Frank Zappa / Steve Vai... Stevie's Spanking duet version

      Dweezil Zappa
Dweezil Zappa is not considered a blues artist but he does have blues roots. I am just so amazed that he will have five performances in Southern venues that I felt obligated to include him on the blues page. Click the title link for a little wiki history. His partially completed homepage can be found here. His MySpace page can be found here. You can also hear samplings of his music at both these p

FRANK ZAPPA - We're Only In It For Te Money (1968)
RIO/Avant-Prog-USA "This is the epidome of Frank's early psychadelic experimentation. His brilliant satire of the 60s is worth a listen for any fan of his. That said, I DONT' recommend starting with this if you're interested in his work. You've really got to understand Frank to appreciate this record. Frank Zappa - Sheik Yerbouti - 1979
In my previous post I wrote about Frank Zappa and I added a video from YouTube with a live performance of Peaches en Regalia which was shot at the comedy programme Saturday Night Live.I also wrote that I liked the live version better than the album version. I wanted to add also a video with the album version, so that people could compare for themselves, but I couldn't find a suitable one. There was an original video, but the sound- and videoquality was not very good. So I made a video myself with a slideshow (so not a real video) of pictures of Frank Zappa that I found around the net combined with the music from Peaches en Regalia from the album "Hot Rats".So now people can compare for themselves. I wonder which version other Zappa fans prefer.

Frank Zappa and The Mothers Of Invention - We're Only in It for the Money (1968)
Zenekarának, a Mothers Of Invention-nak ez a harmadik nagylemeze, melyet többen korszakalkotónak minősítenek. A lemez a hippikultúra paródiája, s a felszínes amerikai élet szatírája. Egész életében kisérletező kedvű polgárpukkasztó, a kereskedelmi zenétől elhatárolódó független egyéniség és a rockélet meghatározó személyisége volt.1993. december 4-én hunyt el.A lemezen hallható felvételek:1. Are You Hung Up? – 1:252. Who Needs the Peace Corps? – 2:343. Concentration Moon – 2:224. Mom and Dad – 2:165. Telephone Conversation – 0:496. Bow Tie Daddy – 0:337. Harry, You're a Beast – 1:218. Frank Zappa - Peaches en Regalia
I didn't post for a bit longer than I expected. It's about time to create a new post. I haven't done any new musical discoveries recently, so I'll post something about an artist who, despite the fact that I don't appreciate all of his music/recordings, I admire very much: Frank Zappa, the late multi talented artist who unfortunately died in 1993 of prostate cancer. One of the reasons why I find him an interesting artist is the fact that he was an original and independent artist who considered artistic freedom as a supreme good. He was also a strong advocate for the freedom of speech and strongly opposed any form of censorship. (See for example Frank Zappa's appearence in 1986 on the discussion programme Crossfire and fore some more examples look here, here and here). He also had a nose for excellent musicians. When a musician could put on their resume that they played with Frank Zappa most of the time it was a 100% guarantee for an interesting and often succesful career with other

      From Abba to Zappa
Fácil, ¿no? Grupos descubiertos A. Abba B. (The) Beatles C. Cristina Aguilera D. (The) Darkness E. Eminem F. Flaming lips G. Guns 'n Roses H. Har Mar Superstar I. Tuesday we´re leaving for a trip to South/Germany for 10 days.I´m working on a more extended post about Frank Zappa, but for now you have to do it with a video from YouTube from a live performance from the music piece "Peaches and Regalia" shot in 1976 at the famous since October 1975 running (and still running) tv/show Saturday Night Live.I'll get back to you on Frank Zappa when I get back from our trip.See ya!

      Concert Review: Zappa Plays Zappa
Dweezil, first place winner in the Rob Schneider look-alike contest, entered the stage with his band and stood there, smiling proudly, accepting the immediate standing ovation. But why? He hasn’t done anything, all he did was be born. Something wasn’t right. Nothing had happened yet... And then the clip ended and the real show began. Dweezil’s guitarwork instantly reminded the audience that they paid to see him, not video clips of his dad.

Frank Zappa - Strictly Commercial - The Best of Frank Zappa (1995)320kbpsFor all of his many attributes, one thing Frank Zappa most certainly was not is commercial. Presumably, the title of this collection is ironic. Strictly Commercial: The Best of Frank Zappa is a compilation not of the composer's hits -- he only broke the Top 40 on one occasion, with "Valley Girl" -- but rather, a collection of his best-known material, from "Don't Eat the Yellow Snow" to "Sexual Harassment in the Workplace." Zappa's albums often function as individual works, but this disc offers an intelligent selection of songs, serving as an introduction to the maverick musician.Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine(allmusic.com)1. Frank Zappa plays bicycle with bass bow
I found these videos of Frank Zappa on the Steve Allen Show. Zappa appeared on this episode in 1963, well before he became famous as a performer. Both Frank and Steve Allen use a bass bow to create aleatoric sounds on two bicycles, and they plus the studio band and audience perform along with some taped sounds.Frank is beardless and very young on this episode, and I get a real kick out of his interactions with Steve Allen. The first video posted is actually the second part of the show, and this one features more playing:This video features Frank and Steve doing a lot of talking, and the vibe between the two of them is pretty strange:I found these videos (I had always heard of this Zappa appearance on the Steve Allen Show) while poking around on WFMU's Beware of the Blog. There is a post up there featuring an interview with John Cage from 1960. Check it out here.

Frank Zappa & Mothers - Fillmore East: June 1971 3...
Frank Zappa & Mothers - Fillmore East: June 1971320kbpsAs an enduring work, Fillmore East: June 1971 is a mixed bag, but it does represent the peak of the Flo & Eddie edition of the Mothers. Most of the songs are essentially comedy routines set to music, often dealing with the life of a touring rock musician and, of course, the various opportunities for sexual adventure therein; in one scenario, Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan reprise their Turtles hit "Happy Together" in exchange for sexual favors. The humor is often glib and juvenile, marking the beginnings of Frank Zappa's tactic of making complex music more accessible with half-sardonic arena-frontman antics and crowd-pleasing dirty jokes. Whether one considers the results funny and parodic or crass and pandering, the band is undeniably good, especially as showcased on "Little House I Used to Live In," "Willie the Pimp, Pt. 1," and "Peaches en Regalia."Review by Steve Huey(allmusic.com)1. Frank Zappa - Over-Nite Sensation (1973) 320kbps ...
Frank Zappa - Over-Nite Sensation (1973)320kbps Love it or hate it, Over-Nite Sensation was a watershed album for Frank Zappa, the point where his post-'60s aesthetic was truly established; it became his first gold album, and most of these songs became staples of his live shows for years to come. Whereas the Flo and Eddie years were dominated by rambling, off-color comedy routines, Over-Nite Sensation tightened up the song structures and tucked sexual and social humor into melodic, technically accomplished heavy guitar rock with jazzy chord changes and funky rhythms; meanwhile, Zappa's growling new post-accident voice takes over the storytelling. While the music is some of Zappa's most accessible, the apparent callousness and/or stunning sexual explicitness of "Camarillo Brillo," "Dirty Love," and especially "Dinah-Moe Humm" leave him on shaky aesthetic ground. Zappa often protested that the charges of misogyny leveled at such material missed out on the implicit satire of male stup
