Seu Jorge: The Life Aquatic soundtrack
Bought this soundtrack last night at Fish Records in Newtown and I love it. You can’t deny the quirkyness of this album, who would think to cover David Bowie songs in Portugese with acoustic guitar?? I loved the movie, and this soundtrack is equally fantastic. Jorge’s voice is awesome, and mixed with the sound of his guitar playing is like chocolate for your ears, mmmm….

      Sub-Aquatic Dining Record Smashed
I’m not even sure what to say about this one. Via InstaTravel: Most people might not be aware of the fact that dining underwater is possible. But this is true! A new sub-aqua dining record has been made by an assorted crew of 500 people. TV presenter Adrian Chiles, Nigel Havers, James Dreyfus, Adrian Chiles and Thalia Zucci were among the world-famous celebrities that joined the party. The underwater dining was an attempt to raise funds for charities like Save the Children, The Shooting Star Hospice, Breakthrough Breast Cancer and The British Heart Foundation. The event raised more than £200,000 ($400,000) for these charities. There’s nothing like breaking totally off-the-wall world records to bring attention to worthwhile causes. Good on ‘em!

27 Aquatic Lifeforms You Never Caught While Fishing
27 Aquatic Lifeforms You Never Caught While FishingHave you heard about the one that got away? You know, that record-breaking fish your uncle caught last summer? Uh huh. But that shouldn't stop you from taking a gander at what's below the watery surface. From the cute axolotl to the creepy predatory snaggletooth, the bulldog-like stargazer to the fantastical "Dumbo" octopus, and the elegant leafy sea dragon to the lumpfish with a face only its mother could love—these real-life animals are awe-inspiring. Various Artists - The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou OST
When David Russell's I Heart Huckabees launched its ad campaign, the wacky-wistful commercials used what you could call "Wes Anderson music"-- 1960s/70s folk pop, light but not MOR, the kind of song that has a strong kick but soft edges. The music to films like Rushmore complimented a style that's drily bittersweet, and so quirky that his critics say he cushions his blows: the plot devices of giant aquariums and Jaguar sharks are too fantastic, real people don't live in the Franny & Zooey world of The Royal Tenenbaums, Gene Hackman never comes out and calls Danny Glover a "nigger," and on and on. Meanwhile, the legion of Anderson's fans who dig the quirk also appreciate the understated but real sadness that runs through the films-- the genuine emotion that's fed by botched dreams and unexpected, unremarkable deaths. The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou has proven more exotic and divisive than even Tenenbaums-- check out the 47% fresh rating at Rottentomatoes.com-- and though I'm a

Seu Jorge - The Life Aquatic Studio Sessions Featuring Seu Jorge
Have you heard Wes Anderson? Not of the filmmaker. Nor of his outstanding soundtrack track record: how he reintroduced a generation to the majesty of Love in Bottle Rocket, re-channeled mod fury in Rushmore, and breathed new life into your weird uncle's '70s record collection through Royal Tenenbaums. That's not what I'm talking about. Have you heard him? Have you listened to his work? Put on one of his films, turn off the screen/TV, but leave the sound on? We have seen Wes paint "Ooh La La" as a slow motion ensemble celebration; how do you see it? Different image perhaps, but same affect. Rarely has a filmmaker with such a fine eye for visual detail also accomplished equally exceptional aural feats. However, the trouble with his last film The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou was its confusion. Not just in the sense that the protagonist remained in a slurred haze the bulk of the film. Rather, the heart of the film felt off-balance, as if standing with landlubber legs on a boat for the

China bans Indonesian aquatic imports after finding toxic substances
BEIJING, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) — China’s top quality control agency on Friday banned imports of aquatic products from Indonesia, claiming many were found containing toxic substances and disease causing pathogens.    Quarantine officials had found Indonesian aquatic products tainted with mercury, chromium, the antibacterial drug nitrofural, and pathogens, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ) said.     The agency stated in a circular the tainted aquatic products have been returned or destroyed.     In the first six months, Chinese officials seized 121 batches of Indonesian foods ranging from aquatic products, palm oil, canned food to biscuits that contain excessive drug residues and food additives and harmful organisms, according to the AQSIO.     It cited examples, saying quarantine officials in the southern province of Guangdong had detected salmonella in frozen sea eels and listeria monocytogenes in frozen fish o

      Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center
Just a short message from the Sequimers today:After Keoki got finally done with his 14-day jury duty in Port Angeles, we are happy to be back to our exercise routine to visit three times a week the Sequim Aquatic Recreational Center. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are our work-out days. What makes the SARC, short form for the long word, so attractive to retired residents in Sequim, like us, is that you can get a whole body and mind workout done. The gym offers more machines than you have seen anywhere else and more than you can actulaly use during one visit. You have to make decisions. Personal trainers are available, if you don't know how to use the machines best. After our workout, we use the stretching area in one part of the gym. After all the hard work exercising on bikes, treadmill, cross trainer etc., it's great to finish with a relaxing lap swim (don't want to go for recors) or just relax in pool, jacuzzi and sauna. How better can it get?! We always tell people that SARC is

Aquatic Shoe Allows You To Run Under Water
Running under water can be an important exercise for fitness training as well as recovery and rehabilitation because it puts less stress on the joints while offering increased resistance. AQx Sports has developed the AQx Aquatic Training Shoe, specifically designed to make running under water feel more natural. According to AQx Sports, the shoe "decreases the amount of pounding generally needed to enhance a runner's performance(s), is an aid to recovery or an adjunct to normal training regimen, used as a method of rehabilitation from a running-related or musculoskeletal injury, enhances range of motion and proper mechanics of land-based running" The most important differences of the aquatic shoe compared to normal running shoes are its fins "for correct, subtle plane of motion resistance", a sticky rubber sole for extra grip, as well as several drainage ports.

Tally up some new shrimp, catfish, manta rays, and meat-eating piranha from a recent survey of a confluence in Venezuela. As with most species discoveries these days, some may already be threatened. Where is the tipping point, I wonder, between species discoveries and extinction discoveries? For now at least the former seem more prevalent.
