I like the idea that in a sample-style song you are experiencing two or more different times simultaneously. (Kinda like a cubist painting, where you are looking at the front at the same time as you are looking at the profile of the subject.) When it comes to thinking about a purchasing a new sewing machine, there are so many choices out there that I get lost and could use some expert guidance. I've always sewn on Singers and, in fact, my current machine was passed on to me by my mother some 25 years ago (she'd had it about 15). It's always been perfectly adequate for my needs but it's starting to show it's age and instead of repair, I'm contemplating replacement. I'm not adverse to owning another Singer but I'm fascinated by the plethora of choices these days and thought I should try to learn more. I don't need a lot of bells and whistles and would rather not spend a boat-load of money. I need a strong, easy-to-use machine. A small variety of stitches would be nice but more than 10 seems like overkill for my sewing style (though I'm willing to admit that I could be wrong about this). I know that I need button-hole capability, free-arm, and a machine that is strong enough to handle denim or upholstery fabric.
