Here's my adventure at this awesome Kosher Vegetarian restaurant in Chinatown. It's known for serving a selection of Buddhist Vegetarian dishes. They make mock meat dishes by using ingredients like gluten, soy beans, tofu, mushrooms, rice, and a variety of vegetables. The dishes are made to resemble the real meat versions. Their menu is amazing. For every type of meat, there's a "mock" version. Th

This evening, as I do periodically when I feel a need to pray in a sacred space, I did what I normally do.No, I didn't go to a house of worship.Instead, I took the PATH from Exchange Place in Downtown Jersey City to Ground Zero. As I was there, it again struck me how bare the hole in the ground is. What was once a place of vitality is still so barren. Yes, there is construction going on. But for the most part, there could be so much more in the area — including more of a memorial for all the people who died there Sept. 11, 2001.I'm working on some thoughts for a column and reflection and will have much more later.

Talk of a second MLS team in the New York area is about as old as the league itself. Until very recently, talk (more like speculation or gossip) was all it ever amounted to. No longer. In this year's state of the league address, MLS Commissioner Don Garber confirmed that the Wilpon family, owners of the Mets, are indeed seeking a second team for the New York metropolitan area. If I'm not mistaken that was the very first time Garber has publicly acknowledged these efforts.Enter the Borough Boys, a fledgling fan club and de-facto lobbying organization for the hypothetical team, which they have preemptively named New York City, F.C. Being a NYC resident myself, I was intrigued and was able to locate one of the group's co-founders via the Big Soccer sewing circle. What follows is the outcome of our exchange: Soccer Source: So tell me about your organization and wha
Katie Holmes ran the 37th annual New York City Marathon on Sunday in 5 hours, 29 minutes and 58 seconds. Silly Kate, no matter how fast you run or how many boroughs you run through, they will always be waiting for you at the end. The marathon’s course took Katie through all five boroughs of the city, starting in Staten Island and finishing in Manhattan’s Central Park, where a group of friends and family members Scientologist waited with husband Tom Cruise and baby Suri to cheer her on.
I am always astonished when people not only take Joe Biden seriously, but think he is a plausible President. How many times has this guy put his foot in his mouth and said something outrageous? Remember when he plagiarized a speech written by a British politician? Remember when he said "You cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent"? Remember when called...

Welcome to our preview week of the ING NYC Marathon! Now in it's 38th year, this event is jammed with a competitive men's and women's fields, and in addition to that NYC is hosting the USA Men's 2008 Olympic Marathon Trials the day before mass race. With $600,000 in total prize money, both winners from last year returning to defend their titles, and Paula Radcliffe making her return to the marathon, NYC looks to be a race not to miss. Let's start with the men's elite field: The Men's Race - Lel vs. Rop vs. any new contenders? With 15 challengers toeing the line to take on last year's surprise champion Marilson Gomes dos Santos, the men's field is deep and a mix of experience and new legs. On the experienced side we have Rodgers Rop, Hendrick Ramaala, Martin Lel, William Kipsang, Stephem Kiogora, and Olympic Champ Stefano Baldini. The other half of the elite field is less seasoned, but still very good and can threaten the favourites:Dmytro Baranovsky (UKR) (2nd in Fukuoka l
America's largest city and one of the world's true great bastions of culture, style, and commerce, New York City also ranks among the great gay destinations on the planet. Historians have chronicled a vibrant, discernible gay scene here - largely in the borough of Manhattan - as far back as the 1890s, and Manhattan remains the epicenter of NYC gay life. There's a growing gay community in the Outer Boroughs, however, with Brooklyn and its Park Slope and Cobble Hill neighborhoods leading the way. Most visitors, however, focus their efforts on Manhattan and its world-class shopping, theater, dining, and nightlife. The Seasons:New York City's popularity is year-round, although summer tends to draw the greatest numbers of tourists from afar (particularly Europe), despite the often sultry, humid weather. Fall and springs are beautiful times to visit, with plenty of cool and crisp sunny or partly cloudy days. Winter can be windy and chilly, with occasional snow storms, but it's also a tim
Wartime New York City, was, however, to be a far more carefree place than London or Paris, as commentators from areas closer to the war effort neglected no opportunity to show. To be sure, there was for a time a dim-out, ordered not so much through fear of bombs as because the glow of the city's lights silhouetted shipping for enemy U-boats lurking out at sea. In this halfway measure, the streets were still lighted, a British visitor of 1942 reported; but the "glaring advertisements" which formerly kept Broadway "in perpetual light" were now extinguished, and "all windows above the 10th floor . . . screened." New Yorkers gained some sense of participation in the struggle as air-raid precautions, inaugurated six months before Pearl Harbor, were "practiced and more or less perfected," sirens were tested, and wardens and plane spotters began to stand watch on tall buildings and rural hilltops. Women took over tasks formerly performed by men--driving cabs, operating elevators, and serving
The Plaza Hotel in downtown New York City is one of the icons of the city, located at the intersection of Central Park and Fifth Avenue. For many visitors to Manhattan and New York, stars and regular people alike, nothing has been as representative as staying at the Plaza when in town. Now, part of the famous 100-year old hotel is being turned into condominiums for those who actually want to own a piece of the legendary building. Some famous guests of the hotel include Duke Ellington, Stevie Wonder, Marlene Dietrich and Earnest Hemingway. When touring, The Beatles took a whole wing in 1964.

Injury, either physical or mental, takes time to get recovered. There are copious treatments to heal one's physical injury but nothing to take someone out of mental trauma. That injury that affected you physically as well as mentally can occur due to the fault of another entity. In some cases it can be nothing but a mishap but whatever the cause of injury it leaves a deep impact on injured party. Not only the injured person but his or her family members also suffer from the metal disturbance. In a situation where the injury is just an accident and no one is responsible for it should be accepted as destined disaster. If another party is also involved in the accident as guilty person then the victim must go a personal injury lawyer. Any intelligent observer can easily discern that the “new” anti-semitism today has little connection with discrimination against Jews. Anti-semitism nowadays is mostly about deplorable discrimination and racist attacks against Arabs. Right now in New York, the Likudnik thought police are trying their darndest to designate Arabic words like intifada and madrassa (which simply means ’school’ in Arabic, regardless of religious affiliation) treasonous. Madrassa does not mean ‘religious‘ school. We see this playing out in the trumped-up brouhaha about the Kahlil Gibran International Academy, wherein Debbie Almontaser, the head, was branded a terrorist for not apologising enough (for the Likud-Zionists’s liking) about the word ‘intifada’ (which simply means ’shaking off’) on a T-Shirt–worn by someone else! The racist bullying and defamation resulted in Almontaser resigning. This reflects poorly on NYC, which has a rich history of cosmopolitanism, the same American tr
York is a marvellous historical city. At all four gateways, you can climb your way up and walk over the city wall. Although it is the most complete city wall of the UK, you’ll have to step down sometimes because the wall is not completely intact anymore. However, this can hardly be a problem. When you’ve to get off at Lendal Bridge (one of the three main stretches), you can visit the Museum Gardens with its museum, the St Mary’s Abbey Ruins, the famous Multangular Tower and the nearly adjoining City Art Gallery. To the south, nearby Tower street, climb the stairs to the Clifford’s Tower and visit the Castle Museum. The latter is only one of the many museums in York. A must is, of course, a visit to the York Minster, the largest medieval cathedral in Northern Europe, surrounded by Dean’s Park, Stone Gate and St William’s College. York is an excellent city to explore on foot and you can easily find you’re way around. Besides that, the city tourist office offers several bus

This story was in the New York Times earlier this week:Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg announced yesterday that the city’s Department of Education will require all schools to maintain arts programs, and that principals will be rated in their annual reviews on how well they run those programs. The announcement came just months after the department infuriated arts groups by eliminating a multimillion-dollar program to finance arts education. Under a new set of city standards, the arts curriculums will be judged for comprehensiveness, and potential pay bonuses for principals could be affected.“An excellent arts education is essential,” the mayor said at a news conference at Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan.Last winter, the city schools chancellor, Joel I. Klein, told several arts advocates that the department was planning to give principals discretion over $67.5 million that had previously been budgeted specifically for Project Arts, which financed arts education. The project, d
The Ad Libs were an early-'60s vocal group from New Jersey whose female lead vocals and male-voiced backing prefigured the jazzy doo wop singing style of several later groups, including Manhattan Transfer. They scored a major hit in early 1965 with "The Boy From New York City," written by John T. Taylor, a saxophone player who had worked with various big band groups as far back as the '30s.By the early '60s, John T. Taylor had quit playing music and had turned his attention to teaching. During this time, he heard a young Hudson County quintet who were calling themselves the Creators. The group consisted of Hugh Harris, Danny Austin, James Wright, John Alan, and Chris Coles. By mid-1963, the Creators had released their first record on the TR label without any chart success. A single for the Phillips label, "I'll Stay Home," met the same fate a year later. The group re-formed in 1964 in Newark, NJ. Dave Watt and Norman Donegan replaced departing members Wright, Alan, and Coles, and th
Throughout Westchester County and New York State and even in New York City coyotes can now be found. The Cornell University Co-Operative is doing a study of the behaviours of coyotes. Some things to know. Don't leave food, even bird seed out in the back yard it attracts coyotes.Don't leave small dogs in the back yard, a coyote was reported to have jumped over a four foot fence, grabbed a small dog, and jumped back over the fenceDon't walk at night without a long stick or perhaps an umbrella in case you are approached by a coyote.About Coyotes from the New York Times The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has recommendations about what to do if you see coyotes, who to contact and how to avoid their visiting your home.Department of Environmental Conservation

Bloomberg on NBC's "Today" show.New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg recently proposed a 5 year plan to replace all the city’s yellow cab fleet with hybrid vehicles. It is part of the mayor’s plan called “PlaNYC”, which calls for a 30 percent reduction in the city’s greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2030. “There's an awful lot of taxicabs on the streets of New York City obviously, so it makes a real big difference. These cars just sit there in traffic sometimes, belching fumes. This does a lot less; it's a lot better for all of us,” Bloomberg said on an appearance on NBC’s “Today” show. Right now there are about 13,000 taxis in New York City and about 90 percent of the those are the Ford Crown Victoria, which, gets about 10 to 15 miles per gallon in city traffic. Taxicab companies like them because they are reliable, spacious, and safe. Replacing all taxis in the city with hybrid vehicles would be like taking 32,000 privately owned vehicles off t
Thursday night was the Problogger, New York City event, sponsored by text-link-ads. I got to meet some fun people, including Problogger’s very own Darren Rowse. He tells me it’s pronounced like mouse, with an R (go figure). We talked a bit about things that didn’t have anything to do with blogging (who would have thought). I got to meet his lovely wife “V”, I still don’t know what “V” stands for… big mystery. They’re traveling with their 9 month old baby boy Xavier. Do you know what a plane ride from Australia to the states is like with a 9 month old? Darren confirmed that Melbourne is far better than Sydney as far as cultures go. I had a hunch, but now I know the real deal.
I met some other interesting people, including Elaine Vigneault and her husband Edward Miller. She has a personal blog, about hippy stuff and he is a Poker Guru and author of 3-4 poker books. Thanks for the free book Ed.

Naomi Campbell has been sentenced to clean a NYC sanitation depot for five days as part of the Community Service sentence she received for striking her maid in the head with a phone. Looks like the kind of sentence the celebs get are cleaning if you remember Boy George had to do it too. She starts cleaning on March 19 where she will scrub, sweep and mop the inside of a cold cinderblock facility I do find it funny because she is so up her own arse and this is so degrading for her I LOVE IT.
