It's too bad that the Orioles had to play a nine inning game, because if it was an eight inning game, they would have won hands down.Too bad reality dictated otherwise. The Orioles in need of pitching, turned to vagabond hurler Victor Zambrano to save the day and hopefully give the team a quality based on what they have seen from him.Well, he was nothing short of awful. They lost the game 8-5, thanks to Zambrano being flat out awful as he gave up eight runs in 2/3 of an inning; however, if you can manage a moral victory, the bullpen kept the Blue Jays off the board for the rest of the game. Victor looked like a human pinata last night, as the Blue Jays batted around and sent 13 men to the plate. If it were not for an amazing catch by a motivated Jay Payton, things could have been worse - much worse. The Baltimore offense put in a valiant effort to come back from disaster, as they scored five runs, but there was too big of a hole dug.The two teams play again on Thursday night, and then the
Carlos Zambrano's long wait paid off. The Chicago Cubs' talented and emotional ace agreed Friday to a five-year, $91.5 million contract extension that features a vesting option for a sixth season. The deal was first reported by FOXSports.com.Zambrano skipped a shot at free agency and its lucrative payday to stay with the only club he's ever known."Not everything is about money, you know," Zambrano said. "I know if I got to free agency there were a lot of things that would come to me and offer me. I feel comfortable here. I feel good here and my family feels good here."The 26-year-old righty is 14-9 with a 3.86 ERA this season. The two-time All-Star is 78-51 lifetime.Zambrano had hoped to have a new deal in place by opening day. He extended that deadline but contract talks stalled after Tribune Co., which owns the team, announced in April that it was selling itself for $8.2 billion to Chicago real estate mogul Sam Zell. The Cubs are expected to go on the auction block at the end of th

I spend a lot of my time on sites like Espn and SI, just looking at scores or updates or basically looking for anything interesting that I can find. And sometimes I luck out and come across a story that is as awesome as a gecko with Tourette's syndrome.Case and point. Carlos Zambrano and Michael Barrett made up and cried about their dug-out brawl last week.He came to me the next day, and he apologized and I apologized to him and we cried," a teary-eyed Zambrano said after he beat the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday. "I still love him.Carlos Zambrano. Teary-eyed. I just can't wrap my mind around that. Carlos looks like a guy that would plunk his mother in the mouth if she crowded the plate on him, so the fact that he got misty-eyed about Michael Barrett just kills me.So next time that Zambrano is on the mound and showing as much hostility as a salt water crocodile, then just remember that he cried along with Michael Barrett. That should tickle your fancy...Edit : Those are supposed to
Chicago Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano Wednesday concentrated more about what was on the field than in the dugout as he defeated the Milwaukee Brewers by a score of 6-2. Zambrano who got into a brawl with his catcher Michael Barrett during the Saturday loss to the Atlanta Braves striking out nine in his 6.2 innings pitched. He did not allow a run until the sixth when he served up Prince Fielder's 21 homer of the season a two run shot.Zambrano even got into the act offensively as he got two singles. But the big offensive hero for Chicago was centerfielder Felix Pie who went 3-5 including a three run home run. After the game Zambrano said that he and Barrett had made up before the Milwaukee series.(c) Copyright thesackattack.com 2007
The Cubs spent $300 million dollars in the acquisition of talent in the off-season and right now, it's looking like a train wreck. In light of Sweet Lou Piniella blowing up and Alfonso Soriano forgetting how to swat homers, it's become a powder keg in Cubbie-world.Friday, 'Big Z', Carlos Zambrano and Michael Barrett tussled in the Cubs dugout, and Big Z decided to channel "The Rock", Dwayne Johnson. He whooped up on Barrett and sent him to the hospital with six stitches to his lip, along with swelts and bruises. The two men put the incident behind them and were fined. When Lou Piniella left Tampa Bay, he thought his fortunes would be better; however, he's finding out in Chicago, there's a reason why the Cubs are the Cubs...Thanks to the magic of the Internet and Yotube, you can see the action as it is...
Chicago Cubs Pitcher and Light Heavy Weight boxer in training, Carlos Zambrano took full responsibility for the fight that took place between catcher Michael Barrett and himself on Friday. The incident occurred during a loss to the Atlanta Braves. Zambrano on Saturday said that the brawl was ll his fault and he feels bad for that.Barrett who was hospitalized after being punched out by the Chicago starter, and ended up with a bruise under his eye as well as a busted lip said that Zambrano has no reason to apologize. He said that part of the reason behind the fight was they were as close as brothers. He compared to a sibling rivalry.Cubs manager Lou Pinella who fined both players an undisclosed amount, but issued no suspensions, is glad to hear about the reconciliation. He said that the most important thing was that there would be no carryover from the incident.(C) Copyright thesackattack.com 2007
Here’s the video of the non-fight and partial fist of Carlos Zambrano hitting his catcher Michael Barrett. Next time Michael, you probably want to focus on the pissed off man in front of you instead of trying to point out something. And Carlos, my man, when punching, you are supposed to close your fist. The temper of Chicago Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano got the better of him Friday, as he and catcher Michael Barrett went at it in the dugout during the Cubs 8-5 loss to the Atlanta Braves. The Braves had just scored a few runs, one of which came across after Zambrano threw a pitch that bounced off of Barrett's glove. The catcher, trying to make a play to get the runner at third, threw the ball into left field, allowing the run to score. After that top of the 5th inning, Zambrano was seen in the dugout on TV pointing to his head, and then he and Barrett exchanged words before something was said and Zambrano pushed Barrett after the catcher pointed at the scoreboard. That started the mini-fight that saw a lot of pushing, but no punches were thrown. Cubs manager Lou Pinella was one of among the few who stepped in. The manager then told Zambrano to take a shower and go home, then returned to the dugout. Just a few seconds later a clubhouse attendant could be seen saying something to P
Those of you that saw the Braves-Cubs game today at Wrigley must've seen the tussle between Carlos Zambrano and his catcher Michael Barret. The defense played horrible behind Zambrano, leading to a 5-run outburst for Atlanta in the 5ht inning as the Braves went on to win 8-5.The Youtube video isn't that great, but the Espn recap does have a nicer vid with a better view, so try and see it there to get a better look.I can understand that Zambrano was upset because the Cubs defense was making the members of the Bad News Bears look like Ozzie Smith and Omar Vizquel. But Z's pitching has been as disappointing as my hair, so I don't think he can spread too much blame around. No punches were thrown in the dugout, but reports are that Barrett went after Zambrano in the clubhouse and that Zambrano busted his lip for him. I also heard that Lou Piniella was very upset at both guys and that said that he was going to discipline both, but I can't really confirm that right now.Either way, I'm g

Zambrano Talks Cool Down, But Not Over
One person near the negotiations between Carlos Zambrano and the Cubs for a contract extension said that both sides have agreed to let things "cool down".
But that's not to say the possibility of a deal has been greatly reduced. Zambrano and his agent have decided to extend the deadline for completion of the deal "indefinitely". Originally, the Zambrano camp had placed a deadline at Opening Day, but has since backed off of that given the news that the Cubs parent company, the Tribune Co., will be sold and that the buyer will then sell the Cubs in the offseason.
Both the Cubs, Zambrano and his handlers are saying that they think a deal can still be worked out despite this turn of events.
This leads me to believe that both sides want to see what will happen to Z in 07'. To me, he's a great pitcher, but he
Bruce Miles says yes.
Cubs president John McDonough admitted today that he and general manager Jim Hendry would have to get together on the Zambrano situation.
"Ideally, in a perfect scenario, we'd like to keep Carlos, who represents, I think, what we're looking for," McDonough said this afternoon during a conference call with reporters covering Opening Day at the Great American Ball Park. "It's that incredible passion and enthusiasm… I think, however, all of this needs to be addressed at the appropriate time.
"Jim and I need to dialogue a little bit more. There is going to be a process that takes place, and all of this will be addressed at the appropriate time. When exactly that is, I don't know."
Muskat Love says uh-uh sugar.
Contract talks between the team and the right-hander are ongoing, and the pending sale of the Cubs by the Tribune Co., announced hours before the game, has nothing to do with his potential new deal.

Those fine number-crunching enthusiasts over at Baseball Prospectus have apparently gotten the drop on everyone with this little tidbit concerning everybody's favorite hotheaded Venezuelan pitcher.
Look for the Chicago Cubs and right-hander Carlos Zambrano to agree on a five-year contract extension this week worth somewhere in $80 million-$90 million range.
While myself and a small contingent of others have been pushing such heresies as trading Zambrano or just letting him walk in light of what was believed to be a far too exorbitant price tag (Zito money: 7 yr/126MM), 5/80-90 isn't too terrible if BP has gotten this one right (and they tend to, when they do dabble in rumor-mongering, hit the proverbial nail on its self-evident head, see Will Carroll's prescience in all its glory concerning Mr. Prior's shoulder problem circa 2006). And it is a contract that compares reasonably well (if it's at the 80, which it probably isn't) with the one notorious Houston Astros douche bag Roy
Zambrano says he'll walk if Cubs don't sign him (ESPN)
"Whatever happens, I don't want to know [anything] about a contract during the season. I want to sign with the Cubs before the season starts," the Cubs' pitching ace said in an interview on WGN-TV. "If they don't sign me, sorry, but I must go. That's what Carlos Zambrano thinks."
"When you're a great pitcher and have talent, you deserve
