Mischa Barton, who was arrested in December for driving under the influence, pot possession, and driving without a license, will plead no contest to the DUI charge. As result of her plea she will be on probation for three years, and pay a fine of $1,700 (Are they kidding, that's what she drops on a purse). She is also required to participate in an alcohol education class (Ah-bullshit-choo). She will serve no jail time (for endangering the lives of others), her pot possession charge will be dropped (only in Cali), and the charge of driving without a license will be reduced. Damn, who was her lawyer, she barely got a tap on the wrist. What she got was more of a massage, and a nose nuzzle on the wrist.SourceAre you a publicty stunter? Subscribe here

Reported By Stephen RhodesLos Angeles Dodgers third baseman Nomar Garciaparra's wrist is steadily improving, yet according to the Associated Press, it is uncertain when he will return to the team's lineup. Garciaparra was hit on the right wrist by a pitch Friday during a game against the St. Louis Cardinals; The X-rays were negative, although his wrist is bruised and swollen.Garciaparra on Tuesday hit in the batting cages with his wrist wrapped; as a result of this injury, Garciaparra has been scratched from the Dodgers' trip to China as exhibition games against the San Diego Padres were scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Beijing, China.

I am knitting arm warmers/fingerless gloves/wrist sweaters/multi-holed appendage tubes this weekend. They have the look of utility while not being truly necessary in a world in which both sweaters and gloves exist. They make the muscles in my hands ache when I knit them. But look! I am ever so toasty while wearing them. And they have the power to make me automatically cool. If my knitting fixation continues, you may see ones much like these in an Etsy shop near you in the near future. I love it. I have it for 2 weeks, did more than 12 workouts (even used it in my car to measure distances - for 80miles driving the difference between the car's odometer and the forerunner was less than a half mile.

What is the Lightglove? The Lightglove is a new human interface device that you wear on the underside of your wrist. Light from the device (visual or infrared) scans the palm and senses wrist, hand and finger motion. This data is translated into either on-screen cursor control or key closures and in addition works as a long distance on/off switch for virtually all electronics. Wireless operation offers cordless freedom thereby reducing the occurrence of repetitive stress aliments such as carpal tunnel. It fits like a glove made of light. What does it look like? Prototypes are a sleek design that has been optimized for comfort. Future models will be a large watch size that will easily tuck under the sleeve and be comfortably worn all day. Since Li
Don't you just hate it when you're barreling down a slope, reach inside your jacket for your digital camera and get tossed on your ass before you even get the shot framed?
The problem: Technology and nature aren't exactly best friends. In fact, expensive electronics and outdoor watersports are a lethal combination often ending in disaster.
The solution: GoPro, a little company with a big idea, has rendered these Kodak moments attainable with its tiny, technological titan called the Digital Hero Camera. Encased in an airtight plastic housing, this matchbook-sized camera straps to your wrist (or handlebars or kayak paddle) to capture thrills and spills as they happen.
Make no mistake, The Digital Hero Camera is not for professionals. On the other hand, for amateurs looking to take some fun shots while in the field, in the water, or on the slopes; The Digital Hero Camera rules.

Awesome device for marathon runners This is a great device. I was shocked by how well it works and all it can do. I no longer have to run on pre-planned routes to keep track of my mileage. I don't have to worry about pace or distance in races that don't have mile markers. All this information is on the watchface and can be uploaded to my computer and permanently stored at the touch of a button. It also keeps track of calories burned and shows your routes in gps format on the computer. It is extremely user-friendly. The only drawback is the size. I have a small wrist and it is kind of heavy. Definitely worth its weight though. I'm sure Garmin is working on this aspect for future models. If there is a distance runner on your X-mas list--this is the ultimate gift. The Mitchell Report on Steroid use in Baseball came out today and named names.Big Deal. This report means nothing to me because:1. They have made it clear that there will be no punishment for the people named in this report. So essentially, it is toothless.2. The report does not address amphetamine use, which is 10X worse and widespread in baseball than steroids3. It mentions that most of the players have moved onto to HGH, which cannot be detected in standard urine testsIf Selig wanted to make a statement he would have:1. Included punishment for current/past/future players that would have included a lifetime suspension/records deleted from the book/banishment from the HOF2. Named names for the amphetamine use, turned over to the DEA3. Announced research into new tests that can detect HGH (Like this: http://www.cnn.com/2004/SPORT/08/12/pound.hgh/index.html)The players named in the report may lose in the court of public opinion, but that's about it. Just when you thought Garmin had cornered the market on powerful, affordable, and effective wrist-mounted GPS devices, here comes the Forerunner 205. The release of this device is a major achievement from a design and technology perspective. This isn't just marketing-speak; the Forerunner 205 is the most accurate, most reliable wrist-mounted performance and GPS tracking tool we've ever tested. Yes, it's that good. While no device this compact can do everything (yet), the 205 pushes the boundaries of what is possible from something strapped around your wrist. While the 205 doesn't offer heart rate monitoring, or connectivity with Garmin's wireless speed and cadence sensor -- for that, you'll need to step up to the Forerunner 305 -- but it's a great way to get basic GPS location and performance data.
As the St. Petersburg Times reported in this story this morning, Florida Metropolitan University and the state Attorney General's Office have reached a settlement agreement, and it touches on an issue some FMU students have been complaining about for years. But does the agreement give more weight to their claims about deceptive practices, or deflate them? Read the settlement here and decide for yourself. For some background, read this Wall Street Journal story here.
If there are any current or former FMU students out there in the wide, wide world of Gradebook fanatics, what do you think: Is there a problem with credit transfer? Is there a problem with full disclosure? And what do you think of FMU's decision yesterday to change its name to Everest University? Does it have anything to do with all the legal wrangling?
Whilst we’ve never ones to shy away from posting about rather gaudy watches we also like to draw attention to beautifully understated wrist watches that offer something differing from the established norm or that, in some way, offer a thought provoking stimulus concerning the passing of time – and this watch, known as the More Or Less, does just that.
Just like the idea of looking at a half filled glass as being either half empty, or half full, this watch, designed by Crispin Jones, can be read in one of two ways – thanks to the words ‘one more’ and ‘one less’ appearing, animated around the circumference of the watch’s face.
Must be feeling optimistic
(time and date duly noted)
Truly a wrist watch that will serve to distinguish the optimists from the pessimists, the More Or Less Watch, which is powered by a single quartz mechanism, comes with a stainless steel case and a navy blue leather strap accentuated by white stitching.
The question is: Do you live in the past,

The Primitive Wrist of Homo floresiensis and Its Implications for Hominin Evolution
Matthew W. Tocheri, Caley M. Orr, Susan G. Larson, Thomas Sutikna, Jatmiko, E. Wahyu Saptomo, Rokus Awe Due, Tony Djubiantono, Michael J. Morwood, William L. Jungers
Whether the Late Pleistocene hominin fossils from Flores, Indonesia, represent a new species, Homo floresiensis, or pathological modern humans has been debated. Analysis of three wrist bones from the holotype specimen (LB1) shows that it retains wrist morphology that is primitive for the African ape-human clade. In contrast, Neandertals and modern humans share derived wrist morphology that forms during embryogenesis, which diminishes the probability that pathology could result in the normal primitive state. This evidence indicates that LB1 is not a modern human with an undiagnose
21 September 2007 (ABC News in Science) - The proof is all in the wrist! Dr Matthew Tocheri, the lead researcher in the Hobbit wrist study explains why the wrist is the most compelling proof that our Flores hobbit is really a new species. But will this be the last we hear of the issue? I doubt it.
Hobbit evidence will silence critics, scientist says
David Mark
Scientists say they have proof the so-called ‘hobbit’ from the Indonesian island of Flores is a new species, adding that the evidentiary smoking gun is all in the wrist.
The Smithsonian Institution’s Dr Matthew Tocheri, based in Washington, is the lead author of the paper published in the journal Science.

21 September 2007 (ABC News in Science) - Here’s a news piece about the wrist study which sums up the news quite nicely in layman terms. There’s also a dissenting opinion about the study that’s also food for thought.
Wrist gives hobbit theory the flick
Anna Salleh
The hobbit had wrists more like those of non-human apes than those of modern humans, according to researchers who say their findings are more evidence that Homo floresiensis is a new species.

20 September 2007 (Smithsonian Institution) - A new study on the wrist bones recovered from the homo floresiensis assembly adds extra weight to our Hobbit from Flores being an entirely new species rather than a sick, deformed human. There are a few other stories popping up today so stay tuned for more insights! It’s a really busy day at work, so hopefully I can post them all up by the end of the day.

New Research Sheds Light on “Hobbit” Smithsonian-led Study Published in Science
An international team of researchers led by the Smithsonian Institution has completed a new study on Homo floresiensis, commonly referred to as the “hobbit,” a 3-foot-tall, 18,000-year-old hominin skeleton, discovered four years ago on the Indonesian island of Flores. This study offers one of the most striking confirmations of the original interpretation of the hobbit as an island remnant of one of the oldest human migrati

For some strange reason the moment we set our eyes on this Project Reveal Black Wrist Watch we found ourselves thinking about the F117A and B2 Spirit stealth aircraft as the watch seems to convey a somewhat secretive ambiance – perhaps simply for rather base reasons such as it being almost totally black or because the numbers remain hidden behind a mesh when not applicable to the current time, though there’s something more to it than that.
Designed by Daniel Will-Harris – to whom MOMA referred as being ‘a computer graphics pioneer’, and with good reason as he acted to define computer typography as we know it – the Project Reveal Black Wrist Watch is of all stainless steel construction finished in matt black, lending it somewhat menacing overtones.

We've had the calculator watch, the MP3 watch and Fossil's ill-fated PDA watch. We've had the watch that turns into a TV remote, heck we've even had the watch that has its own built-in TV. But never have we had the ultimate in James Bond style accessories: the mobile phone watch. This is a real James Bond or Dick Tracy kind of gadget – a full blown mobile phone that looks like a mild mannered wrist watch. The company behind the design, SMS Technology Australia, says it’s the smallest mobile phone in the world. The water-resistant M500 mobile phone wrist watch works on GSM Quadband frequencies – so if you've got a GSM SIM card you could use the phone/watch in any country. Somehow it even manages full text messaging support, perhaps not surprising from a company that calls itself SMS. And there's no need to double it up with an MP3 wrist hugger because the M300 also has a built-in music player and a passable 64MB of memory. Weighing in at a spy-like 60g, the M500 feature

Regular readers will know that we here at TFTS Towers have a particular soft spot for minimalist, designer wrist watches and whilst this watch, known as the Eye Test designed by EleeNo cannot claim to be the most minimal we have ever featured – that accolade has been firmly secured by this particular watch – and is not quite as appealing as Issey Miyake’s jaw droppingly gorgeous OVO watch there’s no doubt that the Eye Test watch is both striking, decidedly modern and supremely stylish.
The design of the Eye Test wrist watch is apparently based on the eye test you are required to take as part of your driving test in Japan and, whist it appears decidedly abstract its actually remarkably easy to read – with the outer, floating dot representing the hour and the inner centre ring representing the hour.
The minimalist Eye Test wrist watch is water resistant, comes with a double locking clasp and a PU rubber strap and is due to be released exclusively via the one and only Tokyo Fl
Hi guys, I might be a bit late in posting this, and maybe some of you must have already read about this cool-looking watch on other famous blogs like engadget or gizmodo. But for those of you who are not so geeky as the others (lucky for me, or you wouldn't be reading my post here), I am talking about the Brando MP4 wrist watch, which is not just a digital watch, but also an MP4 player.Yup, it supports videos for both MPEG and Windows Media formats. You can use it to record and listen audio, play video clips and store files. From what I have found, the quality of the MPEG4 recordings is very high, an hour takes about 60 megabytes of storage. It also boasts an FM tuner, voice recorder, photo viewer, "eBook reader," a 1.8-inch 160 x 128 resolution display, five preset equalizer modes, USB 2.0 connectivity, and yes, even a built-in speaker if you're not down with headphones. We’ve featured multi Media watches here on TFTS before now but none have offered quite the level of cross functionality boasted by this PMP Multi Media Wrist Watch which will not only play MP4 video files, but also serves as an MP3 player, a digital photo album, a voice recorder, an E-Book reader and, of course, it also tells the time.
What also makes this particular PMP more appealing than most is that it’s not especially ungainly in either design or proportions with the watches size being defined more by the size of the inbuilt 1.8 inch LCD TFT screen rather than by the circuitry contained within – and it also looks great, with clear, vibrant menu systems on top of the sleek design. That said, whilst it’s nice to have E-Book compatibility included in this watches plethora of functions we cannot imagine reading E-Books on a 1.8 TFT screen to prove to be an especially practical affair.
Here’s a run down of the device’s many features and specifications.

And I thought the M500 was fly, but as you can see the Cect is killin’ that joint. The prototype supports GSM and has a fairly large LCD screen with 3 buttons at each side. Simaliar to other Mobile Watches the Cect allows phone calls through wireless bluetooth but unlike many other watches, Bluetooth isn’t the only option on this model, as the Cecet includes a microphone and speaker already built in which i’m sure will come in handy.

Colbert removed a large "No. 1" foam hand to unmask a small cast on air. "I didn't want to draw attention to it. I didn't want to play on your sympathy," Colbert said before dramatically grimacing.

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Duke guard DeMarcus Nelson will be sidelined for at least six weeks after undergoing surgery Tuesday to repair a broken bone in his left wrist. The surgery, performed at Duke University Medical Center, repaired a scaphoid fracture suffered during last week’s Pan American Games Trials in Haverford, Pa. “We look forward to having him back at 100% for the season,” coach Mike Krzyzewski said. Nelson, who will be a senior next year, led the Blue Devils by averaging 14 points more…
This unique concept was created by Australian scientists, it a remote that sits by your TV and tracks and correlates hand gestures as commands to operate your television, and up to 6 other devices. A recent prototype is said to work in all lighting situations (a huge accomplishment as anyone who has used an EyeToy would know), and software claims to tell the intentional gestures from the real ones.
This product is almost perfect… The one feature/setting that their missing is the one finger salute, as a means to turn off the TV of course. Look for the device being marketed in about three years…

LONDON (AP) — Jean van de Velde will miss the British Open’s return to Carnoustie, where he squandered a three-shot lead on the last hole.
The French player, who eventually lost a three-man playoff to Paul Lawrie at Carnoustie in 1999, has suffered from a virus for more than three months.
Because of his low ranking, Van de Velde would need to play next week’s Scottish Open at Loch Lomond and earn the only qualifying spot for the July 19-22 British Open. But his agent, Jamie Cunningham, more…

Some things are just so bizarre that we are unable to pass them by without offering a quick post about them and that???s certainly the case with respect to this curious computer keyboard wrist rest designed to resemble a baguette (what will they think of next?).
Quite why anyone would want to rest their wrists on a baguette is open to speculation but if you have a bread fetish (not something I???ve ever suffered from, personally) and you???re concerned about succumbing to repetitive strain injuries (RSI) then this is undoubtedly something to get very excited about.
The curious Baguette Computer Keyboard Wrist Rest retails for 9000 Korean Won (roughly $9 / ???7 / ??4), though we think we???ll hold out till a Wholegrain version becomes available.

Ever so often we come across a gadget that sets our pulses racing and this is one of those occasions. And, when something looks this beautiful, who can blame us for sitting back and letting the imagery do most of the talking?
If you’re in the market for a new wrist watch that is distinctive enough to turn heads without being overstated and is modern without being decidedly brash, then the gorgeous Issey Miyake OVO watch, designed by Shunji Yamanaka, should fit the bill rather nicely.
The battery operated Issey Miyake OVO (which apparently translates as ‘egg’ in Portuguese) offers 100 meter waterproofing, comes in either highly polished stainless steel with green face or in rather sinister black with black face and retails from this Japanese online store for ¥37800 – approximately £156 / $310 excluding shipping.
We’re in love.

FT. WALTON BEACH, FLA. A Ft. Walton Beach man recently licensed an invention he created seven years ago to a national health products brand.Robert Huffman, 60, currently working in Afghanistan for Kellogg, Brown and Root, created the 360° Hot & Cold Therapy Wrist Brace to deal with the pains he experiences in his own wrists as a plumber." I wanted something to take care of [the pain] and help other people, " Huffman explained, noting that nothing on the market currently helped. The brace is part of a line released through Health Enterprises' Acu-Life brand. It uses a patented hot/cold gel encased in a brace system, designed to ease sprain and strain recovery while allowing for mobility. It also uses a removable splint. The product was recently private-labeled to a national pharmacy retailer.Seven years ago Robert Huffman hired Pittsburgh's Davison Design and Development to develop, design and prepare his concept for manufacturing; however, it would be some time before it would be lic
The good news, is that it's not a fracture. The official word seems to be that Andy Murray suffered tendon damage during his match with Volandri at the Hamburg Masters Series on Tuesday. It will probably require a pot while it heals which means, unfortunately, that it will be while before Murray can even return to the practice court. There is virtually no chance that Murray will recover before the French Open (27 May), so the real race will be ensure a return to fitness before Wimbledon (25 June). With only just over a month to go, it's going to be an anxious wait for Murray and his fans. The decision to play at Wimbledon probably won't be made until nearer the time and, as much as Murray will be desperate to play - especially with some serious ranking points to defend - the risk of long term damage to the wrist will have to be foremost in his mind.As things stand I could cope with Andy missing the French Open and Wimbledon if it means securing long-term fitness.
