Alma Mater Matters in Job Searches - Using University Career Services in Your Employment Search
Universities and colleges are now offering their career services to alumni looking for new jobs or careers as well as students, according to an article in the Wall Street Journal. I decided to check out local universities as well as my alma mater to see what they have to offer alumni in a job search. I found that universities provide many of the same services and resources that outplacement and

Time warp: Visit to my alma mater Sussex University
To Sussex University by the ridiculously expensive 25 bus with one of my friends for a nose round the university where I studied English Literature for three years. After getting off in the drizzle near Falmer House, we had a nose round the huge three-story Sussex University Library, which hasn't changed much, apart from the recent trial of the much needed 24 hour opening, which every university li

      Ludacris Honored at Alma Mater
From AJC:Chris Bridges aka Ludacris, who was once banned from his alma mater, now has a gymnasium named for him and shares space on a mural which also features the school's namesake, Benjamin Banneker. Four years ago a previous administration told Bridges he was not welcome on school grounds because of the disruption his visits caused. A wall grew between Bridges and the school, and he vowed never

My Alma Mater: Keeping Students Stupified Since 1968
I have a love/appreciate/hate relationship with the school I went to for my undergrad degree. I loved the reasonably-low in-state tuition. I appreciated the underrated, quality education it gave me. I hated the head-scratching, brain-cell killing, sometimes moronic administration and staff. Cue the back story: 1. This school once told me I had lost an academic scholarship my freshman year, only to tell me a semester later it made a mistake and I still had it. 2. This school once sent me a nice, polite, congratulatory letter. Why were they congratulating me? Because I had just graduated from their college. Two problems: One, I was only a sophomore. Two, I wasn’t even enrolled at their school at the time. I had transferred five months earlier. 3. This school once assigned me to an adviser who I question whether or not had any knowledge of the school, its courses, my major, what classes I needed, or who the heck I was. As such, he enrolled me in classes I later found out I did not n

Maybe my alma mater has changed…
Everybody always says their school has changed after they’ve graduated, but here’s a little snippet from today’s Globe: The ‘Bachelor’ and the students “Bachelor No. 2″ stars Jason Biggs and Dane Cook took time out from filming on the Boston Common yesterday morning to sign autographs for Emerson College students. A Presidential Debate at My Alma Mater
Hofstra University, in Hempstead, New York wants to host a 2008 Presidential or Vice Presidential debate, even if it's going to cost the university a pretty penny. Why is this so important to me? Well, if you haven't read my bio on the right, you wouldn't have known Hofstra is my alma mater. I graduated from there last May. This blog exists, in part, because of the education I received at Hofstra. My writing skills and my political knowledge (not necessarily my political leanings,) were taught to me by professors at that school. To see a Presidential debate at my alma mater would make any alumnus or alumna of Hofstra proud. Hofstra is no stranger to political stuff, as mentioned here;Stuart Rabinowitz, Hofstra's president, said the school was spurred to apply by the success of its past 11 presidential conferences, the most recent held in November 2005 on Bill Clinton's presidency, at which the former president gave the keynote addressI was there for that. I still have my press cre

On the cover and inside my alma mater
This month I am proud and honored to be featured not only on the cover with one of my illustrations but on the inside with a one page article about me in LaGrange College's Alumni Magazine - Columns. I graduated with a BA from LaGrange College, LaGrange, GA, in 1992. Studying there played a huge part in who I am today. Majoring in Drawing & Painting and Graphic Design, in a liberal arts college, I learned the base set of skills that made this illustration for the cover. Even though this cover was not originally done for Columns, the Editor, Dean Hartman and Designer, Stacy Jackson, thought it would be appropriate subject matter and concept for this issue. I originally did this for PTO Today magazine in 2003. I tweaked the layers a bit so the Stacy could separate the people on the inside spread. What's even more interesting is that I was found by the creators of Columns from the LaGrange College alumni website where this very blog your are on right now is listed as one of the blogs

King Khan´s Gift To Alma Mater
Watching Shah Rukh Khan anchoring the third edition of 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' (KBC) is not the only reason for jubilation for those associated with Hansraj College , Delhi University (DU) . There is another reason too . King Khan has sent a cheque of Rs 20,000 for his alma mater as a token of his love for the college. Being a Hansraj graduate , Shah Rukh shares a special relationship with his alma mater . While Amitabh Bachchan may have missed visiting Kirorimal College when he came to accept a doctorate degree in DU , Shah Rukh Khan has made short visits to the college while being in the capital . He also came to celebrate the college's golden jubilee a few years back . This time , the Bollywood star has sent a cheque of Rs 20,000 along with a message for his college. This is the first time the star has sent a cheque to the college."Even though there are changes in the college and students move on , they still feel a sense of belonging which is evident from Shah Rukh's gesture , "

      Oh, my alma mater...
You ever have one of those days when you hear some news about your alma mater and you think to yourself, "Damn I'm so proud of that school" or "Wow - isn't that just swell of (fill in the blank of your alma mater)." Yah, I suppose certain schools produce more of those moments than others. And then there are those times when you hear some news about your alma mater and you think to yourself, "What in the hell?" or "Damn, did I really go there?" I had one of those moments this week. A great friend of mine recently told me about how a few Whitworth College students celebrated Reformation Day 2006. They created their own version of the 95 Theses and posted over 300 of them around Gonzaga University, a Jesuit school (most famous around the nation because of their basketball team, the Gonzaga Bulldogs). Anyway, I did a little research and found an article here at the Gonzaga Bulletin, which details what happened and has a quote from our President, Bill Robinson, as he apologizes publicly

Checking In On My Alma Mater
As most of you don't know, I graduated from the University of Iowa (insert Idiots Out Walking Around and other lame jokes here, Illinois fans). Today I thought I'd do a little checking around on the Interweb to see what's happening at the old U. Let's see ... Steve Alford is still a tool ... Kirk Ferentz is still being considered NFL head coach material ... The Girls Gone Wild bus ran over a guy
