      Wyoming Traffic Jam
Ah, the joy of getting out of the big city, smog, traffic lights, full parking lots and of course bumper to bumper traffic jams. I loved trading San Francisco and Northern California for the big Sky of Montana and Wyoming. But alas, with the new territory come new challenges.  Above is one of two “traffic jams” [...]

Obama Captures Wyoming Leading Clinton 1,578 to 1,468 [Digg]
Sen. Barack Obama captured the Wyoming Democratic caucuses Saturday, seizing a bit of momentum in the close, hard-fought race with rival Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton for the party's presidential nomination...In the overall race for the nomination, Obama led 1,578-1,468,...It will take 2,025 delegates to win the Democratic nomination.

      Obama Wins Wyoming
With 96% of the Wyoming precincts reporting, Barack Obama has 59% to Hillary Clinton's 40%.This is an important win for the Obama campaign even though only 12 delegates were at stake. The Clintons...all of them, have spent the last few days campaigning heavily in Wyoming, hoping to secure an upset victory which would boost her momentum after her narrow wins in Ohio and Texas.

      Obama to win Wyoming
No checkmarks or calls at this point... but with 78% reporting Obama has a relatively comfortable 19 point lead in the Wyoming Caucus. According to the math it would appear that Obama will win 7 of the 12 pledged delegates for a net gain of 2. Not that this makes up for losing 3 of 4 on Tuesday... but it certainly is a start to quieting the "Hillary now has all the momentum" rhetoric. If she had really found that magic formula, one might think it would have also worked in Wyoming. Next is Mississippi, where Obama is currently leading by fairly significant margins and is looking to extend his pledged delegate lead by something the 5-7 range.

      Janice of Wyoming
I got to spend some time with my brother Stuart and his wife Sharon on Saturday. It was great to catch up and very civilised as well since we met at Sal's in Salamanca and had a very nice lunch and a few beers whilst our children did their thing at the market. Aren't mobile phones a wonderful thing! Mel came around for tea that night and we tried to cook spinach and ricotta ravioli from scratch (as in we made the pasta as well) but it was a bloody disaster!  I just couldn't get the pasta right and I didn't have some stuff so we ended up eating sometime after 9pm. At least the wine that Mel bought was good. It was a Spring Vale Pinot Gris from the Freycinet area on Tasmania's East Coast and it was most yummy. Are you wondering who Janice is? My desk at work is on the 7th floor over looking the Derwent River. The view is awesome and this morning the most amazing yacht I have ever seen in Hobart came up the river. It's called Janice of Wyoming and was made in

      Wyoming Cuts In Line
Up until now, there seems to have been a tacit agreement on the part of most of the states that, in the jockeying for position to have an early Presidential primary, Iowa and New Hampshire would be left alone at the very head of the pack.Wyoming Republicans changed that today, moving their primary to January 5, 2008. In so doing, they're picking the same fight with the Republican National Committee that Florida Democrats are in right now with the Democratic National Committee -- some or all of the delegates selected in that primary may be disqualified at the nominating convention. Wyoming Republicans, unlike Florida Democrats, have good reason not to care. The primary was going to result in 12 delegates being selected; Wyoming's other 16 delegates would still be selected at the state party convention at the end of May, and their credentials would likely not be challenged. So, this would mean the loss of 6 out of a total of 2,517 delegates -- Wyoming's overall influence in the se

Wyoming real estate is also appreciating at a nice pace.WyomingWyoming is the least populated state in the United States, but also one of the most beautiful if getting back to nature is your thing. While the cattle industry dominates the state, you also find bears, moose and a variety of large beasts roaming freely in the state. This is particularly true in the two major national parks located in Wyoming, Yellowstone and Grand Teton.Jackson HoleLocated in the foothills of Grand Teton lies the valley of Jackson Hole and the town of Jackson. The town has a suedo Wild West feel to it, but is heavily populated with the nuevo rich. Historic facades front trendy boutiques, but the area somehow manages to maintain a local feel.If you're an avid skier, Jackson just may be the place for you. WYOMING PRONGHORN HEAD SOUTH TO HELP MEXICAN PRONGHORN POPULATIONS
WYOMING PRONGHORN HEAD SOUTH TO HELP MEXICAN PRONGHORN POPULATIONS 6/22/2007 CHEYENNE – American pronghorn fawns captured near Cheyenne in June are headed to Zacatecas, Mexico as part of a recovery effort to bolster populations of Sonoran and peninsular pronghorn in Mexico. Biologists and volunteers from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, F.E. Warren Air Force Base and Mexico spent two weeks capturing 159 pronghorn fawns on F.E. Warren and surrounding property. The first group of fawns were flown to Mexico on June 16, with the remaining fawns scheduled to leave sometime the weekend of June 23. “Wyoming is lucky to have a wealth of pronghorn,” says Jon Stephens, the Game and Fish Warden who organized the capture effort. “The pronghorns indigenous to Mexico haven’t fared so well, and Mexican biologists were looking for a way to help stabilize their pronghorn populations.” Some scientists believe there to be five subspecies of pronghorn, including the Sonoran

White Crow in the heart of Wyoming
More poetry from White Crow as he emerges from the lonely Wyoming plains to find some Wyoming hospitality and companionship. Good things move away fast; fantastic things are a breath, a gust of wind we try to hold in our mouths, minds determined to never breathe again for fear of the loss of it…and then it is gone. The breath is exhaled and for lack of anything else to do, we sigh. Eventually, if we are lucky, and if we are easy in this life, we smile, turn, adjust our hats, and step toward the next breath, hoping.

      White Crow nears Wyoming
From Vernal, Utah, White Crow can be relied on to express the mood of a place in a few words: Wyoming. It is a crazy loop of string in my mind that is trying to connect all of the miles that have brought me over our America and through so many lives that I have no thought of forgetting. […] If there have been lonely miles before now, this is the same flavor of land. A mouse found its way into my pack last night. I talked to it.

The Burning Bush: Reflections from Wyoming Youth Retreat
These are the thoughts that distracted me while people were giving their testimonies on Saturday. I pass them on so they can distract you, too.Note that the burning bush has seven tiers with the Eucharist in the monstrance on top. If I recall correctly, a sevenfold mountain in ancient Mesopotamia was a symbol of deity. On river plains over there, they didn't have a lot of mountains, so they sometimes built their own--ziggurats, holy mountains sacred to various deities. If my memory isn't faulty, the ancient historian Herodotus described the famous ziggurat in Babylon, Entemenanki, "the Temple at the Base of the Universe," as having seven tiers, each painted a different color. Some believe Entemenanki may have been the inspiration for the Tower of Babel described in Genesis. The Tower of Babel, of course, is the ultimate representation of man's attempt to reach Heaven on his own terms rather than on God's.One of the speakers mentioned this weekend that Pope John Paul II referred to C

      Wyoming Youth Retreat 2007
Oh, man. Traffic's hit the floor. I guess that's what I get for not posting for a couple of days. But I'm back. Wyoming Youth Retreat (formerly Youth 2000, and don't ask me why it's changed) was a blast. This was my second year attending, but last year I was a catechumen. Unable to go to confession or take communion, I was actually kind of surly by the time the retreat was over. But this year, I'm on a high. The retreat lasted from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon and consisted of daily Mass, daily rosary, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, lots of prayer, and a number of excellent talks from excellent speakers. A Franciscan Friar of the Renewal gave a number of talks and also processed the Sacrament on Saturday night. That priest is a wonderful man, full of wit and wisdom; he could have been a stand-up comedian if he hadn't become a friar and priest. Another priest, originally from France and now, I think, from Illinois, also gave some excellent and very challenging t

      A Wyoming view of 'FALL'
By D. Reed EckhardtEditor, Cheyenne (Wyo.) Tribune-EagleDecember 6, 2006~~~~~~~~~~~~I'm not a big fan of true-crime stories.More often than not, they simply repeat the details of a crime, cover the ensuing trial of those arrested and provide the current status of everyone involved. That doesn't do it for me; I like a little more suspense in my reading. But let me recommend one of these books to you anyway: "Fall: The Rape and Murder of Innocence in a Small Town.""Fall" is the story of crimes that occurred in Casper in 1973, when 12- and 18-year-old half-sisters were tossed from the Fremont Canyon Bridge by a couple of good-for-nothings.Amy Burridge, 12, died immediately. Becky Thomson, 18, who was raped by both men, survived and dragged her broken body 300 feet up the canyon wall. She eventually saw both men sentenced to death. Their punishment was changed to life, thanks to legal technicalities. One of the men, Ronald Kennedy, still resides in the state prison.Ms. Thomson never fully
