In the days when convergence wasn’t even a buzz-word, offices had no other choice but to purchase dedicated equipment designed to do just one task apiece. Printers printed. Copiers copied. Fax machines faxed. And scanners scanned. The device is designed for small businesses that require printing color documents and offers a number of advanced features to make it easier to use. Xerox Phaser 6130 comes with pre-installed cartridges, so it’s ready to use right out of the box. It has the Run Black feature that keeps printing with black toner even if the color toners are over (don’t they all do or supposed to do this?). Xerox Corp. said Monday it is designing software that automatically removes confidential information from documents. When users identify a phrase or other data to be removed, the software - called "Intelligent Redaction" - automatically redacts all references to it in a document. Information on a loan application, for example, could be redacted to bar access to information by some bank employees, while top managers would be able to get at by using a code. Modern printers are much smarter than the original printing devices they were like, say, 10 years ago. Aside from just printing, they can scan, copy, send faxes, automatically connect to the Web for software updates, and so on. The only thing printer couldn’t do was translation. Not until now. Fuji Xerox Corporation developed a technology that enables laser printers and copiers to translate the text to be printed. The idea behind the technology is simple — the printer scans a sheet of text, and then connects to a dedicated server on the internet where the text is translated and sent back to printer for output. The translating algorithms on the server can distinguish between text, drawings and lines, so page layouts remain.
