Los romanos construyeron un enorme sistema hidráulico en Túnez que se extiende desde Cartago en un largo viaje hasta Zaghouan. Ahí es donde recogían el agua fresca de las montañas para abastecer la enorme ciudad de Cartago, hoy en día en ruinas.El pueblo de Zaghouan significa una interesante alternativa en Túnez. La montaña de Djebel a más de mil metros ofrece un paisaje completamente distinto al que nuestra mente evoca cuando pensamos en Túnez. Las callejuelas ascendentes y el sereno transitar del pueblo parecen decirnos que nos hallamos en un país muy distinto al que a pocos kilómetros nos da entender la capital tunecina.Es una buena excursión de una día desde los puntos más turísticos de Túnez en el norte. No os perdáis el templo de las ninfas, a unos dos kilómetros de bonito paseo desde el pueblo.
