Heavy Metal - 3/5 - 1981Mítica película ésta de principios de los 80, una rareza de la animación de la época y, en el fondo, de la historia de la animación por muchos motivos, además de una de las primeras películas que se dedicó a adaptar fielmente argumentos exportados del mundo del cómic.La primera peculiaridad de este film es que está formado por unos 8 fragmentos de animación diferentes, más o menos conectados (por un concepto, el orbe Loc-Nar, sacado de la saga de Den) y con tipos de animación completamente distintos, pues cada uno (digamos que 5 de ellos lo están) está basado en una historia corta diferente publicada por un autor distinto en la famosa revista Heavy Metal.... y la película tiene unos elementos que allí son habituales: mundos fantásticos, atractivas

This blogging thing still has perks. Today in the mail came my reviewer's copy of L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of Future Vol 23, the anthology of the annual Writers of the Future Awards. The authors inside are all new and unless the contest's high standards have inexplicably gone south, which I don't anticipate, all really good.This yearly anthology is a significant text in the sff field, and the authors inside it often go on to successful careers. Each volume also contains an essay on writing by an already famous author. It's worth looking at for anyone interested in writing or interested in sf and fantasy in general.I'm obligated to review this, having a reviewer's copy and all, so I'm afraid other projects promised on this blog are briefly delayed. Briefly. I mean, how long can it take me to read a short story collection?Oh, and Snuffles, get over here and write that post you promised!

An interesting perspective on the clash of civilizations. But does anyone listen?I remember living in NYC and seeing this in every subway car. It really does incite fear of your fellow man, which is the true aim of terrorism. We might as well concede defeat.I stumbled upon this today and couldn't help but find it amusing. Click on the image and read the article--it only gets better.Yes, I am a Harry Potter fan. Tomorrow Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is released and I'm excited to see if they can manage to create the same dark mood as in the book. Reviews have it that it is the most disturbing yet in the series. After having read the entire series I still prefer Order of the Phoenix over all of the others mainly because of the rebellion that begins. If only real life was this interesting.
