These two fun and useful bento boxes have been on my front table for a week now – just waiting for me to get around to wrapping them up and sending them out. Late Ptolemaic Period, ca. 167-30 B.C. Human remains, linen, cartonnage, paint, gilt. Funded by John A. Manget, 1921.6 In order to enter the afterlife, it was important that the deceased have a proper burial with all the correct rituals and traditional funerary equipment. First, the body had to be preserved through mummification, a process by which it was artificially dehydrated and then wrapped in linen bandages. The invention of mummification may have resulted from the practice of burying bodies directly in the ground during the Predynastic Period. The preservative properties of the hot, desiccating sand may have suggested to the Egyptians that survival of the body was necessary for continued existence in the afterlife. Later, in the Early Dynastic Period, when the body was no longer dir

Growing up, I hated asparagus. I thought it tasted weird, had an odd texture and was downright lousy. This recipe was a recent and splendid new discovery - hailed by the Technical Department as the best version of roast Pork since the classic version with a mustard-and-herb poultice that was immortalised by Julia Child, forty years ago now, in 'Mastering the Art.I was sceptical when I first looked at this one. Having long been devoted to the Barbara Kafka method of roasting (heat the oven to smelting temperature, and then blast the meat for as short a time as possible), the idea of heating the oven to only 175 degrees C seemed highly dubious. And then the fact that the meat only cooks for fifty minutes at that temperature.... Hmmm..But, it works! Even the slightly unexpected combination of Pork wrapped around Pork works well, as the Pancetta becomes beautifully crisp, while the loin wit

Vehicles wrapped with advertisements are latest trendHow do you turn your truck into a flaming piece of meat, plaster an SUV with a smiling insurance agent or transform a DART bus into a kayak? It takes clever graphic artists, several feet of colorful vinyl, some guys armed with squeegees and a business to pay for it.Vehicles have carried ads for years. But magnets on car doors or signs on the back window – well, that's so 1995.In a world cluttered with ads, companies are trying to stand out. They're turning to vehicle wraps to get their message out whenever and wherever their cars are on the road. Done right, motorists find them memorable."By wrapping your car, you can have some degree of individuality and uniqueness," said Peter Salaverry, chairman and CEO of SkinzWraps. The Deep Ellum
(Handmade Bangle Bracelets )A bracelet is defined as an ornament designed to be worn on the wrist or arm. Specifically, bangle bracelets are rigid bands that can either be hinged or solid and are some of the most popular designs in modern jewelry. Because of the significant amount of metal used in the design of a bangle, these bracelets are typically more expensive than a typical chain design. For this reason, many jewelry lovers turn toward sterling silver for the most affordable and boldest designs in bangle bracelets. In case you may be wondering why this type of sterling silver bracelet is so very popular among jewelry connoisseurs, the reasons are many. First and foremost, sterling silver is a durable metal that measures approximately 2.5 to 2.7 on the scale of hardness. (Handmade Bang

Two Years after Calling for a Redeployment of U.S. Forces from Iraq — President Bush Refuses to Provide the American People with a Responsible Exit Strategy

“All Americans want stability in the Middle East. But while our military is bogged down in Iraq, instability is spreading throughout the region. Pakist

Many people claim that deep fried turkey is the best turkey to have at Thanksgiving. I think I’ve found a turkey prep method that may beat that. Turkey wrapped in bacon!
There is nothing better than bacon. Bacon makes everything better. Wrapping your turkey in bacon would theoretically make your turkey better. Think about it- the fat from the bacon would baste the bird as it roasts. Your home would small of turkey and bacon. It would be wonderful.
As for seasoning? Forget salt and pepper, use bacon salt!
Ok. I’m joking about the bacon salt (it would make every non-bacony food better, though). If you are interested in wrapping your turkey with bacon, here is a recipe.

A lot of people don't eat pork chops anymore because they say they have little flavor and the meat is a dried out piece of shoe rubber. Part of that reason is that we struggle to use the recipes we know and loved as a child that were handed down by our mothers or grandmothers. However we can't! Why? Because pork is very different today than it was then. It's bred to be leaner, so less fat

1 large eggplant
4 8-ounce snapper fillets
1 large bunch chives
4 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
Salt
Freshly ground pepper
Slice stem end off the eggplant, and cut in half lengthwise. Using a
mandoline, slice the eggplant halves lengthwise into 1/16-inch-thick
strips. (This can also be done with a very sharp knife.) Place strips in
a colander over the sink, and sprinkle liberally with salt. (This helps to
draw moisture out of the eggplant and makes it easier to work with.)
After about 30 minutes, or when moisture starts to come out of the
eggplant, wipe the salt off of the slices with paper towels. Arrange
enough slices on a flat surface, slightly overlapping, to cover the length
of one fish fillet. Place fillet on top of sliced eggplant, and season
with salt and pepper. Wrap the ends of the eggplant slices around the
fish, and make sure that the eggplant slices remain overlapping. Flip the
wrapped fillet over, and gently press it down so that the eggplant stays
in place. Sec

I wanted to do something slightly less time-consuming tonight, and as I'd managed to find some really thinly sliced Parma Ham in my local shop, I decided to wrap it around some chicken breasts. Ideally, I wanted some fresh Mozzeralla for the stuffing, but as I was using Chorizo pieces, I figured that some of the mild Queso de Mezca might work alright as a flavour combination. Some Jamon Serano would've been better as a wrapping to keep the Spanish theme, but Palma Ham I figured was a cood second place ingredient. The Chorizo has a lot of lot of flavour, so I didn't put any thing else other than that and the cheese in the centre. Some similar recipes start it off in the pan, then transfer to the oven, but personally, I found that I've got a better chance of them staying together properly by d
It’s a blustery day, the cold Autumn wind chafing my cheeks and turning my fingers into frozen little fishsticks despite my gloves. School’s finished for the day, and arm in arm with my girlfriends, we go racing down the path from our school to a tiny little shopfront just next door. The glass door has fogged up and hides the crowds of students who’ve beaten us here, laughing and talking while munching on all manner of cheap, freshly made eats. This is fast food, Korean-style, and anybody who has spent even a year in Korea will be familiar with this scene.
South Korea is technically still an occupied country, with American military posts and G.I.s all over the place…and with them, they have brought many of their own fast food chains such as T.G.I.F.s and Bennigans selling everything from burgers to Caesar salads to Monte Christo sandwiches (I had a friend who was SO in love with Bennigans M.C. sandwiches that he would order it every single time we went there.

Not every day is Christmas. Last night, Johan Santana wasn’t nearly in his 2006 Cy Young winning form, the Indians were able to jump on him early. Over 8 innings he gave up 4 runs on 7 hits. While most guys would kill for that kind of day in and day out performance, it looked as if he was going to get the loss (which by the way would be his first since before the All-Star break).
The top of the 9th would bring three pirhanas to the plate. Those batters were Jason Tyner, Luis Castillo and Nick Punto. Before we could correct Bert Blyleven’s pronounciation of their nickname the bases were loaded. The Twins were down 2 runs. The score would eventually be tied with Justin “33 for MVP” Morneau’s 124th RBI of the season.
The top of the 10th inning was pretty unimpressive. The Twins went down in order. Then it all started to unravel. The first batter in the bottom stroked a double off of the fence in center field. Through what I would like to
