      The yearly infestation of plague
As some of you may be aware, down here in the Southern Hemisphere it is the very beginning of winter, after a fairly mild Autumn anyway. Unfortunately that also means the inevitable influx or various versions of plague... In this case flu, which then mutates in to yet another horror. Rebalancing Your Portfolio - Give Your Assets a Yearly Checkup to Keep Yourself In Good Financial Health!
When it comes to investing, people like winners. Friends will brag about how they doubled their money in just a year on a certain hot stock. Emboldened by their success you might free up some money and pour it into the stock, hoping to cash in on the meteoric ride as well. Unfortunately, in most cases this is the worst thing you can do. Stocks do not go up forever. They are cyclical in nature, and anything that has been on a tear for a while is more than likely due for a correction. Sure if you invest in that hot stock you might see it continue to go up for a while. But, if you jump on just before a correction you might see half your money gone as other investors take profits and the once high-flier drops back down to a price level that more accurately reflects its fundamental value as a c

Day 734: The yearly trip home
When you visit England you quickly realise that the height of entertainment involves eating more turkey and stuffing than should be humanly possible and messing with your gran's dog in such a way that it makes a noise like a Taun-taun. Grey skies. Fat, miserable, chip-munching proles dragging their thwarted husbands through supermarkets. Hoody sporting Chavs wherever you turn. The only thing that's changed since you left is that Russell Brand went from relatively unknown TV presenter to revolutionary stand-up/showbiz personality who's beloved of just about everyone in Blighty. You have to say you thoroughly approve.Life suddenly revolves around "what's on TV" and other such plebian passtimes. It's a fall from the glory of the rock star lifestyle the horsemen were living in Nova's hayday.

      Yearly Traditions
Over the last 3 years I have noticed a trend of sorts emerging. Its something that I have been talking about in this blog for the last..well most of the time since its been up. That is for the last 3 years each year seems to adopt the same set of circumstances. The year begins with a promising start which for the first month works out quite well. Despite this the first semester on the whole doesn’t maintain the momentum from the first month. Along the way theres a number of bumps in the road. The start of the second semester generally tends to be the time of enlightenment. Where everything click into place. New relationships are formed, old relationships are rebuilt, every facet of life seems to be running at a flawless pace. The last month of the working year is crunch time, where everything I’ve worked for comes to a close. This time generally is when the struggle is at its greatest and it is te greatest triumph of the year. Now before or after this struggle there is a s

Top 5 Cocktail Dresses from Nordstrom’s Half Yearly Sale
The Nordstom Half Yearly Sale is on, and there’s lots of good stuff to gush over, as usual. If I have one money-saving tip as we approach the holiday season, it’s to take advantage of this event and others like it to outfit yourself for all those festive parties you’ll be attending. Here are my top 5 chic little black dress picks from the sale: If your fancy yourself a sophisticated party-goer, might I suggest the Diane von Furstenberg ‘Manca’ dress, $ 254.90 (old price= $425). The bell sleeves and that high neckline are delish when offset by a short hem. I’d pair it with some metallic shoes, opaque tights, and a flashy cocktail ring. If you’re daring, this one-shoulder “Trudie” dress $238 (old price=$598) might be your thing. I love the delicately pleated skirt and all that texture on the bodice. I would play this look straight–it’s got enough embellishment, so there’s no need to add a bunch wow-worthy access

The Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale is Here!
Nordstrom Half Yearly SaleI tend to get excited about all big sales, but there is one that inspires true elation: The Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale. I know women who stand in line to hit this sale when the doors open at 7:00 a.m. I know women who call in sick to work to go the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale. I personally have scheduled doctor appointments on the first day of the Half Yearly so that I have a legitimate reason to be out of the office... and on my way to the sale. This is easily one of the best regularly scheduled sales in all of retail. Even brand new arrivals are marked down and the discounts start at 33% off and go as high as 70% off. The best part is that there's really no such thing as "leftovers" when it comes to Nordstrom. Everything on sale is high quality and stylish. My favorite part is the sale shoes. Ahh, heaven. So many sale pair, so little time. I've seen big names marked as low as $28! It's crazy. So, what are you waiting for? Get yourself to the sale! Oh, wait

Gun Toting Liberal: Heading To The Yearly Kos, Anybody?
Some time ago I ran across a blog called “The Gun Toting liberal” and at first assumed it was just another lefty blog trying to appeal to a slightly wider class of readers. On its front page it says “Slightly left of center… but this blog is DIFFERENT!” and it really is. I have been pleasantly surprised that it doesn’t follow the standard formula of Democrat talking points. I feel much the same way about the neo-cons and fundamentalist christians. They are far right moralist radicals (as in the case of the fundamentalists) and corporate globalists (in the case of the neo-conservatives). Neither group represents my interest nor, in my opinion, the interests of the vast majority of mainstream conservatives. I see Markos Zuninga as roughly equivalent to Anne Coulter in that they both use outrageous tactics to appeal to the extreme elements of both parties. What’s interesting though are that the comments would seem to indicate that the GTL readership is more typically far left of ce

Announcing the First Weekly, Biweekly, Monthly, Bimonthly, or Yearly Birth Story Blog Carnival!
Ok, so here's the thing:Every single time I tell a labor and delivery story, I get comments and emails with tiny little teasing snippets of somebody's birth story. Have I mentioned that I LOVE BIRTH STORIES? I love them for soooo many reasons. They remind me that there is this whole, huge back story to every single one of my patients. They remind me that, unfortunately, sometimes L&D nurses can be giant cunts -- and they help me avoid that fate. They help me be a better nurse. They remind me why I chose this particular specialty -- because, really, how awesome is it to be a part of somebody's original birthday?K, anyway...I'm starting a birth story blog carnival. Right here and now. It might turn out to be weekly, biweekly, monthly, bimonthly, trimonthly, yearly, who the heck knows? But I want to post your birth stories here on my blog.My birth story is very special, you say, why should I give it to you? Well. Good question.1) First, I will only post it here -- it still

      The Half Yearly Audit
Time really flies when you’re having fun. It zooms by when you’re a baby, or so I’ve heard. One day you pop out of your mummy, then next, you’re off to university. Well, maybe not that soon. But you get my drift. My first six months has been a blur of fun-filled activities, ceaseless discoveries and endless learning. It’s been relatively easy for me. I whimper and cry and my parents or caregivers come running to me. I get what I want most of the time - milk, toys, hugs, you name it, I get it! It was exactly six months ago that I was born in a whirlwind birth. Mummy tells me we were in the delivery suite for about 20 minutes before I came out screaming and kicking. And kicking is what I’ve been doing a lot ever since. And scratching. My face. Still scarface Momo I am. I just can’t help it. When it’s time for bed, the first thing I do is scratch my head and face. That scratching head thing? Can’t do without it! So much so that Mummy h

When Puasa & Raya is treated as a yearly event…
It’s been over a week since Muslims around the world started fasting. Somehow almost everywhere, the meaning of puasa is taken lightly only towards hunger and thirst. This is not a new dilemma for us. Since a thousand years ago, Rasullullah s.a.w had already imagined his deepest concern towards his followers that they would only fast to get hungry and thirsty. This is because we take lightly on the true meaning of puasa. Even though we didn’t eat nor drink, we still do the “unhealthy” things or makruh in Malay. In fact, most of us would lost our mind and neglect all the foundation of fasting when it’s time to buka puasa. Same goes with Hari Raya, we would spend and spend even more on unnecessary items. At the same time, we would overlook our brothers and sisters alike who has been suffering in war, hunger and natural disaster throughout the world including our neighbouring countries. We let then live in such poverty and starvation as though they are n

      The Yearly Checkup
Last night we took the kiddos to their yearly checkup.  I don't even think we have been there since last year, even for a sick visit.  It is a nice doctor's office, and the kids love it because they have characters from The Little Mermaid as murals on the walls.  We talked to the doctor about MJ and her anger, that we were very concerned.  Also concerned about the fact that Mommy has Bi-Polar and Daddy suffers from depression.  So he gave us some paperwork to do, one for me, one for Hubz, and one for the teacher, so he can get a little more insight about what is going on.  I am thankful that Hubz made MJ and I go out of the room, because she doesn't need to know anything about it right now. Then Benny's turn.  He was such a good boy.  After all was said and done it was time for him to get two shots.  The nurse gave him the one and he just shouted, "OW!".  Then she gave him the shot in the other arm, and all we got was a
