is a passion for most of us and email management and archiving helps me in this regard. Email archiving helps me keep a check on overhead costs and my data is also stored safely. Once the set up installation is done, all the incoming and outgoing mails are stored for three to six years. Moreover the data I store in these files gets checked for spam protection and viruses. For any office mail that is stored, we have the flag messages option to comply with official policies. Not only is my data stored safely but the offsite storage system offer power backups for disaster recovery. Mails are given proper index that makes the process of sorting easy. I can search mails easily and move or restore the folders. My mails are now safe and stored for a longer period

So, you'll never miss TUGZip - a powerful archiving utility that helps user to do a wide range of compressed, encoded and disc-image files. Personally, it is a perfect tool instead of WinZIP, WinRAR or 7-ZIP. First of all, it supports more file formats that 7-Zip, WinZIP, and WinRAR combined. Not only it supports reading and extracting from more filetypes in those three other similar programs, but also it supports creating and compressing into more filetypes that the others combined. Moreover, TUGZip provides other useful features to use. It supports BIN, C2D, IMG, ISO and NRG disc-image files as well as an SFX-tool to create self-extracting archives and an additional scripting tool to simplify automated backups. Also TUGZip

Tape - Still The Best For Backup And Archiving
Tape is one of the real old die hards in the world of data storage and archiving. (Remember those shots of the Apollo mission when the fate of the astronauts was in the hands of those whirling spools of magnetic tape in mission control?) But with the introduction in recent decades of a slew of more modern media - optical discs, memory cards, and zip drives, for example, does plain old tape still have a role to play? If you're a traditionalist, you'll be pleased to learn that the answer is an (almost) unqualified 'yes'. Tape's enduring popularity is due to the range of advantages it offers. For one thing, using magnetic tape for backup is extremely cost effective. You can backup your entire server on one mid-range tape which costs around $20. Plus, magnetic tape can be re-used. So you can c

      Data Archiving Method
I have recently begun backing up my data such as photos (both digital and film), videos, and other files so that in case something happens, I will not lose my irreplaceable data. There is always much discussion on the best ways to archive data, and I have my way. Many may agree and disagree with my method, but this one works for me.In this post I will explain my method, as well as the reasons I chose to use the tools and storage devices.Organizing and Labelling the DataBefore I begin to archive the data, I first organize the data, as well as set some labeling standards. The archival process is much easier once you have organized all your files, photos, and whatever else you will be archiving. If you plan to scan photos, slides, negatives, or other documents, you should separate them into groups, either by date or people. This will help you to keep certain items together within your archives.Once you have organized your data, you should create a labeling scheme to make it easier for you

Talking Points Memo: White House using RNC email addresses to get around archiving laws?
Is the White House using alternate email accounts to get around laws regarding archiving of official emails? This is actually a fairly common practice in the buisiness world. And it is not necessarilly for nefarious reasons. People will often use a personal rather than corporate email account if it is sometning not strictly job related. And while many companies have a policy regarding use of private email at work (this is part of my job so I know whereof I speak) they often overlook use of private email as long as it doesn't affect ones work performance. But if it were to get around federal regulations then we're talking possible jail time. I wouldn't out it past the Democrats for a second to try and take somethign totally innocent and make hay with it. But then again I would't put it past the White House to use something like this to get past oversight procedures either. ~RJHTPM article link (March 26, 2007 -- 02:43 PM EDT)This issue of White House personnel using RNC email accou

      The importance of archiving
Here's a blog of a painter in Prague, Czech Republic named Jeremiah Palecek who puts up 1 painting a day. That's worth a look in and of itself, but I particularly enjoyed his posting on the importance of archiving. Here's an excerpt from his posting on his blog: "This is the way the Gmail login looks today. But who remembers the original webcrawler icon? For me, while this electronic image is merely a logo, the time period in which I used Webcrawler reminds of a certain period of my life as well as a very specific period of time in which I used it. By creating these paintings of digital imagery, Im not only archiving bits of nostalgia. I'm also organizing different periods of my life. Some days when I'm visiting a page I ve been going to for years and there's been a major site overhaul I almost feel betrayed. Where is my login button? Why did they change the banner? Something that has become automatic is slowed down a bit, and suddenly that gmail page I've been using for years
