TechCrunch has confirmed the rumors regarding Google’s plan to acquire FeedBurner, a feed management service which is used by most bloggers. They are selling for $100 million in an all-cash deal to Google. Google seems to be specifically interested in FeedBurner’s RSS Ad network which could work out as a brilliant addition to Google’s existing advertising platform. Once the acquisition is over, I expect Google to relaunch FAN (FeedBurner Ad Network) under AdSense for Feeds banner which is both good and bad. Good because Google’s existing resources can help FeedBurner enhance their existing service. Bad because, monopoly makes us feel uncomfortable. In my opinion, $100 million sounds too low for a service which is used by majority of bloggers. FeedBurner which started with a venture capital of $10 million (in two rounds) is now selling for $100 million in just 3 years, which is quite good. I’m not happy with the idea of Google acquiring everything.

Anyway, I registered my domain name during the mother's day-as sort of my present...LOL but, unfortunately, the first one didn't work. So, I had to get another one. Yesterday, Alltel Corp. announced that it has signed a definitive merger agreement to be acquired by TPG Capital and GS Capital Partners, in a transaction valued at approximately $27.5 billion.Under the terms of the merger agreement, TPG Capital and GSCP will acquire all of the outstanding common stock of Alltel for $71.50 per share in cash. The purchase price per share represents a 23% premium over Alltel's closing share price prior to media reports of a potential transaction published on December 29, 2006. Alltel intends to pay its regular quarterly common share dividend until closing.

NEW DELHI — Once a piece of land has been duly acquired by the government under the Land Acquisition Act, it becomes the sole property of the state, India’s apex court has held.  Even if the purpose of the acquisition no longer exists, the state can dispose of the same to anyone for the market value, a Bench of Justices C.K. Thakker and P.K. Balasubramanyan observed while upholding an appeal filed by the Tamil Nadu Housing Board.The Bench passed the observations while setting aside the judgement of a Division Bench of the Madras High Court which ordered the Board to hand-over the land to some persons whose land was acquired for public purpose by the government.
