I was rushing to get to the Azoogle gathering to meet up with more people but I was late. I just met up with Jonathan Volk, Jeremy aka ShoeMoney, and my account manager Erin. Rushing caused me more delays… I wanted to get to New York by 4:30 ish but arrived at 5:30 - just when everyone was leaving to go to the Latitude Bar. I took the train and got on the wrong train because I was rushing, so that really killed my time. I then had to walk several blocks because the original train I was suppose to take would take me right to their office literally 2 blocks I th

Property prices at Hingewadi, Wakad and Chakan in Pune are still seeing appreciation - observes Sanjay Dutt, Joint MD of Cushman & Wakefield
Excerpts from CNBC-TV18's exclusive interview:Q: We have been getting all sorts of reports, ICICI Bank saying unit sales have come down, couple of developers said that prices are relatively holding at this point in time - what is your assessment of value in this industry as a whole right now and how has it changed over the last three months?Dutt: It is a given that the prices have actually slowed down, the markets are stagnating. But if we were to elaborate on the buyer segment, if we were to distinguish between end users and investors, I may agree with Rajiv that the overall slowdown is 20-25%. But when it comes to investors which are a speculative component of the markets, the fall has been significant. We assume it must be over 40-50% and that is where the impact is being felt by the de

Home Appreciation: 'Now, Of Course, That's Over'
From the Oregonian:The Portland area, once a star performer in an otherwise gloomy U.S. housing market, crossed into the same dismal territory in January when home values dropped for the first time since record-keeping began in 1987, according to a report released Tuesday. The Standard & Poor's Case-Shiller report comes amid warnings from a respected economic consulting firm that home values could fall as much as 15 percent in Portland, Salem and Eugene and up to 25 percent in resort or retirement communities on the coast and in Bend, Hood River and southern Oregon.Mark McMullen, an Oregon-based senior economist for Moody's Economy.com, says he expects the state will suffer through a short housing-sparked recession this summer. Oregon, he said, will need five years to reach the boom-tim

      Appreciation Habit
Appreciation HabitIf you have ever had the stomach flu for a few days running and have been unable to eat, you know how incredible that first piece of buttered toast tastes. The toast has not changed, it is your awareness that has changed; your attention if focused on the experience of eating the toast and you savor it, enjoy it and are grateful to be able to eat. Think about the things that you regularly do each day with little or no attention. Anything that has become a habit falls into this category. You probably have your morning ritual, shower, dress, eat, brush teeth, most of which you could almost do in your sleep. In a way you sort of are sleeping. You are not really awake, aware and paying attention to what you are doing. How many of the things that are essential to our survival d

      Real Estate Appreciation In Portland
Real estate appreciation in Portland and the ‘burbs isn’t what it used to be, but as a homeowner myself, I’ll take it compared to how the rest of the country has fared. Here are the appreciation rates for the metro area as provided by the RMLS. And as I’ve said on this blog before, this is one of many ways to determine appreciation rates (such as Moody’s and the S&P Case-Shiller Index), albeit the highest:Rate = Area8.3% = North Portland7.5% = Lake Oswego, West Linn7.3% = Northeast Portland6.7% = Southeast Portland6.3% = Northwest Washington County4.8% = Tigard, Tualatin, Sherwood, Wilsonville4.6% = West Portland4.4% = Gresham, Troutdale4.2% = Hillsboro, Forest Grove3.2% = Beaverton, Aloha1.1% = Oregon City, Canby-6.4% = Milwaukie, Clackamas, Happy ValleyPer the RMLS, appreciatio

I’ve been working on some new articles for our Lingerie Resources page. One recent one was on the History of Hosiery. With my newfound knowledge, last week I discovered an error in a historical novel set in 1937. The author said the aunt was wearing thick “white nylons.” Sorry, no. Inaccurate. Not in production yet. Rayon stockings were, but this lady would have mostly likely been wearing cotton

Today is ETrade's Customer Appreciation Day
As you have probably heard, ETrade is having a customer appreciation day where they are waiving all trading commissions. So, I logged into my account just now and realized that I didn’t really want to buy or sell any securities. I reminded myself that I shouldn’t trade a stock or fund just because the commissions are free. My investments are based on research and planning, so the $10 dollars that each trade saves me shouldn’t change that philosophy. If you are also a ETrade customer, you shouldn’t trade more frequently today just because of this promotion offer. Those that worry about commissions should look into companies that offer free trading like Zecco. The bottom line is that we shouldn’t be impulsive with our investment decisions (and financial decisions) in general. Don’t let a promotional offer lure us into making one. Side note: I’m flying back to California today so Money Ning should return to regular scheduled programming ---

"The purpose of dialogue between faiths is not to change the other, but rather to deepen the experience of one's own faith. Through greater understanding and appreciation of each other's faith, the Hindu becomes a better Hindu, the Muslim becomes a better Muslim, the Christian becomes a better Christian, the Jew a better Jew and the Buddhist a better Buddhist."- Mahatma Gandhi (1829 - 1948)O mankind! surely God created you of a male and a female, and made you into nations and races, that you may know each other. Graph Demonstrates, Compares Portland Appreciation
I published a post a few days ago about a study listing Portland as one of five major cities in the U.S. to have experienced real estate appreciation over the last year.In connection with that study, Time Magazine issued a graph to better show the trends of growth and decline for the major cities in the study. Here’s the graph, which I think is neat. And as for Time, it did make a few comments about the Portland: “Then you've got Seattle and Portland, which have seen substantial if not staggering price gains and are still living in their own happy, Northwestern alternative reality in which the real estate bust is just something you read about in your favorite newsweekly .”
